The people who hate this place are just angry that theyre broke. Im really glad that it exists. I had a assumed they only carried processed crappy food before I went there but was pleasantly surprised to find some high quality stuff, like Tillamook and Ben and Jerrys, nice imported cheeses, Amys if youre in a hurry and want frozen for 50% of what it sells for at Raileys. They also occasionally have good deals on high end cosmetics. As to expiration dates - there isnt an instant "off" switch where food is suddenly spoiled. Most of what I get there is not expired - yes, closer than what you usually get at Safeway, but in most cases it doesnt matter, and for some things, like a fine brie, it is actually better with age. Bacteria like salmonella dont suddenly appear in a sealed container after a certain date - if those contaminants exist theyre harmful in the freshest food. Skip the coffee - that gets stale, and some things like their potatoes and onions dont last too well, but weve got a Farmers market for great prices on fresh produce. Just use your sense and read the labels - yes - you are in a thrift store for food - and you just scored some perfectly yummy Aidells sausage and Kerrygold cheese for 1/2 off - what are you whining about? Ive never had a bad experience with the staff. The lines are never as bad as the local Safeways, even at the peak of dinner time. Yes, you might rub shoulders with some trailer trash and ghetto-looking folks... and theyre more likely to be polite than some stuffed shirt BMW-driving jerk who thinks hes too important to wait in line. You wont be contaminated. Observe... maybe youve underestimated some of those folks... if not, consider them material for your next novel. And ALL supermarket parking lots are bad - been to a Trader Joes lately? - much worse! Just dont try to find the closest possible space to the door that everybody is trying to get. Park back in the third row, get a teeny bit of exercise and spare your nerves - thats my strategy for all parking lots. And if you really hate it - dont shop there - all the more good stuff or the rest of us!

Been a regular customer of this location for five years, and have had only good experiences. It like Trader Joes has found a niche market. You can count on them for extreme savings everyday, they are my favorite stores. Usually, I dont buy or cook in large quantities. For overall shopping experience in North Bay & East Bay, Ive found that Vallejo Grocery Outlet holds its own with Safeway, Lucky, Albertsons, Raleys, FoodMaxx, Costco. I use these others to fill in the gaps of my two favorites or when Im in a time crunch & they are right there. Ive found it important to check Sell By, Best By & Use By dates and prices on my register receipt at ALL stores of ANY COMPANY and TYPE. I usually look over my receipt before I drive away since I usually miss the readout at the checker stand. All stores have had pricing mistakes, some more than others. GROCERY OUTLET has a GOOD TRACK RECORD with me. I agree with Pearl, Comelia, and what Gretchen said about G. Outlet & about Sell By, Best By, and Use By dates. Regarding those dates, it relates mostly to food quality. For the customer to have a good quality product, the food companies must be conservative in their estimate to reasonably assure the truth of these dates. Usually, food Ive opened a few weeks or few months beyond these dates has still been good quality & appetizing including yogurt. But Ive found fresh meat, milk & cream need to adhere closely to those dates from any store, and occasionally even then milk has gone bad within 3-4 days of opening. At this store the only dairy I buy is cheese, butter, cream cheese & yogurt so I do not know about its milk & cream.

I shop at this store every week, and the only reason is because the prices are so low for organic and vegan foods. If I had more money to spend on groceries, I would never come back to this store. It smells like cat urine in the back of the store by the produce, so I never would consider buying fruit or vegetables from here. Several of the prices listed arent correct. If you were to go to Safeway or any of the other bigger grocery stores, they would take the fault for it and give you the item for the price listed. At this store, they refused to give me the price on the sticker, so I refused to buy the item. I complained to the manager, who seemed annoyed that I knocked on the office door. I explained the situation to her and she said she would have someone fix it right away. I went to the store yesterday, and the price is listed the exact same way. In short, the staff is careless, the store smells, and the management sucks. Lets hope I get a pay raise soon so I can just shop at a clean supermarket.

I have never had an unpleasant experience here. The staff are particularly cheerful and helpful. They will win you over. The prices are astonishing. I often suffer from REVERSE sticker shock. They do not always have everything Im looking for, but they have MOST of the things Im looking for most of the time, and the cost savings are so great that I could easily go elsewhere for things they dont have and STILL be 30-50% ahead on my grocery bill. The other thing is they hire locally, and jobs are scarce here. Theyve hired 27 local people and thats nothing to scoff at. Theyre a win-win for SW Vallejo and Im glad theyre here.

What a nightmare..... All I can say is RED SODA POP EVERYPLACE.... my wife went to this store for the first and last time, ... during check-out their was a nice older gentleman in front of her having trouble with a soda bottle and instead of giving him some help the store employees just looked the other way, and well the soda went all over the store and my wife and kids, big mess big, big mess and then the employees waited 5 minutes to clean it up, my wife had to actually ask for a towel to clean herself off... all i can say to the employees .... dont worry we wont be back and so you dont have to do any work !

I noticed a lot of outdated product so i talked to the manager and told him there where a lot of outdated products in the dairy cooler . He said he could sell out dated product up to 30 days after experation date thats why its so cheap. That is just crazy a manager would care so little for the people that buy from his store that hed be ok selling outdated dairy products which can give people food borne illness such as Campylobacter jejuni ,Salmonella ,Listeria monocytogenes ,ect.

Good deals on both name brands and interesting finds, indulgent to healthy, including organic shelf-stable items. Some good conventionally grown produce, including lots of prepared salads. Fairly logical organization: I appreciate that the impulse items that are placed to catch the eye are also available in the appropriate section for easy comparison shopping.

The best thing I can say is that I always leave happy. I especially like it when they announce the amount that I have saved. Sometimes I feel like going back into the store to use the amount I saved to buy more. They can never be sure an item will be in stock because things sell out quickly. So if you see it, buy it in bulk-it may not return.
