This rating is strictly based on our experience with Barbara the dog trainer at this store. We decided to sign up for a full session of puppy training classes while browsing around the store getting supplies for our new puppy. At that time, we were informed by Barbara herself that a new puppy session was to begin in a week or so. Upon arrival at the first class, she immediately gave off a nasty vibe about having my youngest child (age 3) at the class with both my wife and I. She was saying something about 1 of the other dogs owners not wanting to have kids around during the class, which made me think maybe they shouldve gotten a private session. My daughter was a little antsy at times, so I decided to walk around the store while my wife took part in the class with the puppy. I didnt think there seemed to be any problems at all. After class he mentioned there was a family class that was also available if we wanted to check it out. There was another family with 2 or 3 kids there as well. Today was class #2 and Barbara the meanie immediately told my wife that my two oldest boys (7 and 11) had to sit outside the fence and she told my wife that she could pull a piano bench over for my kids to sit on behind everyone else. Shes simply just lame. We are getting our money back and signing up for classes somewhere else. Straight Biatch!!!!!

We have used Petco as our "go to" location for new puppy supplies and training for five months now, so have a good idea of the advantages and disadvantages of the San Rafael/Montecito location. In terms of supplies, they have all the food you could ever need and about 10 to 15 percent less than 3 other Marin County pet stores I tried (regular priced items; not including sale items). They also offer a nice booklet if you adopt a new cat or dog (or fish?) that gives discounts that last for up to a year (we got our book Aug 2016 and the coupons are pre-printed to expire in March 2017.) Finally...training. We finished puppy level 1 having started with Imogen who quit, moved to Amber who transferred stores, and concluded with Tessa. Puppy Two we started but the six week class has now lasted almost 3 months...because Tessa has a workers compensation claim going on and was out, then must have come back too early and re-injured. No one else was trained in that store to take over for her. I dont think we will stay for Adult Dog classes, given their difficulties in keeping trainers this year. On the good note...all 3 women who were trainers were awesome, so whoever hires does a good job!

I agree with the review about Barbara. I did not have the means to add my two cents. I found Barbara to be really rude And disrespectful. Not a trait I would want my pet trainer to have. I went to sign up for a class but was not treated as a potential client. When she realized her rudeness, she called me to say there was another class I could take. I declined. The next time I was in for supplies, she saw me and tried to cozy up and retrieve any good bit of goodvwill. Thats too little too late. Now this happened years ago, and I thought it was just me, but if father called het a.biatch then I AGREE and wonder why she is still there. The store itself is ok. Not that it can be boutique, but it certainly could spiff it.up and cheer it up some. I dont go there unless I have to...and thats not happened in years. They do carry just about everything. Still not enuf to make me go.

I gave my healthy baby fish (guppys) and a week later, they were sick because the Pecto staff put them in a tank with a sick fish (with the "white spots disease"). I am really sad because they are probably going to die. And I also gave them my two females (also guppys) and one of the Petco staff just threw them in the tank without letting them get use to the water temperature in their bags. I could see that my fishes were scared. I think that the some of the Petco staff of San Rafael are not experimented at all in fish (and should be, because a simple little mistake could make a fish die) and should ask someone experimented to help their clients. Even though they are nice, I think the fish might be better taken care of in another store. I am very disappointed because I gave my fish to Petco so that they could grow in a healthy and great place but now they are probably all going to die...

I just bought a hamster and within minutes of being in my car (before I got home) he chewed through the box they put him in and is now somewhere in my car. I called the store and they offered no help. How can they give boxes that the pets can so easily chew through? He escaped through a hold in the bottom in less than 10 minutes. So now I not only dont have my new pet to play with, but its burrowed into a crevice in my car and I cant go anywhere until I get him out. I may have to take my car apart. I was hesitant to go to a big chain and now it is painfully obvious that neither quality nor animal safety are any of their concern.

Monday I made an appointment to groom my dog . The person that answered the phone (a man) told me that the next available appointment was for Wed 2pm. I took it. Here I am Wed 2 pm at Petco but there is no appointment. The 2 girls inside the grooming section told me that there is no other person in the grooming department besides them. So....no man ....no grooming...no appointment...are you f...serious?

Beware!!! These people are trained for a week in some place and put to work not know nothing about grooming. or even how to handle a dog. If you are so cheap as to take your dog or cat to this place. Please dont have a dog or cat. It is a very unprofessional place.. I called when down the street to Its A Pets World and loved it. Give them a try.

Bad grooming service... too many bad experiences to continue bringing my dog here. Last time they forgot his nails and we tried to give them the friendly reminder they need clipped this time and she got defensive and abrasive... zero for customer service. We are not picky people but we expect what we pay for. Shop here but dont groom here!

I Love this Petco… They are lucky to have at least 1 or 2 really good people in Fish Care. And at least 2 or more that are fairly knowledgeable about fish there too… The store and staff and all managers are just good people doing a great job and have always been friendly to me… Thank you guys very, very much… Mike!

Brought my shitzu for grooming and nail clipping. They were not able to clip her nails well, she even had broken nails which bled. Not satisfied with their service now. They were good before but I guess service deteriorated.

Super friendly staff. Their employee named Leela is fantastic. My dogs Captain Uno and Wiley Coyote have been afraid of getting their nails trimmed for years but not with Leela! She has the magic touch! Thank you!
