I went to cycle gear in an attempt to replace a bike lock for a broken key. I called this place up a few days in advance to know what my options are, maybe getting a new key or something of that matter. After an exchange if some information of describing the lock I found out the lock has been discounted and unable to even special order. The girl on the phone said just bring it in and we can trade it in. Not sure how that would work as my lock is pretty old. But I even asked "do I need to pay the difference", she said "nah, well take care if you, my manager will clear it" so my guess they are going to give me some crappy model. I go in to the store and explain to the gentlemen the story of the conversation we had on the phone with the "female employee", he takes the lock to the to consult with his Manger, the clerk comes out asks more details such if I have a receipt(which I dont), he goes back in updates the manager, the clerk says we can give you 5 dollars in store credit, because you dont have a receipt and we dont know how much you paid. And its such an old model thats the last price we can find. I asked can just buy a new lock he said no its discounted, the manager cane out said maybe we can find the receipt by the name, and he checked for 5 years back and still couldnt find it. Then I noticed on the cycle gear website the same lock was a praised at 7.99 and the manager agrees to give at 7.99, so then I grab a lock on the wall thats on sale for 50% normally 24.99 now its 12.49. It rings up as 16.99. I told him out the incorrect price he checks the promo sign indeed its supposed to be 12.49. So after the 12.49 and 7.99 store credit I paid 4.91 after taxes for a lock. I was pretty happy I felt like it was a pretty good deal. But the girl on the phone did misinformed me about not having to pay the difference, and they way these things are priced the key really shouldnt break in the first place. 25 dollar lock was the cheapest and went all the way up to 89.99 seriously. So the customer service was the reason I gave 4/5 stars but I didnt give the other star because of the fact the girl misinformed and key broke(like the metal part that goes into the lock sheared off the plastic part you hold on)

I just got a new bike and needed a jacket and maybe pants. Was excited to go there on my break from work. I walk in and no hi from any of the three people standing at the counter. I proceeded to walk around and inspect jackets, I tried 3 of them on and no one came to help me out. Another gentleman came into the store, got a hi and chatted with one of the guys there and I thought that was really interesting. After which, I decided they do not need my business and I started taking pictures of tags so I could order this stuff online. I left without a goodbye and I will never set foot in that store again. I do not care to support attitudes such as those on display in that store. I really hate bringing up the rACE card[Im an African-American male], but it was rather apparent that was what was going on. I came in from work dressed quite well with non-baggy jeans and a well fitted untucked button down and I got no service, none whatsoever. Not even a hello or a good bye. This was the first place that Ive gone to in the bay that was so backward, even Texas was better. I would not recommend this place to anyone, Id rather not see this place and the kind of attitude spread anywhere else. I rarely rarely ever write reviews, but I could not let this go unsaid. [I posted the same review on Yelp]

I had a bad experience trying to replace a tire while on a road trip. I stopped in to order a replacement and let them know I was tripping and needed the tire changed so I could carry on. They promised to call when the tire was in a change it in a jiffy. They failed to call me when the tire I ordered arrived (leaving me a day longer than I needed to be here). When I got to the store to get the tire replaced, I was surprised to find out they did not, in fact, have the equipment to change the tire: I had to get the rim off the bike first, and it was going to be a two day turnaround. I guess they thought I would be happy bringing my rim from my tent to their store by foot in my backpack, and then waiting around for days for them to do a one hour job. By contrast, Santa Clara Cycles had a tire on the shelf and booked me in to replace it the next day, no hassles, no waiting. I was amazed at how I had been sold a solution that was unworkable and expected to simply abide it.

Great place! Ive gone here for my bike gear and tune-up stuff and theyre always helpful. The return policy is generous as well: I bought a pair of very nice gloves that unfortunately didnt fit me well. Two months later I finally had time to go by for the return and they were totally fine with it. Only hard part has been that this particular location in Redwood City is fairly small so they sometimes dont have the size I need in-stock, but theyre always willing to check the SF and San Jose locations.

Same experience as Samuel about a year ago. Thought i would try in case that was a fake review by an angry customer. But no, comfirmed their rude and racist behavior. No help, no welcome. Caucasian couple walks in right after and right away gets a "hello how are you". Well they can stuff their cycle gear up their backsides. If you support racist businesses go shop here.

Ive been to this store a number of times...and each time have left satisfied. Today, Mike P helped me install a Sena in my helmet. Actually, he did 98% of the install. Did a great job too! Im big on customer service and they pass my test. Cheers!

The shop is relatively small with a limited selection, however, the sales associate was extremely knowledgeable and very forthcoming with information and recommendations that wouldnt necessarily result in a sale. I would definitely go back.

Cycle gear is a great store. They have a huge variety of product, good prices and a good return policy ( even on helmets). I love the redwood city location even though the store is small because their staff is awesome.

Good selection of stuff, staff had some good recommendations when I asked. Definitely seemed like it was social hour among the employees though - they were mostly concerned about their conversation and not the customers.

These guys all the time talking with each other and no attention to the costumers. My 3rd time there and the same situation. Different experience at San Francisco Store, much more helpful. Sad but true!
