I had a similar experience to the previous reviewer. I also love used book stores and will support local businesses when I can. However, when local businesses are run by assholes, then you have little to redeem for the experience. The book selection was ok. I appreciated some rare finds and recognized some pieces I have in my own collection. However, the store appeared more suitable for collectors rather than avid readers. Their selection is a bit sparse and unorganized. The whole store was filled with boxes and looked as though the owner had just moved in. I asked if he had, to which he replied, "psh...30 years ago." I no longer felt welcome in the store. I didnt want to be rude and just leave, but luckily my phone rang and provided an excuse to step outside. At that point the owner asked for his coupon back. I cant say that I was surprised. At that point I just wanted to get out and not come back. Im sad to say that my experience was overall very unpleasant, but I cant think of one positive quality that outshines the bad ones. I do not recommend this store to anyone looking for a good read. This store is for those who enjoy dealing with crotchety old men

I am somewhat confused. Do the people who give bad reviews want the books priced at a quarter of the original 1900 cost? Also, what is the problem with the owner asking people who do not purchase anything to return the coupon? Its a small business with a hand written coupon. Is the owner supposed to spend all day drawing out coupons? Are these individuals collectors of coupons or books. Hey I get it some people are strange, but we cant go around judging each others idiosyncrasies. He is just as strange as coupon collectors or people coming into a highly cultivated book store and looking for a variety of fashion magazines at a discount price. The owner probably thinks I am strange, but he doesnt go around posting bad comments about me, so lets just stick to business. He just offers a nice selection of quality books at a decent price.

I just dont quite get the pricing of some of these books. The owner is under the impression that just because its a first edition a book is somehow a collectible antique and so it justifies a markup. Like another commenter I too think his history section is too pricey. Ive actually seen some of these titles Ive seen at thrift stores for way way less. I did buy several books only because I determined that I wasnt coming back. Ill stick to Half Price Books as having much more competitive prices. He knows this thats why he has a no phone use policy in his store. The owner was friendly and even offering suggestiond in how I could find books that I was looking for but that he didnt have. So I give this place anywhere from a 1.5 to 2 stars.

This place is so amazing. I love how messy it is. It has like a family owned business feel. The owner was amazing too. He was so nice to my son and me. At first when i walked in he handed me a coupon and then asked if I was just killing time or was i going to buy anything. I didnt get butt hurt and I laughed and said I wasnt wasting time and I toke his coupon out of his hand. I stud my ground with him. So then his attitude changed and asked if I needed a particular book and if I needed help finding a certain area.. He was amazing after that. I mean i get it. My family owns a small business. So I know how annoying customers can be

I ran into this place one day heading to River Oaks area. Its a tiny bookstore packed (PACKED) with books. Its run by a quirky and very kind old man. I love used books, and he has a great collection in all sorts of categories including classics, plays, poetry, politics, geography, psychology, history, and fiction. He has a junior readers section for children too. And he offers a discount card as well. He also has many first editions and really old versions of books. Pay him a visit and buy something—its a great little treasure.

I just called this place to see if they had a book I was searching for. The gentleman who answered the phone was so HELPFUL and NICE! Although I was looking for a classroom text book that he didnt carry, he thanked me for calling, thanked me for trying out his business!!! He asked if he could help me find anything else!! Such a nice man! Next time I am in need of any kind of book I will be at his place first!! Just want to say that more companies should treat people like this over the phone!

This bookshop is an interesting little place. It has a lot of charm and unique books. I only say "like" because the guy who runs it can get a little sassy with you sometimes. And there really isnt any organization. Its hard trying to find a particular author or title. But if you like eccentric charm I would go here. They have rare books here too and in really good condition most of the time. But be warned, the owner can talk your ear off and sometimes be a little abrasive.

Very quaint and organized place! I could have wandered around there for hours! Larry was very professional and charming and helped me out on some books for my classroom. I will definitely be returning here soon!!! Definitely a place to bring your business! By the way, the more expensive books were all first edition and author their signed, not overpriced in my opinion.

Owner was very friendly and gave me a coupon upon entering. Books are definitely old and I guess you could say quite niche in topics. Theres certainly an order to his madness haha but asides from that, lots of interesting things to see. Some of those books date back to the 1600s! Its very cool, would definitely recommend!

I have been coming to this Comic Book location for many years now and it is always a great honor in doing so. Its always exciting when you find the Comic Books that you are looking for that you need to complete your collections. Thank you so much for staying open over the years and for coming through for me,

Many books are overpriced. The store should be named "4x" instead of "1/4". The manager was invasive of my personal space and disrespectful. He was more concerned with his precious coupon than satisfying his customers. He will never get my business.

Best bookstore in Houston! They always have a great selection, and helpful staff. I wish they were closer, but every time I visit, its worth the trip.

Whatever the occasion, getting lost in this bookshop for a day is worth it, I always leave feeling more intelligent than when I arrived.
