I will have to say this Performance Bicycle Mountain View location has great customer service. I ordered a SE Lager City Bike from their website and had it delivered to this location. (One of the reason why I shipped it to the store and not home is because not only do they assemble bike professionally, they can also make sure the bike is in pristine condition before releasing it, and as you will see later this paid off immensely!) After two weeks, the order status on the website still hasnt changed and the bike still hasnt been delivered. So I called the store, and a lady named Cathy at the store picked up the phone. She was very friendly and looked into the situation. Turns out the MFG printed the shipping label but hadnt actually deliver the bike. Cathy called the headquarters customer service and had them call the MFG to find out what happened. It was another week before the MFG released the bike and Cathy kept me up to date throughout it all. She even called her higher up to make sure this was handled while she went on vacation for a couple days. Finally the bike arrived at the location! And was waiting to be built. The built took a couple of days, after which they told me they found there were some serious scratches on the frame and wheel, probably from shipping. So they voluntarily decided to call the headquarters and had them overnight another one. This time the bike arrived quickly, and the store had it built soon after. I picked up the bike yesterday and Im very happy with the whole experience. Even though the bike was delayed, I dont blame the store at all, in fact the did an incredible job providing top class customer service even in the face of a bad situation, I really respect them. Especially Cathy who helped me out throughout everything, though I didnt even meet her fact to face. The only downside I would urge the company to think about is the fact that my bike was "in transit" for two weeks and none of their systems picked it up. A two week non-delivered order should have rung a bell somewhere in their system or noticed by their employees. But Im not going to fault this on the store themselves. Finally, thank you Performance Bicycle! I will definitely come here next time Im in need of a bike related purchase.

One of the mechanics is quite nice and has done good work for me, but the rest of the place hasnt impressed me. Whenever I drop by looking for parts or service, I have real trouble catching the attention of the staff. They seem much more focused on selling bikes (and servicing bike theyve sold) than helping a walk-in buy small parts or get a wheel trued. But theyre the closest bike shop to me, so its usually the first place I hit when Im looking for small parts. But the last time I was there was the last straw. I was looking for a very common <$5 part (A star nut for a fork). The person at the front counter vaguely pointed me at the back service area. The guy in the service area immediately told me that said part should be up at the front counter. Front counter guy looked deeply confused, and sent me back to the service area again. Service area guy blew me off, telling me "if its not up front we dont have it". A third mechanic was hanging out in the shop, there was only one bike in the stand, and no one looked busy (I was literally the only customer in the store!), but none of them could spare 30 seconds to help a customer look for a part. Ridiculous. I rode to the next-nearest bike shop and was in and out with the part I needed in under two minutes, and Im probably not going back to Performance Bicycle in the future.

Ive had a mixed experience. Came one day to replace my stolen bike (...). Was looking for a middle range bike to commute. I went for a test ride - and ended up buying it. The next day, I took the bike for a longest ride (10 miles) and somewhat felt it was a bit too small. I returned to the shop, and talked to another employee. He told me right away I should have taken the XL one. So I exchanged it, at no cost, and went for another test ride. I didnt notice the handlebar was lose until I returned it. The store manager was quite pissed someone let me go out with it like that. Bottom line is, Im happy with my bike, but wish they were a bit more proactive and careful. On the plus side, they say they have "lifetime tuning" on all bikes. Also, if you get the membership (which should be covered by the discount you get when buying a bike) you can benefit from their reasonable prices online as well.

Went in late Sunday afternoon with a flat tire in my road bike. Its actually almost closing time, but Day not only fix my tire, but also to install a bike rack as I want to carry my bag on the rack. I dont know much about bike, and ask Day whether I could stand by to see how he fixed the flat tire. He patiently showed me every step and explained it clearly. Explaining everything actually takes him more time, and he stayed after closing time to help answer all my questions and fix everything. He also evaluated different racks and chose the one that works well with my bike, not only does it work, but it also looks good on my bike. I felt so warmed and lucky to have him there to help. The service is great, and Day is very knowledgeable about bike. Definitely go back when I purchase any thing or have any questions about bike!

I came here yesterday and I was looking for a rear axle because mine was bent, Ryan said they dont sell it in their store, but he can straiten it, so while waiting, I looked for a lock ring to take out my freewheel, because some of my bearings came out on the other side of my sprocket, I thought I would still be needing the the chain whip, but one of the guys who work there said that I dont need the chain whip when I show him the picture of my sprocket and explained to me the difference between a cassette and a freewheel. So Ryan came and straitened my axle and asked him how much I owe him, and he said, Its free. So all in all I saved maybe more than $20 from not buying the chain whip, the axle and the free service that Ryan did.Im a very happy customer.=)

The quality of the goods and clothing they sell is no doubt good, although the Performance name brand leaves a little bit to be desired. I thought they were well priced, until recently we went into a little mom & pop bike shop that had better regular prices than some of the sale prices at Performance. As for service... good luck. I had an appointment booked to get my bike cleaned/tuned. They told me to bring it in the day before, and it would be ready by the end of the next day. When I went to drop it off, they had no record of the appointment, and told me a) I could get it done at double the price - since it was a rush order and b) they dont do cleaning on a Monday, so Id have to book that for a future date. Uh... no. In fact, I wont be back.
