I cannot recommend this bike shop anymore. I did once. Its now crap. My second big purchase here (another new bike) got them feeling like they got me by the balls as a regular customer. As such, they did not make any effort. The new bike this time came with defective hydraulic brakes right out of the box. But Id decided to trust them to fix it. What a crappy fix! Im extremely disappointed by their workmanship. I have no confidence anymore after countless daily visits and impossibly lengthy, annoying, frustrating discussions. Its known in mechanical servicing that you could "overwork" a set of bolts, gaskets, diaphragms, etc. in removing, then tightening, then removing again over and over where you get diminishing returns. It could get dangerous because of fatigued materials. Then the brake unit itself could actually be a "lemon" straight from the factory. But they would NOT replace the entire unit. Instead, even the store owner proclaimed its their policy to "fix it only when it fails." This is AFTER overworking it like they did! Mechanical nincompoops! Its otherwise a new bike. It took tremendous pains to finally get them to replace the most critical bits, so now Im only riding with a replaced diaphragm and cap screw instead of a whole new brake unit. It still makes a bubbly noise, but at least its functioning okay. This is simply NOT confidence-inspiring. Its NOT as nice as my other new bike. This entire bicycle shop is no longer confidence-inspiring. The owners lousy attitude was the final straw. I will NOT return for my "free" 1yr servicing on either of my new bikes. Im better off doing my own tune-ups. Sure, noobs might get excited for their wall-to-wall bike accessories, but if youre planning on spending thousands of dollars (or just hundreds), you had better shop around for service quality. And if you find a bargain here, just pray you dont get a lemon. Theres much better service quality in the larger bike shops just a few miles south.

I just want to say that I have known Jeff at the Pedaler since he started the shop back in the lawn mower shop. He and his staff have always shown the most professional service of any bike shop in the bay area that I know of. The shop has a ton of bikes to choose from and everyone is so very friendly and they know their stuff. I send all my friends here to buy bikes and get their bikes worked on as well. The funny thing is I read a review from Jason in Oregon about the shop, saying that they shipped a bridgstone Mb4 to him and it was trashed and the weird thing is that Im the person who sold him the bike and all the Pedaler did was give me the box. This guy is so lame that he just assumed that because the box had the Pedalers name on it that they shipped it. There was nothing wrong with the bike and it was in good condition for a 20 year old bike, give me a break "the paint was chipped" the bike was over 20 years old did you think it was going to look brand new. If you thought the bike was damaged in shipping then you should have talked to ups because there was insurance on it and they would have paid the damage. He filed a claim with pay pal and lost E-bay and pay pal both found in favor of me and because of the description of the bike on the ad and the fact that he did not contact ups, he lost. Im sure that he flipped the bike for a profit and was just trying to work the system to scam more money. Im so sorry that he tried to drag an innocent shop into his warpped life. Well how would anyone be so lame as to accuse a place of wrong doing with out even having the proof that they were in the wrong. Reading his review is so funny because people like him do more harm than good and misuse google reviews by trying to hurt a small business like the Pedaler when they are the ones that are wrong. Check out the Pedaler they will take care of you everytime

Ive done business there for about four years and I dont recommend this store for service. While they have a great selection of bikes, the service department is just not competent. Three times in a row, Ive had major service done there and it wasnt performed right. The last time I replaced the handlebars and had bar end shifters installed. They forgot to tighten one of the shifters. Another time the shifting was completely out of adjustment. And the third time, the guy didnt perform the requested work because he thought I had clinchers instead of tubulars. When I told him that the wheel was a tubular, he still didnt believe me and had to go look at the wheel. Good thing there wasnt a tire on there or he would still be confused. (Dude, if I ask you to glue on a tubular, you should assume that they are tubular rims.) Buy stuff there, but take your rig elsewhere for service.

A unique blend of overstocked curiosity shop and rich bike culture. One of the most dense and widely ranging selection of bikes, on-site, in the Bay area. A longstanding core of skilled and devoted staff effectively support a broad palate of cycling interests. It all comes from the top. Owner Jeff is a bright and resourceful man who works hard to find great prices through special purchases. The resulting stock not only covers the basics but contains a unique variety of great value: frames, wheels and all sorts of overstock items. The shop is a magnet for those of use who love to peruse and sift and soak up the bike culture. The Pedler supports many community groups including the Bicycle Trails Council of the East Bay and is a founding and current sponsor of the highly successful NorCal High School Cycling League.

I paid $40 to this shop to have a vintage bicycle packaged, upon arrival the bike was found to have just been thrown in the box upside-down with the wheels out, thats it. There was absolutely ZERO care taken to box this bike, no zip ties, no packaging at all. Needless to say the bike is quite damaged, vintage rear derailleur is ruined, the fork is bent, a rear dropout is bent, the frame downtube is dented and the paint is chipped from the freewheel jamming openly into the frame. The pedals and QR were just thrown in the box. This was completely un-professional, you just ruined a vintage Bridgestone mountain bike, do you just have no respect for the past? Thanks for nothing, BEWARE of these people handling anything of value.

I love this place. They took great care of me as I am a bit new to the bike world. There are so many bike shops nearby in Berkeley that I didnt think I should have to leave the town to find what I wanted. Sadly this was not true. Im so glad I walked into Jeffs place. The selection was awesome, the place is a bike shop, not a show room. They arent pushing the best most expensive bikes at you, just trying to figure out what youll really be happy on. I was able to pick and choose exactly what I wanted for a better price than I would have spent at the other places for a lot less bike. The extra fitting/service is an unexpected bonus too. By far my best experience in a bike shop.
