Beware of inexperienced sales associates - one opened a credit card in my name without my approval! My girlfriend, her family and I went in to buy her mom a b-day present. The item she wanted ( a North Face jacket) was a part of the annual Anniversary Pre-Sale, whose items are only available for purchase to those that have a Nordstrom credit or debit card. I offered to sign up for a Nordstrom Debit card so that we could purchase an item. First off - I made it VERY clear that I wanted a debit. The associate even said I did. She asked me the questions on the application one by one and then presented me with an approval form for me to sign. As I was scanning it I noticed that it said "credit card" in a few places. I looked up to ask the associate why it said that and she said "oh oops I accidentally signed you up for a credit card". I asked her to switch to debit to which she replied "I already submitted the application". !!!! EXCUSE ME!? I had not even given you the authorization to do so! I did not sign the approval form and you already took financial action in my name?! This was not a slight blunder! At this point, the application had been sent to the Nordstrom bank and a hard credit check was conducted in my name. This affects my credit score negatively for upwards of two years, during which I am very likely to buy a car! I was fuurious and all that the customer service ppl offered to do was have me come back and see the store manager the following morning. At this point I figured I would come back the next morning to deal with the credit card situation and just wanted to purchase the jacket so that my gf and her family wouldnt have to wait longer. I asked if I may please purchase the jacket without having to re-sign up for the debit card, because of this terrible mistake that was just made. The sales associates said I couldnt. Seriously?! You just opened a credit line in my name without my consent! I could sue Nordstrom if I wanted to! They continued to claim that there was nothing they could do... "Ok," I said "can I just buy the jacket at full price - I dont care about the $40 savings anymore". Their response? No you may not. Are you f-ing kidding me? You wouldnt let me buy an item at full price after what just happened? Literally one of the most asinine things Ive ever heard. We left the store furious at the pure idiocy of the situation. I came back the next morning to speak with the store manager, Todd Buntin. The guy comes out with the jacket in hand, cheesin. I figure that hell offer me a deeper discount or something because of what happened the night before. Instead he just goes - "You will have to sign up for a debit or credit card to buy this jacket." I stood there, speechless. Suffice it to say I will no longer shop at Nordstrom. Todd, I suggest you re-evaluate your store policies.

NOTE: My review is only reflective of the Mens departments. Im not always impressed with the selections that they have in The Rail, but once in a while Ill spot a couple of cute shirts and pants that are on the opposite end of the douche bag spectrum. Depending on which sales associate helps you, the shopping experience can be either pleasant or a pain. I recommend finding those veteran stylists and sticking to them. Since sales are commissioned, getting stuck with that seasonal employee helping you out can be annoying because they probably have terrible fashion sense and just care about selling you crap. The mens shoe selection is always great, especially for casual shoes. The guys that work in the shoe department are super helpful and in my opinion the best guys to work with when shopping at this Nordstrom. The mens fragrance section can be a hit or miss. Sometimes they dont have certain colognes in stock that are pretty standard to other department stores, which I find odd. Overall, theres no other place I prefer to shop as my first stop on shopping trips than this Nordstrom. Also, if you parked in the Pacific Place parking garage and spend at least $25 in Nordstrom, dont forget to get your ticket validated by the concierge on the 2nd floor.

My first time shopping at Nordstrom downtown was really horrible. Twice I tried to buy a pair of shoes but both times I was practically invisible to the sales people. I literally stood in the middle of the room with the shoe in hand and NO ONE helped me. It was not even busy for goodness sakes!!! I would try to make eye contact with no success or they would just pass me by. Anyway...aside from the uneccesary elitism and preferential customer service, (they are racist), I like some of their clothing and handbags. I just wish they would be BETTER in customer service. They do only like white people and SOME Asians only. The Asians they like are the "I like to pretend I have money" ones with the trendy everything. Oh and be careful when ordering online. I bought A MARC JACOBS handbag and it arrived looking second hand and the tag was in one of the pockets unattached! WTF how am I to return it looking like I took off the tag already?? I will for sure bring a white friend for more expedient service. The food is fantastic though! Try the artichoke salad yum!

Something for everyone! Really - dont be put off by the sometimes really odd (and expensive) fashion displays in the windows. I like to think of it as wearable art in a fancy gallery that one can admire and then actually purchase something useful and affordable in the gallery gift shop. Seriously though, they have everything from VERY affordable every-day wear to the most gorgeous designer things. BAR - dont want to wait while your loved-one tries on 16 pairs of jeans? Go have a drink at the bar on the second floor! FREE PERSONAL STYLING - you can make appointments of various length with their in-house stylists free and they will help you with anything you need. My experience with them has been fantastic. They really listen to your needs and budget. Restaurant - get hungry and cant try on anything more until you eat? They have a fantastic cafe on the top floor. Coffee shop - just need a quick pick me up while shopping? They have a great coffee bar on the lower level. Seriously - this place is amazing.

Tuesday I was making arrangements to attend an interview when a series of mis-haps occurred which required me to find replacement shoes Im fiercely loyal to Mephisto (dress shoes) which are difficult to find. Our local Salt Lake City Nordstrom does not stock the style I wear. Upon locating the nearest store I retrieved the number to call and was put into contact with Justin at 1:56pm Justin Canizarro was amazing he very quickly ensured we had the right shoe and rushed it to be shipped (overnight) I have to give him high praises for the level of communication Justin has in addition to his understanding of products and ability to work with someone as fast paced and stressed as I was. He additionally followed up when the item had shipped which I was extremely grateful for and relieved a great deal of stress I had.... Thank you! Although this all occurred over the phone If Justin represents the level of competency, and customer service I would definitely frequent this Nordstrom if I lived in Seattle.
