Its been a rough ride. I got a betta and some neon tetras here a while back. Its been a nightmare from start to finish. My first tank was cracked, they didnt have a replacement, so I got a small tank with a built in filter, and the flow was so high my fish couldnt function. Long story short after investing time, energy, and love... I got a couple extra tetras and they came with Ich, which killed off everything in my tank in the span of a week. I was intending to give a much worse review, but I when I came back in literal tears over the loss of my pets, I found the staff to be incredibly kind and helpful. If you are a manager and you are reading this, Amanda deserves a raise. She worked with me to brainstorm ways to save the one fish I had left, and genuinely listened to my frustrations. This is customer service, not hiding the problem or pretending there isnt fault, but apologizing and moving forward. Mistakes happen, and she dealt with it beautifully. Ultimately, lesson learned, quarantine your new fish and keep a close eye out for infections. It can happen even at the best of stores. Thank you again, Amanda for taking the time to listen. You rock.

One worker walked by and as I followed him, trying to get his attention over and over again for help, I finally ended up just going in his line of vision asking for help; then getting met with a HUGE attitude. He absolutely DID NOT want to help me, it seemed like. I was very well dressed and not some hippy off the street...so I dont quite know why he was so rude. Anyway, all I needed was puppy food without chicken (my pup is severely allergic). I found a few bags but they were horrendously expensive. For reference, Petco just came out with their own line of food called whole hearted. Its basically a very high quality dog food priced at 24lbs for $39. Really good deal, right? All I could find at this petsmart was dog food without chicken (and no other parameters) for an 11lbs bag for $30. Yeah. Nah. I did however see their own line called simply something...they had an 11lbs (or 15lbs) bag FOR $30 AS WELL. RIDICULOUS. Tldr: I just went to westside supply for his dog food and found taste of the wild, a 30lbs bag, for $43. AmazIng deal and the people there WERE ACTUALLY NICE.

I visited Petsmart in order to get a few simple things to spruce up my Ball Pythons cage. I got a couple things that did work, like some dirt and a piece of wood for my snake to hide under, but the rest has just been irritating. First of all, I have had to go there 3 times in order to get a working sun light mimicking light bulb. Then, theres the aspect of buying food for a snake. They have no live feeder mice, only frozen, so I had to go across town to a real pet shop in order to get my snake some food. If you live in Santa Cruz and have a pet that eats large crickets, mice or rats, go to the place next to Safeway. They have snake food. Also, their large crickets are bigger than the ones at Petsmart and cost less.

My 8 month old dog was hit at the groomer here. He had been groomed many times. We brought him home and he was terrified of everything, ran in corners to hide from us and yelped over and over.He does not recognize us at times. Then sometimes he barks for hours (something he never did). Our vet has known him his whole life. She spent about an hour with him and is the one who figured out he had been hit very hard. She is sending the bill to Petsmart. But, I have not had a single apology. His state is declining and he may require and MRI. It has been a week! The terrified my baby, and the neurological damage may never go away. Do not support them. Do not shop there. Go to Pet Pals. Please tell everyone you know.

This place sucks! I have always taken my dogs to pet smart for grooming needs in other cities and had no complaints. But the one in Santa Cruz is by far the worst. I have tried their services 4 times thinking it was by fluke chance that the service was bad and my dog wasnt clean. But things never improved. The ladies there do not care or take any pride in there job. They will actually complain about other customers in front of you. My last and final visit caused a $200 vet bill because they got so much shampoo in my bulldogs eye that it cause a infection. Worst customer service Ive ever had. The store itself is great... Just dont use the grooming dept.

They have a great selection of pet supplies and the store is set up nicely, very warm and inviting (for a store displaying nothing but pet supplies.) Ive bought food for my dogs and also brought them in for a nail trimming as well, everything was fine. I had to call the grooming dept because I left a purchase in after picking up my dog. They held it there for me for 3 days! Very nice and helpful.

This store is huge and likely has whatever you need. They do bargain bins in the front, which can be a great way to find a new toy your pup is going to destroy in a day anyway, but be careful cause there is always $10+ toys mixed in from other bins. An employee suggests they put the bins side by side deliberately, which would be lame. Anyway, pay attention and deals are to be had. :)

I will never go there again. They are much too interested in everything to do with profiteering (insurance, dog clothing, cleaning and grooming, and the list is inexhaustable) I am back with Dr. Levy, because she is the "Jewish Mom" of my pets and doesnt presume to or try to profit in any way but honestly helping and loving the whole family (including the humans).

I use the grooming and find them better then most groomers in the area. Do not buy their birds! I fell for one batch of their "healthy" looking birds and between the two, one died and the other barely survived with my 2 original parakeets using bird antibiotics. My son was devastated.

Weve been taking our two flat-coat retreviers to PetSmart Santa Cruz once a month for about 8 or 9 months. The dogs love it and we love it!!! They do a great job and really care about our pets. We dont even have a request for a special groomer... they are all great!

Well organized store, decent selection, and really nice staff. Brought our animal in with us and when he inevitably felt the need to mark his territory, staff were quick to help us clean it up (even though we come prepared) and were extremely nice about it.

We go for pet food and to see all the critters, pet the kitties, and see all the peoples dogs. They have good sales all the time, a clean bathroom, and friendly dogs to pet, also the people who work their are friendly, but they dont wag their tails :D :D
