Preface: This is a real review- as opposed the the sheepish fake reviews placed, en masse everywhere else. After deciding on the range I wanted and seeing that it was the same price everywhere, I went with the best salesperson. How Costa bamboozled me with his demeanor. It was a Thermador and therefor expensive range, so of course he was very quick to take my money and schedule me for delivery the coming THURSDAY 12-5p. Of course they never showed- but when I called at 4:15 to see if they WERE going to show, I was assured that in 20 minutes theyd be there. Nope. So I called at 5:30 and they were going to look into it and call back. They did not. So when I called at 6:15 and spoke to Frank, he was apathetic, apologized in the perfectly rehearsed manner of someone who apologizes on a daily basis and said Id have to reschedule. He blamed it on the delivery men not calling in to report that they were running late. I said "thats 2 days Ive got to take off work now and I shouldnt have to pay for installation." He disagreed and said that he couldnt comp me the installation fee because that is a labor fee and wouldnt be right. We went back and forth until we settled somewhere in the middle. A refund of 60sih dollars which of course, I NEVER RECEIVED. We rescheduled for Monday 12-5. The next day (Friday) I called to confirm the rescheduling with Costa. I said "Im calling to confirm". He said "Ok. Youre confirmed for today, 12-5." I said "Wha? Really?" He said "Yes. But really expect them around 4" So I scrambled and got someone at my house for delivery. Of course when 4p came around, no one came. So I called and Costa said hed check into it and call me back. Of course no call back. At 5 when I tried calling him again, I was told that he had LEFT FOR THE DAY. I left a message on the manangers voice mail- but really, what else could I expect but no call back. I dropped it for the weekend so that I wouldnt give my self an ulcer. It came on Monday and Michael the delivery man was the only person in the company with whom I dealt that WAS professional. I did NOT get the extended warranty from the company as I want NOTHING more to do with them. Well see if the range lasts the year. Thank God for manufacturers warranties. Once they have your money, forget about it.

I was in the market for three appliances (stackable washer/dryer, refrigerator, dishwasher) and kind of stumbled onto Universal Appliance at Laurel Canyon/Ventura. I was eating at one of the nearby restaurants in the mini-mall, saw the store and ventured in. It was very impressive...the showroom space is a lot larger than it first appears. They have a large selection of current model appliances from all of the major manufacturers...mostly medium and high-end brands. I ended up buying a Bosch dishwasher, Jenn Air refrigerator and Maytag stackable washer/dryer. What initially sold me was the very professional help that I received from Maida, one of the sales associates. I had a few logistic/space problems that she helped me overcome. She would scour the computer for inventory and print up sheets on what I was considering. She would then take me to the exact model (or one similar) on the floor to discuss advantages/drawbacks of each appliance. The prices were totally competitive with what I had seen at the two other major appliance stores I had already shopped. There was no major wait (maybe a week?) to get the items. The delivery guys showed up on time and installed everything properly. I did have one issue with the dryer not heating and within two days of my call, they sent someone out who was able to troubleshoot the problem and fix it quickly (at no charge). What I liked about Maida is that she stayed in touch with me all along the way. Shed e-mail me a few days before a delivery just to remind me something was coming. She also took care of the paperwork required to get one of my manufacturers rebate. I made four or five phone calls to her during this process (what type of vent? whats the height? can the delivery guys bring...? etc.) and all calls were promptly returned the same day (except one when she was off and then she called me on her first day back). I was very happy with the selection, service and consultative help that I received from my sales associate, Maida. Everyone may not have the same great experience that I had, but you should certainly include Universal when looking for appliances.

I wish I could say something positive about this place, but cant. From start to finish I had nothing but problems. I purchased an LG washer and Dryer from one of the sales reps. He said it was a great unit, high efficiency, yadda yadda yadda. At this point all sounded great. But now we are ready for delivery. We waited two hours past our 4 hour delivery time and every time we called they said they were on their way. Finally a manager got on the phone and said the dispatch arbutrairly says they are on their way. Manager Long Trinhs response "Our dispatcher is Russian and not very friendly, he tells everyone that the truck is on its way" Because of this mistake Long Trinh offered to give me a 1 year extended warranty to keep me happy. A week into ownign the unit the washing machine breaks down. Universal says sorry, not our fault, call LG. Additionally, manager Long Trinh tells me if he sold me the unit he would never sell LG. In fact he sais that teh LG reps washer also broke down and LG refused to fix the reps machine. When i call LG, they tell me they will send out a technician. The technician arrives a few days later and tells me I need a new motor and transmission. Really this is one week old. I think I need a replacement at this point. To no avail. New parts arrive in a few days and the installer puts them in. One day later machine breaks down again. I guess the parts need more parts. LG still refuses to replace and Universal is unresponsive. Long story long. Stay away from Universal, stay away from LG. Buyer beware. Customer service at both LG and Universal are pitiful, and you need to stay away.

Go to Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center and see Long Trinh! I had to write about my recent experience with Universal, and in particular with Long Trinh, store manager. I had ordered an AGA range that had gotten very delayed - no fault of Universals. We had ordered all of our toilets and sinks from them and they had come in promptly. The range got delayed, and I was upset. Long was amazing to work with! His responsiveness and follow-through were totally impressive and very reassuring. He immediately went to work to fix the problem. He contacted the VP of sales for AGA, conveyed my dismay, asked for actual real and accurate delivery times, and then either called or sent me almost daily emails keeping me abreast of where the range was, and when we might have it in hand. He was able to move mountains, and the range actually arrived to us sooner than AGA had said it would, only because Long was on the case. I had to write to highly recommend Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center, and specifically Long Trinh. He was a pleasure to work with, and is incredibly knowledgeable, thorough and competent. I couldnt recommend him or Universal more highly.
