Unpleasant experience with Harley Davidson showroom - Big question (Why showroom need my SSN?) On May 23rd, I went to the Desert Wind Harley Davidson showroom (Mesa, AZ) to test drive the 2016 Dyna Switchback. I talked to a very professional young sales person, and I test drove the motorcycle that day. After the test drive, I told him and his manager that I will be coming the next day with my wife to test drive again to see how it feels riding together. When I talked about the price, he confirmed it will be as per the internet price. So on May 24th, we went to the showroom. The person I spoke to on the 23rd was not in, so I met with another other sales person. The moment we met this sales person, we felt that this day was not going to be as smooth and nice as the day before. In short, we both immediately realized that this sales person had a bad attitude, and we did not feel comfortable talking with him. His behavior was not only unprofessional but unfriendly. In fact, we felt that he did not want us to be there. It was strange, and we felt like he didnt want us to look at the Switchback, let along test drive it. And every time that we asked him a question, especially when we questioned why he was asking us for information that other HD showrooms never asked us for, he would repeatedly say one of two things: 1) "Why are we being so difficult?" and 2) "Maybe the other Harley showrooms are not doing their job properly." In addition to that, (here is my main concern) when we asked for a pricing estimate of the motorcycle, he DEMANDED that we give our Social Security Number. When we asked why he needed an SSN in order to give us a price for the bike, he said that this is his daily job and he has to ask every customer to give the SSN in order to give the price. When we declined to give the SSN (because, as victims of identity theft, we saw no logical reason to do so), he proceeded to tell us that we are the first people hes ever worked with who do not want to share their SSN, and then he repeated his "Why we are so difficult? I dont understand why youre being so difficult" rant. Now since they have my driver license copy, I worry that they may misuse it. I am going to monitor my credit report to ensure that there is no identity theft, and if there is any, then the first thing I am going to do is to go to the police station and report about this incident. Now, perhaps the most important thing about this experience is that for the last couple of days (even before May 23rd), the internet was listing the price of the bike as $15,654 (refer to attachment). This same price is also what was listed before we arrived at the showroom on the 24th. However, during our visit, they tried to quote us a higher price, telling us that they were giving us a "great deal." It was so ridiculous, and we felt that they were trying to make fools of us. After we left, we looked up the bike again online, and they had increased the price to $17,994! That is not only annoying, but sneaky. This is the worst experience we have ever had at a Harley Davidson showroom. I was going to buy my first Harley motorcycle, and I was so happy about it. I was very mush inclined to Harley Davidson because it is known as a PRIDE OF AMERICA, but now it feels that they just cheat people and have no respect for the customer. Now I think I should be considering a Honda or Triumph or Indian motorcycle. Harley Davidson seems to be attracting customers by putting a low price online, and then the moment someone walks in to look at it, they think "Oh, these customers want this motorcycle so now is the right time to bring it back up to the original price" and then give a "discount" thats nowhere close to the internet price. Is that how Harley is going to sell all their motorcycles? This is pathetic customer service.

This place is full of great people that will bend over backwards to sell you something. On the flip side this place is also full of people that after they have your money will do little for the costumer. In May of 2013 I purchased my 1st Harley form Chandler HD competitor Chester’s HD in Mesa. The bike was beautiful complete with all the bells and whistles (exhaust, baker 7 speed, apes, k&n and power commander). Even better yet, was the dealer offered what was advertised and sold as an extended warranty that covered all the “extra bells and whistles” one catch I would have to pay a small $50 deductible every time to took the bike in. Well after about 2 weeks of owning my new bike the gremlins started to appear. Well I’m sorry to report HD fan’s if you purchased the “extended covers everything warranty plan” it doesn’t cover much. About 1 1/2 years ago Chandler HD started showing up at my work where we have local vendors bring their products one site to advertise to the employee’s what they have to offer. I meet with Chandler HD rep and shared my story and all the troubles I had dealing with Chester’s HD with my purchase. He told me that I could take the bike to any HD dealer for warranty work and assured me that if I gave his shop the opportunity his service department would get my bike moving in the right direction and stop marking her territory. Well I took the Chandler HD rep up on his offer and back in 2014 I began taking my bike to Chandler HD. I would like to give you all the hope that Chandler HD sales rep was going to make good on what he was out selling during his visits local businesses. But truth be told my bike is back in the shop waiting and the phone calls with excuses is starting to pile up again just like the bill the stacks up way past the $50 deductible. Below is the list of times I have taken what was going to be the freedom on 2 wheels into Chester’s 1-5 and Chandler HD 6-? During my last 23 months of owning the bike 3 of those months have been visiting either Chandler HD or Chester’s HD service department. 1. Rear tire that separated 2. Bike ran rich smelt like fuel was running out of the tail pipe 3. Oil leak primary 4. Oil leak shift leaver 5. Exhaust tip and baffle fell off the bike while going down the Loop 202 6. Oil leak and main bearing 7. Oil leak tranny 8. Oil leak fork seal / brakes 9. Bike backfires through air cleaner Oil leak tranny main bearing Oil leak clutch cable 10. Bike backfires through air cleaner , Oil light on and died on Glendale and Loop 101 during bike week.

Chesters Harley Davidson in Mesa Arizona is sure making a name for itself among all my biker friends. None of them will ever have anything to do with them again...in fact, they will go out of their way to avoid having to because of my experience...I have been flat out cheated, lied to, and called a liar by these care free worthless poser a-holes. The customer service is non existant and the service flat out sucks! might as well be thugs running the joint, as this is the attitude I receive from them on every occassion, other than the initial sale. I have a 2013 Dyna Wide Glide FXDWG that is leaking oil and pitching a Vin Error; started after my 10,000 mile service with them. When I took it in for warranty service, I was told the oil leak was fixed and no Vinerror existed after they kept the bike for over a week and didnt even bother to call me when the bike was supposedly finished. When I called for a report they told meoh yeah its done can we set up a time to deliver it? so, I get the bike the next day only to find it still leaking oil and pitching the vinerror. When I called and spoke to the service manager ,John Yardley, and was told "no way!" I checked it myself and that it was not leaking oil and they never got the Vinerror while it was there, even though the tac was rolled over to the mileage odometer, like it does everyday when I start it and receive the said error.. So I drove that B right on in and pointed out the drop of oil hanging from the primary housing mounting bolt. I was then given a song and dance about how theyll make it right, and here I am another week into waiting for more BS, when I decide to call them for a report. I wrote a letter to HD corporate, The BBB, and am planning on letting HD Finance know their loan is now a lame duck, as I am disgusted with this sanctioned robbery and insultive behavior. If I wanted to get robbed and beat down I would just go back to the Chicago hood I grew up in...I dont expect this crap from a multinational corporation...or should I? Marlon you are the nicest cat there, and Im sorry, but your co-workers are a-hole liars and deserve their mud pushed. Sincerely Ed Grainger
