I come from India and took up dirt biking in late 2009. Bought my very first bike, and was now faced with the issue of where to get my gear. And so, the first time I went to Performance was when one of my biker friends insisted I should not go to any other store but Performance to buy my very first dirt riding gear. Curious to unravel the mystery of his persuasion, I went to the store on Halloween night, the night they were having their “Annual Sale”. I was struck by the honesty, simplicity and the familial approach of both staff and owner. At first it was pretty difficult for me to figure out who was the employee and who the owner. They were all dressed up in their Halloween costume, every one of them in a jovial mood…..each one trying to help the old and the new customers. I was treated exactly the same as my friend, who has been visiting the store since he took up dirt / street biking, and can safely assume that it would be around 22 years. Bernie helped me with my apparel, so did Lance with my boots. They opened their arms and took me in not as a customer but as a friend. Next what blew me away, was the invite to join them in their after Sales dinner, and here I saw the camaraderie between the staff and the owner. And, then in Spring next year, I saw Bernie and the team at the Poker runs at Rampart….though being a Sunday, she was and is always up there at the range, early in the morning serving donuts and hot coffee…..helping the RRMMC Poker Run volunteers in the Sign Up process. And not to forget the biggest turnout always for the Performance Work Party at Rampart. That says a lot about how the customers feel about the family and the staff. I have returned to this place time and again, both as a customer and as a friend…words do not explain the love and attention that I have received from Don, Bernie, Lance, Nichole, Gary, Jesse, Paul, Brittney, and others.

This store is great... as long as you dont need to return anything. Assume all sales are final, because theyll take your money one way or another. The first time was when I bought a chain breaker, which the staff swore up and down would work on my chain. It promptly broke. When I brought it back, the store owner said "well how am I supposed to resell this?" Its a defective product, thats not my problem. The second time was when I bought a tire from them. They didnt have it in stock and had to order it in, and made me pay for shipping. Due to complications, I would not have been able to use the tire. I brought the tire back, still in original packaging, and they almost wouldnt accept the refund. Finally, they agreed they would accept it, but were going to charge me $15 to send it back to the distributor. Yet again, thats a deal with their distributor. This is not my problem. When I had brought back the tire, I also brought back an old tire carcass to recycle from the front tire I had purchased from them. I wasnt told until after the cashier had finished ringing it up that it would be a $2 charge to dispose of the old tire. Ive walked out of this store with over $1000 in a single purchase, multiple times. The staff know me and recognize me, and there are employees I have a regular repoire with. I am extremely disappointed with the way Ive been treated. I used to be a fairly regular customer there, but this store will not be receiving any more patronage from me, my friends, or members of my riding clubs. Edit: I since was called by the owners daughter. She apologized for the incident, and refunded me the $15 shipping for my tire. I will be more hesitant to shop here in the future, but I do appreciate they made amends.

Peace of mind About a month ago I bought pads and tires from Performance and they sent me over to Woodys Tires to have them installed. I was told I really should set up an appointment to have the work done, but they would fit me in if they have to. In today’s “get it now society” we all like to think we’re the most important person in the world and I’m not above saying I’m the same way. The service was great and they got my bike back on the road in no time flat. After driving the bike a few times over a 3 week period my brakes started squeaking really bad! I addressed this issue with the folks at Woodys Tires and Performance. Although we had a difference of opinion both places agreed to replace the brake and install new ones at no cost if the issue continues. They asked and I agreed to give it another week before I scrap a perfectly fine product and waste their time and mine. The above took place yesterday and the brakes are still squeaking. However, knowing that I will be taken care of if the brakes don’t form to the routers and stop squeaking is what prompted me to write this review. For me customer service is EVERYTHING! I have to be able to trust who I’m buying from and believe that they will right any wrongs that are caused. I’m not saying anyone did anything wrong but I now know that if there is an issue they will handle it. Despite that being aggressive and abrasive at times, I am a reasonable and intellectual person who is very loyal. I will henceforth use and promote these two businesses, their products, and their services.

I left work early and raced down to Denver from Evergreen last night to get to Performance Cycle before closing so that I could buy a jacket before the weekend. As far as I know, they were the only ones in town that carry the one I was looking for. At 5 till 6:00, I was at 6th and Broadway, and called the store to tell them that I was on my way to get a jacket and was probably going to get there a bit past 6:00, would that be okay? The girl on the phone said, "sorry, we close at 6:00, but were open at 9:00 tomorrow morning. Um, yeah, like you, I have to be at work tomorrow morning. In Evergreen. Since I was already so close, I figured Id brave the construction traffic and drive down there just incase they were still putting stuff away for the night...maybe theyd be really nice? Im in retail and we frequently stay open late for customers. I got to the store at about 6:10 and knocked on the door. A guy came to the door and said, "are you from Boulder?" I thought perhaps the girl I spoke with on the phone had mentioned the call and he was just mistaken about where I was from. Maybe hed let me in? I said, "no, Evergreen..." "Oh. Sorry, were closed." Soooo, I called OTD Cyclesports on Colfax and ordered the jacket from them instead. I understand the folks at Performance Cycle wanting to close and go home, I feel the same way at the end of the day, I just wish they could have been more accommodating. I wasnt there to waste their time, I just wanted to grab my jacket and run. Thanks for nothing, Performance Cycle.
