I probably wont return for any further service despite moderate satisfaction with a recent repair. I was quoted $75, I was charged $95, and I could have done the repairs myself for <$30. I needed my chain and rear derailleur replaced. 1. I specifically asked to have the rear shifting cable left in tact since it still worked fine despite its age. The mechanic replaced it and charged $3 for a new cable and an additional $3 for the labor to install it. Aside from going against a specific request, these cables take less than a minute to install and dont require any special tools, which doesnt warrant $3 in "labor." 2. I was originally given a quote of $25 for a new rear derailleur. Since the model quoted would have been back-ordered for a month, a derailleur in stock which cost $10 more ($35 total) was installed. The mechanic could have called to ask if this was OK before making that decision for me. 3. My handlebars were adjusted to a different angle, though I did not request this. I had to have them readjusted once I picked up the bike, as the brakes were entirely inaccessible from the change. Aside from these negatives, the new derailleur works splendidly, and new cable housing was installed for free. The rear brakes were also adjusted, which I had struggled with trying to adjust myself - I was happy about this change. All in all, I am glad to have my bike working again, but I think the service could have been better. I plan to repair my bicycle by myself in the future to avoid superfluous charges.

I recently stopped into West Michigan Bike and Fitness on a whim. I was only looking to see what bikes they had on the showroom floor when I discovered some year-end demo closeouts. Upon walking in I was almost instantly greeted and helped. The sales associate was knowledgeable and took the time to go over even the smallest detail or simple question. I was able to quickly demo a couple different bikes with no hassle from the sales team, and they let me take my time by having an inviting and no pressure experience. At the end of the day, I purchased a lightly used demo bike for thousands less than the newer version. It does have very minor dings and scratches, but I knew this going into the purchase. So far the bike has been a blast to ride and everything the sales associate told me was accurate. If I could I would give 4 1/2 stars. I thought the team was superb with little complaints. Its too bad they dont give discounts on parts, free service or anything else you get from some of the smaller shops when purchasing a bike. Rating a 5 star instead.

Worked with them today and yesterday to buy a 2012 Trek 2.1 with a bunch of accessories. I am pretty particular, and went back and forth on a couple of things - which they could have gotten sick of, but they helped me out regardless. Actually, I had stopped in the store earlier in the day ... talked a bunch with Kole about the bikes and left without any indication of buying one. They did not give me a hard time about that as I wanted to think about it. It was appreciated. Came back, bought the Trek ... they brought it in from the Holland store I think - and they dialed it in and threw some pedals and aerobars on it ... and I will tell you this thing is impressive. You just cant go wrong with a Trek ... and West Michigan Bike has been carrying them for a long time I do believe. They did a good job. First year full service on the bike included too - booyah! 5 stars. I remember this stuff too as I am sure many customers do ... I will be back.

I am a long-term customer of this place, but no more. I was told that my bike would be finished by today (Thursday), which is important to me since Im leaving on a trip tomorrow. This shop has had it since Monday. I called this morning just to be sure, and was told that it would not be ready due to an emergency with the mechanic. I asked if there was anyone working there who could adjust the gears, since that was my main problem. No, there was not a soul working today at this shop that knew how to adjust gears, or who would take the time to help me. There was no offer to help, no suggestion about what I might do. No offer to have one of the other WMB&F locations fix it. Nothing. Terrible customer service. So I picked up my bike and brought it somewhere else, where the very pleasant, socially graceful mechanic adjusted my gears on the spot, and charged me nothing. You can guess who will have my business in the future.

I recently purchased a Trek 1.2 Road Bike from the Kentwood location. The salesperson seemed very knowledgeable and didnt spend too long trying to get me to upgrade. I bought a 2011, so it was nicely discounted. On my first ride of the year, I hit a bad pothole and blew a tube. Since I was completely new to road cycling, I brought it back to the shop where they walked me through the tube change and general maintenance. A couple of weeks later, after receiving clipless pedals as a gift, I tried to change the pedals to no avail. I brought my bike back to the shop and they removed the old pedals, re-bored the holes, and attached the new pedals. No charge, and they told me to continue bringing it in anytime that I have an issue and it will all be free for the first year. Really great service, great prices, and I love that theyll take the time to help out a newbie like myself.

Will Not Return! I went to the Kentwood shop yesterday and the store manager -- Evert Klomp III (JJ) -- treated me like I was not welcome. As a long term customer, this was not acceptable. I asked him to help me remove a headset (a five minute job) and without responding, he handed it to another employee and walked away. JJ, if its too much of a burden to help me out for 5 minutes, you shouldnt be running a bike shop! In addition, the prices are way too high. There are very few sales or items on the clearance rack and the entire Klomp family is very stingy. The sales employees are not very knowledgeable and only care about selling people higher-end bikes than theyre looking for. Not impressed...

I recently got my second bike fit from West Michigan Bike and Fitness and they made adjustments on my bike based on the fit. It was completely different than the previous year as I had some hand issues and other adjustments. I also upgraded to a better set of rims and wheels based on their recommendations. I went for my first ride of the season last night and its like a completely different (significantly better) bike than before as its faster and less effort to ride. The hand issue has almost completely disappeared as a result of the fit. I have had the pleasure of working with Evert and the staff and they are awesome people to work with.

I just purchased my second bike (the first being a road bike) from West Michigan Bike and Fitness. The people are so nice and accomodating, taking time to explain the pros and cons of various components and their utility to various riders. My second bike was built to order with all hand selected parts. I couldnt be more pleased with my purchase and the people who informed my decisions to select various components and parts to arrive at my own personalized bike suited to my specific bicycling requirements. I will be sure to frequent their shop whenever I look to purchase cycling gear.
