As Giant Food stores go, this store is understocked with fresh food, overstocked with pharmacy / housewares / holiday / candy. But it is a convenient location with lots of parking. The real problems are: 1) Cleanliness - a chronic problem, especially around the bakery and prepared foods area. Ive seen rats and Ive seen bread packages on the shelves that clearly had been nibbled. So Dont ever buy a soft package good at the Giant without checking it for nibble marks. 2) Sales Prices - Sales tags often dont reflect the price at the checkout line. Over the course of a weeks sale I have found products not correctly priced on day one that still were not correctly priced by the last day of the sale. Also, just because there is a sales tag on the shelf where a product is, does not mean a product is really on sale. The staff chronically leaves expired sales tags on the shelf. They also stock other versions of products on shelves when they run out of the product on sale. The print is so small and cryptic on the tags that it makes it difficult tell when there is a problem. So, check over your receipt carefully and take problems to customer service. They are suppose to give you a product for free if a price is not correct in their system and they are suppose to honor a sales price if they have made an error in leaving up tags. 3) Expiration dates - Always check expiration dates of food packaging for meats, dairy, and even frozen foods. I seem meat on the Giants shelf that is 2 days past expiration and I have purchased old milk. Ive even bought frozen veggies that when I cooked them had that freezer burn taste because they were so old. 4) Security - I get really upset by this problem because GIANT CORPORATION is certainly aware of the issues with intoxicated people and panhandlers hanging out on the property. When paying for your order, dont let others see you pull out a wallet stuffed with cash. At one time the store definitely had a problem with customers getting held up as they left the Giant property. One store employee told me that a gang had a lookout who would hang out in the checkout area and text his accomplices when he saw someone acting careless with lots of money. As for drunks and others hanging out in the parking lot, just be careful leaving the store and ignore panhandlers and people trying to start of conversations. It seems awful unfriendly, but the Giant parent company has created this horrible situation and there is little an individual can do, except survive it.

I have been coming to the Giant Store for 15 years +. My grandmother use to live across the street in the Immaculate Conception Bld. (GOD rest her soul). Looking out the window from here apt at the GIANT across the street. What ever went on she knew, when it was closed she knew, when it was in trouble she knew, oh how that window kept her busy. HAHAHAH....... :) She was confined to a wheelchair and everytime she would go to the Giant people would help her across the street. Once she got in the Giant any employee would help her at any time and sometimes push her around to get her groceries. She loved to go in one particular line and that was the express close to the customer service counter. Her favorite menu daily would be pet can milk, a certain bread, 2 red potatoes, bannans, and cornflakes or rice krispes, and she had to have some kind of sweets, like and apple turnover, her favorite beets and some veal chops. EVERYONE knew my grandmother (who was called GRANDMA) even the security guard that is still there to this day (small guy, always smiling). She loved the GIANT and before she went home to be with the Lord she made sure she did her last stop at the GIANT Food on O Street Market. I miss pushing over there so much, now I walk to the GIANT from my home which is across the street. Everyday I go in there it is reminded to my spirit that this was my grandmothers favorite store.Thank you for being kind to my grandmother GIANT Food. Love you granny and thank you for the dedication to GIANT......

I moved here a couple of months ago. I have only been treated with the utmost courtesy. I shop here a couple of times a week. I like the organic milk, fresh fruit and vegetables, 100% juices, energy drink, meats are fine, good deals on cereal. They bag the groceries for you. No problems from anyone. Yeah, I see some people hanging outside, now and again, but so what? I have much less pigment in my skin than some, but I will tell you that people are people anywhere you go. I dont get a bad vibe about this place. The bad vibe is in your head. I live a few blocks away from giant, and I am not ghetto at all. I am not scared at all, but then again I have friends of all races. I see people of all ages and races shopping here. Whats next, will you be scared of the pigment color in my eyes? I havent seen any pan handlers here, but I see some downtown, but who knows... What city have you been to that there is no panhandling?

The majority of the staff at this store excels in absolute laziness. God forbid you want to check out your groceries and pay for them without having to wait 25 minutes in line, because the cashiers mess up a payment, cant ring an item in, or just generally doesnt give a $h!t about anyone or anything, most especially not doing their job in any sort of timely fashion. Not to mention the store is poorly stocked and generally dirty. There are always groups of people just hanging around the front of the store with seemingly no groceries purchased or even plans to go in the store... just loitering. Save your time and go to Safeway on New York Ave & 5th St. The store is beautiful, the staff friendly, and always well stocked.

The wine selection is fantastic. You can find bottles ranging from the single digits all the way into the hundred dollar price range and dating back to 2010. The gourmet cheese section is also great. Produce is better than Safeway and so is the met department. What is not so good is the employees and their attitudes. Management is friendly but some of the employees are some of the most disrespectful I have come across in local businesses. On numerous occasions employees have refused to help customers. I have experienced this myself. Employees seem unhappy and seldom smile. How sad. The old Giant store was better as far as employee friendliness. I guess some of the good ones have moved on now.
