im a young guy who has been using this store in the beginning as my go to for fish, filter and pretty much anything else. the owner has always been VERY ignorant and doesnt feel he needs to give anyone under age 25 the time of day. whatever... the kids always seemed alright or so i thought. they will try to sell you on ANYTHING even if it doesnt suit what your trying to do. they once told me i could use a canister filter for a reef and itd be perfectly fine then the following week i heard them ragging on the same idea when it wasnt mine and that customer was gone. they are super overpriced as well especially for such a terrible selection of coral. one of the kids was trying to tell me they dont make any LEDs beyond 1 watt. hahahahaha. i paid my final visit to this store a few weeks ago at about 15 minutes to close and the only reason i was cutting it so close was because i had to move my 57 gallon reef all day and i thought i had enough water but you know how that goes. i bought in my buckets and told them salt and he looked at me like i was insane "we close in 15 minutes i cant mix that for you, your gonna have to do it yourself" uhhhh as a customer who has spent well over 2,000$ you would think they could stay maybe 5 or 10 extra minutes to mix some salt. then another kid comes up to me and says "no dice on the salt, do it yourself" with a very bad attitude. come on, these guys know how stressful it is to move a stocked reef and they pulled this stunt. give your money to someone who really does appreciate your buisness like aquapro in glen ellyn who has the fairest prices and great customer service. steve is the only one worth talking to at tropaquatics as he is a straight up dude and wont lie to you for a sale. matt just likes to oversell, i suspect hes putting money to the side for braces...

I must agree with previous reviews, the owner (older guy, tall and wears glasses) really ruins this place. I am sure they will continue to do fine without my business but I refuse to support a place that doesnt respect their customers. I have spent a fair chunk of change at this place (over $800) and to give me and my kids a hard time about returning $8 worth of fish that died less than 2 days after we purchased them is just wrong. The $8 isnt a big deal to me but my kids save up their own money and buy their own fish. I have a reef tank and my kids have a fresh water tank, so we know how to acclimate fish, and I test my water once a week for ammonia, nitrates and nitrites etc... For him to treat my kids (who were timid enough to ask for replacement fish) the way he did and tell them fish were "for responsible adults" and "they need to learn how to care for fish properly" was just mean. When I stepped in he actually told me I wasnt the one who bought the fish so he wouldnt talk to me (it is harder to bully an adult than kids who are 6 and 9)

I would give more than 5 stars if possible. I have been going here to get DI water for my fresh water tank and they have always been quick and affordable. I have never been mistreated. They are direct and to the point. I recently decided to set up a large tank (which I did not purchase through them) and they still helped me with everything I needed for the tank. I apologized for asking so many questions and being annoying and the response I received was "dont worry about it because if you dont ask, you will never learn". They are not condescending people, they educate and correct people so they dont end up killing fish. I would highly recommend them to anyone who is into this hobby. They also have helped me correct issues I have had in the past, within reason. I completely understand when they have to draw a line because if they were in business to give stuff away, they wouldnt be in business.

Great fish selection & prices. My issue is this is the 2nd time their customer service is bad. I came in this Saturday morning (3/26/16) at 11:30 am. There was 4 workers there, one was talking to a guy for over 20 mins about a snake. I walked around the fish selection 3 times with no body asking for help for over 20 mins. I went to the register where 2 workers were talking to each other & I asked if I can get some fish help. They didnt respond to me so I left without over $120.00 of fish I wanted. UPDATE: 7/2/17 similar experience, workers talking to each other by register. Over 15 tanks by the freshwater side were empty, the other tanks had little to no variety.

I called on the telephone today asking if he took trade in fish. He then asked me what I had. I told him. He then talked a bunch of circles explaining how nobody wants to buy fish from Tanganyika so they are hard to sell and blah blah blah. I explained from the beginning that I heard he had a good store and just wanted to see if he allowed trade ins for store credit. I didnt ask for a 90 second explanation why youre not interested in my particular fish. Just say youre not interested and maybe if youre smart give me a 20 second sales pitch on why I should still come to your store instead of responding like I was a cold calling solicitor.

I cant complain about the animals. But when i called the owner(or older worker) to ask to return one, he immediately started to yell at me. He never let me explain myself and just kept going on amusing that i had no idea what i was talking about. There was no way that i could negotiate with him. He was very stubborn and i feel like i purchased something from a shady character. This man definitely does not care about the animals he is selling or his customers. He only cares about business and not losing money over any of these things. I will never go here again and I hope no one else has to meet this man.

Best fish store in the area by far. Skip PetSmart and PetCo for your fish tanks cause youre overpaying and supporting companies that dont always take care of the fish. They really care for every single living thing in this place - plants, fish, frogs, seahorses, lobsters, crabs, everything. The staff is awesome too, everyone I have spoken to knows a ton about aquariums and loves where they work. I come here about every 1-2 weeks to buy their biodegradable filters and to replace any plants in my tank and I dont spend more than $10 where as at a chain I would be spending well over that much.

This place is AWESOME~!! We walked in and we were greeted and right away helped! They had a ton of fish and a great supply of feeder fish for my oscars. I havent been able to find a place around here that is fully in stock and always in stock of them. The tanks were the cleanest I have ever seen any other fish tank. i have gone to pet stores and their tanks are cloudy and mucky.. this place had the most amazing clean tanks I have ever seen!! Such an amazing assortment of fish and animals. they had a few kittens and reptials but DEFINATLY the place to go for fish!! GREAT PRICES!!
