Really disappointed by IKEA, their policies, and service. So much corporate red tape when it comes to items not in stock, on a high shelf, etc. Spent over $30k there the past 2 months between kitchen and bath cabinets - oh and then counter tops. Way too many trips to get missing items or order assembled correctly. Just ludicrous. Trying to get a human on the phone is impossible (do not even try - if you are in store get the extension number of anyone you ever plan on contacting in the future - they wont answer but you have a chance at least). We used their $375 in home measuring service for the kitchen which was truly pitiful and full of errors. Complete waste of $375 (manager later refunded the money) Spent 8 full hours in store working with a kitchen consultant to get the errors corrected. Even then the red tape came into play. Had to take some items with us because they were unable to add them to the delivery order (an order of 436 pieces). Another trip I needed 5 identical vanities. "No problem" I am told - "we have 13 in stock!". Go to pick up my 5 and after much waiting I am advised 10 of the units are on a rack and require a forklift to get them. "Come back tomorrow". (it is only a 3 hour round trip for me!!). I ask if they can ship them with the $24k in cabinets we have already paid to be delivered in a few weeks - No Can Do!!! So alas yet another wasteful trip back for items on the shelf that they cannot deliver... What a company! Delivery was appalling. Many damaged items. Subcontracted delivery guys took much persuasion to take cabinets to second level where kitchen is going. Several times I watched them walking over boxes, dropping and tossing boxes. Cannot wait to see how we go with the counter top contractors. They clearly have been using the most inexpensive bidders they can find for measuring, and delivery for kitchen cabinets (So So glad we did not use their installation service for cabinets).

Buying a group of bookcases and some wine glasses turned into a half-day hassle compounded by IKEAs delivery screwup. First there is winding your way through a warren of closed-in displays to find what youre looking for. Then, if its knocked-down furniture, there is copying item numbers and warehouse locations onto the form they provide. In our case, we were comparing bookcases in two areas not visible from each other, which was time consuming. Then we got lost trying to find wine glasses. To avoid a "picking" charge, we had to pull heavy boxes from racks in the warehouse, and load them onto a cart. There was a man on duty to help with heavy items, so why couldnt IKEA just have him pick the items for us? Then there was the checkout line, and then a second line to arrange delivery. At least we had "picked" the stuff ourselves, so we knew what would be delivered, right? Wrong! After arranging to be home for a morning delivery window, we got a call rescheduling the delivery to between 4pm and 8pm. At 8:45pm our bookcases were delivered, but instead of our doors, they tried to leave some boxes of the wrong size, and labelled for someone else. A call to IKEA the next morning yielded a commitment to get back to us within 48 hours. That call never came, but the doors did arrive via FedEx within 4 days. The were easy enough, but time consuming to assemble; and the instructions failed to say that the frame should be squared up to match the back before the back is nailed on. I wound up pulling some nails out of one back; squaring the frame, and re-nailing the back. The bookcases look nice, but the backs and the doors feel and sound flimsy. I wont buy any more furniture from IKEA, though the wine glasses were a bargain, and a wide spatula bought on a previous trip is ideal for removing fish from a skillet.

So i buy a KALLAX shelf, i was in and out of the store in 20 minutes. When putting it into my car i notice a corner of the box had a little smoosh. I open it and look, some paint is chipped, I come in, buy a new one, in and out in 5 minutes this time. Then come in to return the damaged one. Ive been waiting longer to return it then i have been in the store. It has roughly taken 40 minutes to return an item. To drill all this home, heres the next few pieces that seriously earn that one star which should be negative 5 stars. Not only is the staff sometimes rude but its so hard to find someone to help you in some areas. I bought a few lamps which have that yellow tag sale, which signifies the lowest price ever on that type of item. I later in the week bought a lamp from walmart for my friend and it was $1.50 more but the quality and craftmanship was 50% better. The cord actually ran on the inside of the rod, such a cleaner look. And it also came with a screw part that held the shade on vs ikea shade just sites there and the cord is hanging down the side. I also noticed they made a reading lamp that only takes their bulbs. Overall a terrible money grab. Stick to your local walmart i hate to say. Walmart youre in and out for returns, it doesnt take an hour or more to shop for one item vs ikea walking through the whole store. And the prices and quality are better, in my opinion not worth the hassle of the drive or the wait. I will no longer be shopping at ikea. Also asked to talk to a manager about the wait time to return and i was told they said just wait. Just wait?! What about people who have things to do, who wants to wait 40 minutes for one return?! Lastly. Why are there 15 or so registers and only ever 2-3 open? What the hell is ikea motives here, its all about that bottom dollar im assuming.

Ikea actually wouldnt sell to us. They had a special clearance sale or something but the tags were marked "last chance" and we asked an employee about how to get the piece we were looking at because that was what the tag said to do. She told us they didnt have it in stock and would have to ship it to our house which was fine but when we asked for a price she told us they wouldnt ship to our location and we couldnt have it. So, like any reasonable person we were like why not and all we got for an answer was because we dont ship there why didnt you go to the one in MA if youre from MA (because of where we live the one in CT was closer so we went there). Then we asked her about something esle related to this and she looked at us with all the sass in the world and actually said "my boss comes in at noon if you want you can wait for him and hell tell you no too." mind you we had not been disrespectful in any way to this woman we just wanted to know why they wouldnt sell the piece to us (we never found out, Im sorry but because we dont isnt a real answer and because you wont ship it that far isnt either especially if you have a store in the state that you can ship it from). As a bonus just about everything on the floor was last chance as well. Ikea actually would not sell to us. Then we spent over half an hour looking for an exit the signs didnt help and sent us in a loop.
