Although Im an REI member, I shop there infrequently and must admit at times have felt like the customer service folks are doing me a favor by helping me in the store. I suppose its a bit of a snob factor. They obviously have high quality (and high priced) products, but the snob factor really has kept me at bay. Plenty of other outdoor retailer options in SLC that care whether you shop there or not. Last week, I was converted to REI forever...all my previous mediocre customer service experiences were lost and forgotten. I needed some help configuring a Yakima bike rack I bought from a friend and REIs Michelle treated me like family (shes not, by the way:). Michelle stuck with me until we had the rack completely figured out...new feet (to fit my car), replacement core locks/keys, placement instructions for installation on my car, tips for long-term maintenance, etc. Thank you Michelle. You forever changed the way I view REI. Good work!

This place has its ups and downs; a quality retailer should only have ups. The selection here is decent, although not as extensive as one would expect from a location in a major city. The employees are also hit or miss. Some of them are really great (when you can find them), but others are extremely rude to customers. A man in customer service acted extremely perturbed when I asked to exchange a pair of shoes that were in the wrong size (because they were not resellable since I had worn them once for all of fifteen minutes) and then had the gall to state that my exchanging four pairs of shoes over a five year period was "suspicious" despite there being documented defects in the shoes. I understand that some people abuse REIs return policy, but that was unnecessary. I will not likely be returning to this REI.

I avoid shopping. Some people love it, but not me. Walking into REI, however, is always fun. I love the outdoors, and if you must go shopping, this is the place for a person like me to feel at home. Its a good-sized store full of all kinds of useful outdoor gear. The downside is that I always leave having purchased more things than I went there to get. If youre looking for guns, ammunition, cammo and 4-wheeler gear, this might not be quite the store for you. If youre like me, however, and spend most of your time outdoors appreciating nature without feeling a need to shoot at it, REI is a great store thats owned by a great company.

Very rude customer service. We asked an older flamboyant man in his mid forties with a elbow tattoo for help with finding a inexpensive thermal set for snowboarding. He seemed like he was already irritated that we were even talking to him like we were beneath him and treated us like we couldnt afford the thermals since we asked for the ones that were similar to hanes. I was only looking for a pair for snowboarding not trying to set a fashion trend. Its amazing a place with this poor of customer service is still in business. If you hate your job find a new one dont take it out on your customers. Never going back.

Worse customer service ever. Staff pays little attention to customers and when this is brought up to management they say sorry but then gave excuses. When I compared their poor customer service to Sears and described how we were ignored and not helped by staff. When I pointed out their ineptitude and complained for the 1200 plus I spend a season at REI, sure its small numbers but I see no reason to shop with them. Then the Manager got "offended" and says I really hope you dont shop here. Really?!?!?!?!?!? Thats what you do? Screw the customers if they dont like our failure?

On May 13,2017 I came to buy some shoes at REI on 3300 S Salt Lake City. A guy named Jeremy in shoe department was extremely rude. He needs to learn how to treat REI customers. i think he has bipolar he was screaming shouting at another customers as well .I couldnt even ask a question about shoes and sizes usually REI workers very helpful but this guy is so rude and I think he had too much coffee he was shaking and yelling to everyone. PLEASE REI MANAGMENT TRAIN YOUR EMPLOYEES PROPERLY THANK YOU !!!

Excellent product mix. Reasonable prices. Super-helpful, knowledgeable staff. Clean, easy to navigate store. Great warranty policy on products purchased from REI. One thing to know: If you arent already, you will get pressured from salespeople to become an REI co-op member (which costs a fee, but earns you a dividend whenever you make purchases). If Im shopping something I need to go to the store and physically see, I choose REI over every other retail competitor.

My wife and I tried to pick up a few chocolate bars from this REI for our motherinlaw that she paid for over the phone and were told by a manager that because of the high rate of fraud at REI that we would not be able to do so with just a picture ID. No other stores that I have worked with have had such strange and frustrating policy. The worst part of our experience was being patronized by the store manager when explaining that we disagreed with her.

This REI is fantastic. The Bike team are superb and have helped me a lot with a bike I purchased from them a couple months ago. Sadly the bike has had a number of issues with it (some my own doing) and they have gone above and beyond to help me out - and at no extra cost. They take a genuine interest in their customers. They have a great range of products too. Great return policy and membership perks. Great shop! Much better than their Sandy store

I absolutely love REI. I went in to browse one day and pick up a few things. I am a camping, hiking, and survival enthusiast and I spent two hours there just wishing I had a couple thousand dollars because I saw so much I could use. The staff there is great, I believe I was asked at least 6 times if I needed assistance with anything. They have a A+ return policy. I could not be happier with a recreation store. REI is it for me.

The most overpriced chain in existence. If your not smart enough to buy elsewhere then u deserve to overpay. Example: Exact same North face tent: Dicks 279, Amazon 249, rei 749. Water purifier: local shops 40, Amazon 30 (new), rei 90! Not to mention all the other gear I purchase for my 3 month trips. Sorry rei (Im a lifelong member too) either keep up or move on. Look forward to seeing you compete or close. Do or do not, etc.

Went in to find a 10.0 L SR Dramedary, maps, and a book. I wore my REI Jacket and it had a sizeabke rip with lost fabric. Elise, noticed the eye sore and quickly came over and helped. She taped it up for me and gave me some good advice. She was very friendly, as with the lady up front who sold me the items. Definitely recommend and REI, particularity this location, and particularly Elise as a retail professional.

only been there once, to buy a tent, and the dude helping me was totally condescending. I thought it was just to me since im a rookie and dont know the difference between tents nor do i really care, but when another employee there asked him a question and he was a complete dick to that person as well i realize this person probably has problems with life. SO i said thanks for the help and left
