Lucky 13 is a solid and diverse "street" shop that has been around for 10+ years and are capable of doing everything from custom and portraiture to coverups.I have have had work done by several tattooers there including those that have received poor reviews on this page. I can tell you that their work is NOT poor and that they follow correct universal precautions, use proper sterilization technique and care about the work they do. I think a big problem is with the customers. As a customer I have seen men and women in that shop that do not know what the difference is between a moth and a butterfly, cheetah spots and leopard spots or parts of their own body. I heard a woman try to reference her clitoris and she kept calling it her "clik". So many customers walk in on impulse with a gaggle of their friends and ask "Can I get a sleeve for $100?", "What can I get for $50", or they say "I want something unique, like me", but they whip out their cell phone and pull up pictures from Pinterest and insist that they must have the same exact tattoo in the same place as the picture on the Internet. (Imagine having that same conversation 50 times a day....you werent the first person that got that cute feather tattoo exploding into birds, or stars or whatever that day...) I have heard countless times from various artists advising against BAD DECISIONS from CUSTOMERS and the response is "I dont care I want it, can you do it for less money?" I have heard artists give their aftercare instructions and have watched customers immediately disregard them. To be fair sometimes these guys use foul language, have a twisted sense of humor and it can come off as unprofessional; but at the same time they need to have a way to let off steam when trying to exercise patience with people that lack basic communication skills. If you want a tattoo and you want to be treated seriously make sure you have the day off, take a shower, leave your friends and/or your children at home, grab your government issued photo ID, withdraw cash from the bank and be prepared to discuss your ideas in a clear manner and accept the advice that the professional is giving you. I think the aforementioned should be taken into consideration when reading any negative review, because no customer likes to be told something that they dont want to hear, even if it is the truth....and I think all of us have been there at some point. My current favorites are Bob Knox and Travis Wasko because they have no problem telling me "No".

I have been Tattooed all over the country. I first went to Lucky 13 when there was just the owner and 2 other artists. They were just a little shop in a big market. I had looked at what the other shops in Richmond did and had some art work done at a few. Brad and Jeremy and lance over the next 5 months did over 50 grand of Tattoos on me , my family and most of the construction workers that were with us up there .They did the best art work and piercings I /we ever had done. I have been Tattooed in about 50 different shops all over this country and they are in the top 2 of shops. I/ we did not need no touch ups. all are piercings healed fine and the place was clean as an operating room. They were outgoing and friendly .Brad, lance, Brian all became like family. I have no problem with saying they are one of the best shops in the southeast. Now I see a lot of bitching and I am sure everyone has their own take on how they were treated. I am sure Brad is making sure those that work there are following all health laws and are exceeding them. As for the quality of the tattooists they have I can only say the ones that have done work on me or my friends and family have done an awesome job. I will assume that if an artists work is not up to par they will not be there long as word will get around .This is a shop I have sent 100s too and have never had one person say a single word bad about them. I have drove from my Home in south Carolina to there to get tattooed there. The only other shop in the south I love is California Tattooing in Savanna Ga.If you have such an issue with something at the shop get in touch with the owner and show him what the problem is. I was there when they were the little shop that was hanging in and they did the best art work and piercing in Va. I am sure Brad remembers how hard it was to build to get where they are today and I know he stills strives to that high standard. My name is Mike Driscoll I am from Moncks Corner SC. And I will stand by this shop as one of the best tn the south east states. If you have an issue post your name and location not just hiding . If you have a real issue go see the owner he will take care of it and correct it. If you feel you were treated bad or disrespected again get in contact with the owner as he busted his ass to build this shop into the best and he will fix and address your issues. But if you just want to complain on the net and hide then please shut the hell up.

I went here on my birthday to get a tattoo I had been wanting for years. The day before my birthday I stopped by and talked to Travis Wasko who assured me he could execute what I wanted. I showed him a picture on my cell phone. He told me to come back at 1 the following day. I came in at 1 very excited and ended up waiting about an hour (this should have been my first sign). Let me say Travis was pleasant however he seemed more interested in trying to free hand the tattoo as oppose to drawing it and marking it on me first(mistake #2). The tattoo is on my thigh and rather large so it’s not something I can watch him do as he goes I had to lay down. I feel as though Travis decided what he thought would look good and did that as oppose to what I requested and showed him in the picture. I basically paid $360 plus 2 atm fees ( I knew this was overpriced but was expecting quality so I didn’t care) for a tattoo with only 2 colors that looks like a 5th grader drew it. Travis pressed so hard as well that the pain during and healing after was crazy (I have many other tattoos). I went back to the shop the next day to complain no Travis and the day after that no Travis. After speaking with the manager and Travis I ended up going back in the shop about 6 weeks later and Travis did attempt to fix the tattoo. I went thru another painful healing process. It looks better then in did originally however the quality is still poor and it is not what I wanted. I am now in the process of finding a tattoo artist willing to help me plan and figure out how to how to cover up such a large tattoo. I was very disappointed in to quality of the tattoo; it doesn’t look like a professional tattoo artist did it. I have spent the summer trying to hide this tattoo and wanted to write this post to let people know DO NOT LET Travis Wasko tattoo you. Also I am from out of state and this is my first tattoo in Richmond I went to this shop because I heard they had good artists for me it’s not about the money I paid and will have to pay to correct it’s about the quality. They may have talented artists but Travis Wasko isn’t one of them. I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy.
