This is truly an impressive coffee shop, unlike any other I have ever been to in my entire life. I was out on a run on a trip to Baltimore and saw this place had excellent reviews and was known for its amazing tomato soup. It was cold, and I was hungry for that tomato soup. I sat down and was helped by the friendliest barista who explained the menu to me and recommended the tomato soup over the butternut squash soup -- thanks, that was the correct choice. A couple of minutes later, the soup came out. It was incredible. Perfectly creamy and the "croutons," which were actually like little slices of bread with melted cheese on them, were the perfect complement to the soup. Prices are fair here and the environment is really quiet. This would honestly be a great place to sit and work for a while or to eat lunch or honestly, just hang out. I felt like I was in a movie or in England while I was here. I will be back!

Getting your food is a slow process but everyone working there is super nice, helpful and friendly! The clientele can be either snobby and stuck up at times but the employees and food definitely make it better! The coffee is good it taste like... coffee. The basil creamy-iced coffee with basil is good! I think some items on the menu changes daily. I loved the breakfast Bahn Mi and went back the next day to get it but it wasnt on the menu. The pastries are good as well, I would pick it up in the morning since they do sit out under a glass top and is more fresh in the morning. Also, I like the oatmeal...Im basic I know, but for $5 it is huge! And filling! They put blueberries and maple syrup on it. You cant go wrong! The bacon is thick cut, everything is local and fresh, the waiters are great and the chefs are bomb you cant go wrong.

Great coffee, good atmosphere, friendly staff. I knew before going that you had to sit down and wait to be served, but there are no signs indicating that this is the case which is a slight inconvenience to someone that may not be aware. That small problem aside, the coffee was great and even though I came in only an hour before close the staff was patient, friendly, and helpful. They source from counter culture coffee, and they have a kitchen with food options that sound delicious, but all I had time to grab to eat while I was there was a toast with butter and jam(which was delicious). The cafe is cute and welcoming, highly recommend stopping by on your next trip to Baltimore. It is slightly tucked away and hard to find, but with google maps you should have no problem finding it.

Nice polite staff but expensive. A small cup of coffee is $3.50 and its a very good one. If youd like a refill, you have to pay the full freight again -- thats $7:00. Keep in mind you havent left a tip or paid taxes yet either. Coffee offered in one size: small. No such thing as a medium or large. Does not carry the NYT or Washington Post or have place to maybe pick up someones old paper. Seating is generally uncomfortable. Inner area is dark with a basement feel to it. The food makes the coffee seem cheap, as in $11.00 for MAC and CHEESE. Despite the prices, Artifact is busy during lunch hours and lunch-breakfast hours on weekends. There is an off beat vibe and sense of being away from everything (thats a plus.) Thats the best part.

My favorite brew at Artifact is the Neuva Liusta. I like my coffee smooth without much acidity and I like it flavorful. I never add sugar. They get perfect score for their food menu but I was really disappointed in 2 things: 1. Milk selection: for a coffee place the milk selections are sad. They have soy cartons and thats it. The gold standard of milk selections in the DMV is Pinneaple and Pearls in DC. They make their own think milks from flavorful nuts such as hazelnuts and pistachio. 2. Customer service can only be described as depressed. I might have caught them on an off day. They were not bad. Just not special. Not memorable. Which is much better than bad but not Excellent.

I do really like this place but a bit pretentious. They only offer coffee in a small size, REALLY!? you cant get bigger cups??? Also they are over priced. The people seem disinterested in making you happy or giving good customer service, its as if they are doing you a favor by allowing you to eat there. But I will say they make one of the best cookies Ive ever eaten. They make fresh cookies every day, but in the morning they will try to push day old cookies on you at full price, when I asked for a fresh one I was denied, I still go though. Why? You may ask, because the coffee is that good.

Great food, great coffee, but a little too cool to provide quality service. The seating process is disorganized, the hostess looked like any other student doing work on a laptop and acted annoyed that I wanted a table. I recently waited 45 minutes to receive my order, and the food arrived before the coffee! Today I called twice to see if they were serving brunch and the phone rang about 15 times (each call!) without anyone ever picking up. Unfortunately, customer service doesnt match the quality of food/drinks.

Super Hip place. You dont order up front like a starbucks but sit down and someone takes your order. I also went to their biking event to support some non-profit, so they are also involved with the community! I loved my tea, the oolong one was oolong-y with hints of fruityness-- yum! Also the atmosphere and the wifi was excellent-- needed things. They do close early compared to other coffee places-- check out the hours if you plan on doing work till late!

Went for lunch. Served me a meat quiche when the menu clearly stated it was Vegetarian. I do NOT eat meat, for religious beliefs. They violated my belief system. It was appalling. Such a huge blunder. Others were saved by my speaking up as our waitress, who was wonderful, swept it off their tables before they too would have had to go through such a horrid experience. The sangria was bleh, at best. Im disappointed. I will not be venturing there again

Charming, homey atmosphere in a converted mill building. I come weekly to knit or telework and staff are always warm and service excellent. In 3 years, Ive never had a bad coffee from here. Not once. The breakfast menu is limited but the lunch and brunch options are varied and delicious. Come early on weekends or youll be waiting for a table. Bowl & Beer night, Taco Libre and other evening events keep things interesting.

I am so enchanted with this place. They made me the best sandwich of my life (the veggie bahn mi) and it was soooo interesting and complex! The atmosphere is perfect. Its a converted old mill or something and theres exposed stone. It has some true character. The ambience is perfect for working by yourself on a laptop or studying. Lots of little tables and one great big one. Great service. Im very enchanted with it.

Great atmosphere, and great staff. Its a cozy, rustic space with ample seating room/workspace if you wanted to bring your computer. You could spend a few minutes here, or several hours and be comfortable the entire time. The coffee was great too, and they have a large selection of teas. Their baked goods and sandwiches were excellent too, if slightly expensive, but the pastrami and the bundt cake were totally worth it.
