I like that this pet store has all my needs as far as rat food in bulk as I own over 12 rats and the numbers go up. I am also a rat breeder. Couple of days ago, I went in to order my bulk order, and to drop off couple of rats, I notice that the person that worked at the store take my four boys and drop them into a tank full of females. In case you didnt know, a male rat is sexually mature at 5 weeks old. These were that age. Every one of those females will be knocked up within days as female rats go into heat every 3 days. So people buying for PETS will have a surprise within 3 weeks... a bunch of babies. This is exactly WHY people have bad opinions on petstores for buying pets. Irresponsible and careless. I separate my males and females at 4 weeks old. I would NEVER buy pet store animals as pets. Especially rats. UPDATE: I took home a male rat that day to keep my bloodlines pure, and he was called Rocket. Rocket at first was friendly, sweet and seemed to be ok. But over the next 24 hours I knew something was wrong. He was sick. he lost weight, refused to eat or drink, and the antibiotics I had him on wasnt effective. he became basically non responsive when I finally took him back. They took him, and put him back in their display case with all the other rats, grabbed another male and tossed him into my carrier. I was dumbfounded and shocked. is this how they treat their animals? I dont care if a rat is a feeder, it should be treated with kindness and compassion. Dont buy pet rats from them.

I just moved into the area and visited this store for the first time. Walking in I noticed right away the monkey in the cage. I had a bad feeling about this place afterwards. A monkey should not be kept in these living conditions with no socialization let alone a pet store in general. I walked around some more and then noticed puppies, each alone in unfit cages. Each cage has only wire flooring with no bedding/soft area for the puppies to lay down. I saw some tried so hard to lay on their only toy for that was the only soft thing available in the cage. I asked the employee if they take them out of the cage and one said no. It saddens me that these animals are not socialized nor have any playtime at this young of age. The asking price is very high per pet making me think that these puppies come from a puppy mill environment. After witnessing these standards, I left this store right away. I will not be giving any of my money this terrible pet store. I would not recommend this store to anyone and I am shocked to see the poor reviews of this place years ago and they are still in business. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Im a firm believer in the "shop local" philosophy. If youre looking for anything reptile or furry, this is your place. They have a wide variety of everything from fish to spiders, bunnies to rats and everything in between. The highlight of the store is definitely Frankie the Capuchin Monkey. Its worth a visit just to see him. They also have a big selection of supplies, though some are reasonably priced while others are a little high. Thats the good stuff. On the other side of things, they sell puppies. While puppies are cute and adorable, I have a serious issue with stores selling dogs at crazy high prices. The thought of these poor little pups being locked in cages all day makes me cringe. While they appear to be well cared for, there are thousands of homeless pets in need of adoption. Social issues aside, the store is a Shawnee staple, having been open since 1976. If they stopped selling puppies Id be more than happy to give a 5 star rating because family run local businesses like this need your support.

I went into the shop thinking it would be a nice experience, but it most certainly was not. Your puppies or horribly mistreated sitting in wired cages. That hurt their paws. And a man walked in and right in front of my 1 year old daughter clipped the poor birds wings. RIGHT IN FRONT OF US. What type of pet store is this? This is most certainly not okay. Birds are made to fly. Not to have their wings clipped. And those puppies should have more room than a small cage with a metal bottom that hurts their paws. I would invest in something a little more comfortable to those poor babies. They are not just for show. They are real animals. I will never come back after my experience here. Horrible. Horrible place. Very poor treatment of your animals.

The environment is not a suitable environment for puppies. Wire cages for small pawed dogs, there paws are falling through and they act very anxiety filled and uncomfortable being locked in their tiny cages all day and all night with no human love or stimulation. Puppies need attention, they need training, & they need proper stimuli. Obviously they arent getting this because they are constantly crying, pacing, and biting on their food bowl and wired cages. Do NOT support purchasing puppy mill dogs from this place. By doing so youre just opening new spots for them to fill with more poor miserable puppies. Oh and dont get me started on the poor monkey going nuts inside a cage.

DO NOT SHOP HERE! They sell puppy mill puppies. Do not buy anything from them. You are supporting them if you shop here. Do not support places that sell puppies, kittens, any animals. Employees are posting on here how great it is bc they are asked/told to. They are on national lists of places to not shop due to buying from puppy mills. Please educate yourself about puppy mills before buying from places like this. You think youre getting a "healthy" purebred? Think again. And look at the environment they keep the animals!! If you cant bring yourself to go to a shelter, even Petco has animals for adoption now. This archaic process needs to stop. Please stop supporting it.

Bought some bunnies here that were six weeks old. We were told that was too early for bunnies to be sold but that theyre cute at that age so it happens. I called in to the store three times the day my daughter bought them to confirm what type of bunnies she bought and was told something different everytime. They also told my daughter that bunnies really do better together so she bought two. Now our vet tells us that this may actually turn out to be a bad thing as they may get aggressive and have to be split. Its not the worst but not the best either.

100% positive this store Sales puppy mills puppies. If they say all off my puppies come from local hobby breeders . They are lying to your face. This store get the puppies straight from the mills or from a puppy broker that sells to pet stores. The puppy brokers are the middle man in the deal. Puppy mills - puppy broker(middle man) -pet store puppy you see in the window. Google puppy mills and pet stores. No responsible breeder that cares about the puppies will never put their puppies in a store to make fast profit.

Very sad. This store not only has a very pungent smell, (due in part to the MONKEY that they keep in a tiny cage in the middle of their store.), but they rotate a very large selection of pure breed puppies that dont seem to be in the best of care. Small cages, and constantly on grated surfaces. No blankets, no beds... just puppy, cage and paper. There are many local animal shelters that are FULL of puppies that need homes. They only get 1 star because the employees for the most part are friendly and knowledgeable.
