They sold me an armadillo lizard, without knowing any information on it. When i asked to hold it for a closer look I noticed its eyes were closed and sunken in. I asked if it was blind and they told me "No you just need to soak him" Come to find out with a little research when I got home with this lizard he was in fact blind. Now I already have a desert lizard, a uro which Ive had for almost 3 years now so with this armadillo lizard being desert inhabited I set up his cage with the likeness of my uros. I did look online to see if there was any difference I should look out for. other than this lizard being a carnivore and my uro being a herbivore the lifestyle was pretty much the same. I paid $70 for this armadillo lizard and two days later he had choked on his food (mealworms, smallest ones) we did however get him to regurgitate it to move it out of his windpipe and after using a q-tip that was wet to remove any sand and lingering worm from his mouth, we checked his windpipe and it was clear and we thought all was well with our new lizard. We put him in his little lagoon with warm water to relax and watched him for another 20 minutes just to be sure he was okay. the next morning we wake up and check on him and he had passed away. I called the house of reptiles because my boyfriend said i should ask about getting my money back or at least getting another lizard, one which wasnt already life hindered. So i called and was told that they had this lizard for 8 months and he was perfectly fine so it was my fault and we killed it so there was no availability to get my money back! then the owner proceeds to tell me all he could do is wait for more of that same species of lizard to come in and he would give me one for a discount price! Are you kidding me?! One, i have been a frequent customer going every 3 months or less to get worms and check out the selection You did NOT HAVE THAT LIZARD FOR 8 MONTHS!, Two, You and your employees couldnt even tell he was blind! Three you sold me a lizard that was blind for $70 when 90% of other reptile places are selling them for $30-40. Which those ones are guaranteed perfect health and come with a warrantee! I told you over the phone I wouldnt inconvenience you, but only for the fact I was at my place of work with customers walking by and I was being professional. You will however like to know that because of the way you treated me over the phone in recap selling me a lizard for double the price its worth, selling him obviously in not good health he was BLIND and your employees didnt know that, and then saying it was my fault and I killed it when me and my boyfriend stayed up for a total of two hours caring and tending to him to make sure he was okay! and not compensating me for my money or time you have wasted, You HAVE NOW LOST MY BUSINESS. As well as my friends who are reptile enthusiasts as well. Which theres about 10 of us and at $70 for an ill and blind lizard which you could have easily returned me my money, youve now lost about $2,000 in sales a year, for me and my friends. I will also be spreading the word for anyone who doesnt want to be ripped off and accused of your establishments faults, to never waste their money or time there. Have a great day.

I have been in here a few times, I agree with Rae Murphys review. When I call them to ask if they had hairless rats I was told they did that they had two one had red eyes the other black and was dumbo eared. When I drove all the way out to the store which is a 45 min drive I was a bit uneasy if I was going to find what I expected as he kind of sound as if he wasnt being completely honest as to what type they were. Any way I got to the store expected the smell and it is hard to move around in there and Im not super big it felt like a tight amaze. Now what I dislike about going here the most is how they lack to approach you for one and even ignore you when standing at the front counter. Then they are pretty unpleasant to talk to like they are just plain miserable aggressive and rude. Both times I went to this store the man and women were arguing with eat other and didnt seem to be on the same page about thing. I had one tell me they would do one thing then the other find out about it after I drove so long and act as if it wasnt okay when I was there. When I arrived to purchase what I asked for which was a hairless rat, after a while of waiting and them bickering I made it clear I didnt want the red eye but she brought that one out to show me. They were awkwardly standing there as if they were trying to push this one off on me I repeated a few times that I drove out there for the dumbo eared hairless. Finally they bought her out btw they are not hairless they are double rex meaning their parents were both rex hair rats producing double rex which they generally appear hairless but still have hair one the face and legs. I was looking for a true hairless and pointed this out on the phone even mention they dont have hair on the legs and face right thats when he responded and I had a feeling it wouldnt be what I expected. I just feel that they would have no issue trying to get one over on someone I am sure theres a reason they do not take back sick animals. They are about the money only it seems, good breeders/owners should want to make sure people get what they want, know how to care for the animal, offer advise and give some type of warranty on their animals. I honestly just dont like the shady feeling I get being in there they have a lot of selection but I dont like putting up with that crap. Dont argue in front of customers giving each other nasty looks and learn to be a little friendly and ask your customers how you can help them dont avoid them.

So there are a number of mixed reviews on here about The House of Reptiles and while everyone has their own opinion, mine is as follows. First off as soon as the door to the store is opened there is no way to ignore the incredible stench of feces and urine that is emitted into the air. The store in super small and no two people can pass through any aisle at the same time. The shelves are covered in nothing but dust and filth and is in need of a good cleaning. The Snakes were kept in cages where they did not get any sunlight and artificial sunlight was not provided for them. In addition five or more juvenile snakes were kept in the same ten gallon cage. Not to mention that the snakes were not even provided with hides so they could feel safe. The substrate was extremely filthy in all the snake cages and the snakes didnt even have bowls for bathing or drinking. Those cages that did have drinking dishes for the snakes were filled with brown water and were full of the bedding. The cages that were placed near the aisle were very unstable. Many of the snakes looked malnourished with sagging skin and the tails of the rattle snakes looked dried and their skin was cracking. There was absolutely no customer service at all in the store as well. My girlfriend and I were in the store for more than fifteen minutes and were never asked if there was something we needed or if we could be helped. While in the store a young boy of maybe eight was pounding on the glass of all the venomous snakes and joyfully boasted, "this one has already striked at me once, I want it to do it again." And even though the owner seen this he did not discourage the behavior. All in all my experience at The House of Reptiles was not a pleasant one. I previously heard so many great things about the store and thought that it would be a great place to go for my two corn snakes and my ball python. However I was very disappointed and sad that I wasted the gas to drive across town to a store that treats its reptiles and customers so poorly.
