I am not trying to stereotype the people who runs this store. But after a horrible experience dealing with them (trying to purchase a meat product), I have recurrent flashbacks of my many failed, conned, frustrating, bait-switch and other tricks of New York based camera shops. What made the matter more realistic was the accent of the manager which was quite similar to those camera salesmens (very middle eastern, my apology if offended but I am just stating the fact). To summarize, I called and talked to the meat department manager (**to) to make a special order for a meat product with a specified price/lb yesterday (a whole pig). Today, when I tried to set up an arrangement to pick up the order, the price suddenly went up by more than 200% (from $3.75 to $8.99 per lb), and the then manager is now a regular employee and is on vacation (he didnt mention this yesterday). I even called this morning & verified the order and the original price. Granted I am willing to accept a price variation, but when a pork becomes more expensive than sir loin steak, I rather eat the latter. What make the matter worse is that I could have purchased it from another butcher at $4/lb and would have been fully ready for my group pig roast picnic tomorrow. But by trying to save a bit (Thankx for no good for nothing article in Washingtonpost . The mentioned butcher in the article no longer works there, and I wonder why?), my whole picnic plan is in an emergency mode. My plea asking for their honoring of the original price and argument for the absurdity of the pork price was met by a comparable treatment from the now new manager (**cob) who even threatened to produce an invoice showing the price (I am sure he can write one up at anytime/price if he wants to). At this point, I thanked him and told him he has every right to sell his goods at the price he wants to sell. I also told him that a business should honor their promise/price, and I also have every right to let others to know about my experience so that they can avoid similar experience and use care in case they want to purchase something from Brookville. Thankx for reading this.

Decent neighborhood grocery story--prices are higher than your local Giant or Safeway, but youre paying for the convenience. You kind of get hit with a weird smell whenever you enter--its not overwhelmingly awful, but more like some small animal died in the ceiling in the 80s and they decided that rather than clean it up, theyd just leave it there until literally every last molecule rotted away to nothing, so that now its just a gentle unpleasant odor that just needs a few more years to dissipate entirely. Their produce is pretty consistently great, gotta give a shout out there.

I live near Dupont Circle and its worth coming out to Cleveland Park for Brookville Market. They have an excellent selection of kosher meats and cheeses comparable to what can be found in Silver Spring. The produce is beautiful and reasonably priced, and the employees are helpful and friendly.

This place is your friendly neighborhood grocer! Some prices are high, but most are totally fair market value and there are some sweet deals periodically. If you need an ingredient or two and cant be bothered to drive to the big box store again, go to Brookville!
