This is the Safeway that anchored Rose Hill Shopping Center. It now stands where the Grants department store used to be for years and originally was located where Tuesday Morning and Dollar Tree now sit. Its always been a tried and true kind of a store, not a fancy latte type of a place. It catered to hard-working middle class folks and was THE grocery store for the area years before anyone thought to build a "Kingstowne". That it stands these almost 60 years, along with the shopping center, is a good thing. Drug Fair was the other anchor and its long gone to history, replaced by generic, though useful CVS. I hope the shopping center, itself an anchor in the community, stands for years to come, and though maybe not the best or most fancy of the Safeways in the area, I hope this one continues to slog though, and perhaps freshen its produce section. ;)

A Kitsch Is Just a Kitsch

I give it two because the employees seem nice. I avoid this store when I can. I live right around the corner so it is really convenient, but that all goes out the window, when they often do not even have the basics in stock like---MILK. And more often than not something I purchase, is spoiled. Tonight was no different, got organic potatoes for stew, opened them up and they were bright green!! Come on!! $5.95 for 3lbs of potatoes and they are green! Green potatoes are dangerous. Come on Safeway!!

I shop here more for convenience then anything else. Its under a mile from my home. Its clean, but old and tired looking. Their produce is depressing and it seems they rarely have any fruit other then bananas that are enticing and fresh to look at. I dont know if they bring in old cheap fruits and vegetables or whether they dont sell and simply begin to go bad. They have no bakery here so dont expect fresh baked goods.

Mangment service was horrible, everyone including the manager near to the managers office know that I Im waiting for about 20 minutes to talk to the manager to get one thing replace or exchange, after waiting for that long, the manager came and ask if I need help, after explaining my situation I find out that I dont need wait there I could have just gone to the cashier. Really?

This isnt the Safeway you want to go to. Not always well stocked and its very, very short staffed. Theres always a line and the managers will ignore it even if theres only one register open. The employee at the register will do everything they can to get the line going quickly, but theres just too many people shopping and no self check option.

Clean and friendly. Seems to be an original old-neighborhood store that has survived in the age of gourmet or super discounts. I was able to call ahead in the morning with a custom meat order and picked it up at noon with no problem. I appreciate the convenience.

Closest to my house and has the necessities. Grocery stores in Kingstowne are far better but have the traffic. Rose Hill is due for a facelift but certainly nothing bad.

I come here often and no matter what day and time, they never have more than 3 checkout lanes running. The checkers all seem to take their sweet time too.

Small, local shop. Workers are nice, manager sucked when asked for assistance. Not much in this store. Sort of clean. But junky looking.

Decent for picking up a few things. Checkout can be slow. Not as well stocked or staffed as the supermarkets in Kingstowne.

Small, limited items. No onsite bakery or butcher. Lines are always really long. Other than that it is clean and friendly.
