Frankly, most of my experiences at Ace in Takoma Park are very good - helpful and friendly staff, totally convenient to my home (around the block) and they have always have have what you need. It costs a little more than Home Depot but I am always happy to shop local. All that came to a screeching halt yesterday when I walked around the corner to return a can of paint that they had mixed using the incorrect color formula. That said, I have had the same problem on two separate occasions when bringing in a paint chip to have them match the color for a home improvement painting job. Both times the person who mixed my paint got the color formula wrong. Both times, I returned to the store with the same paint chips and asked them to "try again." On the second time in each case, using the same paint chips, they were able to get the formula right. OK, people make mistakes, right? Well, not according to Ace in Takoma Park - they claimed this was not their fault and that I would have to pay for the second mix having already paid once to have them do it wrong. I would accept this but for the fact that THEY mixed two different formulas using the same paint chips! Eric, the manager, is as nice and friendly as they come but he would not even come to the front of the store to discuss this problem that was clearly Aces fault. Sorry, Ace, you just lost a local customer who was loyal to a fault. It was really nice to be able to walk around the corner for all of the tools, supplies and plants that I needed for the three homes that we rent out and maintain. I will now take all of my business back to Home Depot with their "no hassle" return policies and their recent (last three years) and noticeable improvement in the customer service skills and demeanor of their staff.

Im addicted to this store! And I love that they all know me and Michelle greets me by name when I come in. Their expansion has created space for new departments for organizing that are great for my work as a TaskRabbit. They might just begin to rival products in the Container Store! Also, I recently got tired of carrying bags of mulch and bought a wheelbarrow. While the store will put it together, I was hot to trot so I went into the back with one of the employees and we assembled it together. I learned a lot in the process. I was going to drive a client to Dulles and my car was embarassing with a chocolate stain on light fabric. Another employee suggested two products, one which cleaned the upholstery and rugs and the other the vinyl dash, etc. My car looks like new after about 1 hour of elbow grease. Going over to buy an immersion blender to make soup from products I had delivered from local farms via Relay Foods. I installed a new toilet cover, updated my sideyard with begonias, (Or was it the other way around :) Ive found rocket pops which I used as a marketing bling for an event, and .... ACE has everything! I gotta go get another fix! Pun intended.

Every employee I met was friendly and ready to help me with anything I might need. When I described the project I was working on, they knew exactly what I should get and where I could find it. When I go to places like Home Depot or Lowes, sometimes it seems like the staff are hiding and if you have a question you have to go and hunt them down. Thats not the case here. I can see why another reviewer said that it felt a lot like a Mom & Pop store.

Today was the first time Ive ever been inside ACE Hardware. The staff was extremely helpful, kind, and accommodating. I needed a LED bulb for my kitchen, but I left it the blown bulb at home. Luckily I took a picture of it which helped a lot. One of the staff members helped me find the right one, I would likely have given up on my own. I will definitely make an effort to patronize the store more often whenever possible.

These folks are the best! No matter what you need, no matter what your problem, there is always a staff person ready to help you. They really help you problem-solve and help you get the most for your money. Theyre nice. They are friendly. (They have a fabulous "ladies night!") They are environmentally sensitive (what do you expect in Takoma Park?!) And you get nice cloth bags for your purchases which you can reuse.

For someone who has said she doesnt do hardware stores, I find myself at ACE Hardware quite often. No sooner than I walk in someone always approaches me and asks if they can help me find something. The answer of course is always, "Yes" as I want to get in and get out. Their excellent customer service and professional staff allows you to do just that. Thanks ACE. Keep on doing what you do!

This is my all-time favorite hardware store! They always have friendly, knowledgeable staff - and plenty of them to help you find whatever you need. They treat women with respect (not always true in a hardware store!). The store is always neat, clean and well-stocked. I used to ask my husband to shop at hardware stores, but Im happy to go to Ace.

Its kindof spooky, but this store seems to stock 95% of what a large chain hardware store would stock, in about 10% of the space. My husband and I joke that the inside of the store is larger than the outside. The people are very knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly.

Very large store, with bigger selection than most Ace stores I have been to. Knowledgeable staff, decent prices, free parking lot in the back with easier access to pick up heavier items, and staff often offers to bring heavier items to your car!

Staff is really friendly and helpful. They seem to know where everything is in the store. The prices are a tad higher than other stores, but for the convenience and the local people who work there, I think it is worth it.
