They have a good selection of books but dont sell your books to them. I brought in about 35 books to sell. The books were on various subjects including best selling novels, all in mint condition and some of them cost $40 or more new. Basically you turn in your books at a counter, they go through them and call out your name when they are ready to make you an "offer". After my name was called, I went back to the counter to find a small number of my books, around six, had been chosen to purchase. For these six books which included expensive high end art books, I was offered a paltry six dollars, which comes out to a dollar a book. I was told I could just leave the other twentynine books they werent going to purchase and they would "dispose" of them for me. Believe me the books they didnt want were not trash, but included a mint condition, hard back copy of the complete works of Jane Austen. I was in total shock by the offer and the fact they didnt want most of the books. Now Im wondering if they actually disposed of the books they didnt buy from me, or if this is a ploy they use in order to avoid paying for all the books. When it was my friends turn, she got the same line, only getting a small sum of money for several books. I honestly think they realize people dont want to schlep back home the books they wont buy so Half Price Books ends up with free donated books to sell, only paying out a fraction for the books. Dont think I will ever shop here and I will most certainly not sell books here again. Also, the clerks here are not friendly and have a bit of an attitude.

Go here pretty often and always find something interesting to look at. Their womens bathrooms are usually messy, though, and sometimes the locks will get stuck. (I actually tore my skin on it once.) Additonally, the prices on their CDs can be off. Sometimes youll find a $6 CD in the regular section and end up finding the same one in the clearance section for $2. The same day. Oftentimes the CDs are priced too high, like $10, even though the case is broken. I wish the prices were more reasonable... people just wont pay very much for a CD anymore.

Good selection and okay pricing but their customer service of the buy counter needs work. Brought in a limited edition game set that the person at the counter told me was missing the game where if they researched the set, they would have seen the steel book is an empty bonus. When I mentioned that so they could check to see if I was right, the buyer said "I dont have time for that." Well, if you dont have time to do a little research but can have an attitude when Im trying to help you, then I dont have time to shop at your store.

Half price books is half price books... youve been to one, youve pretty much been to them all. I would rate it 4 or 5 because they have wifi and places to sit and read. However, as a college student looking for textbooks, you might find some from the 80s or 90s, but otherwise, current selection sucks and is anything but half price. If youre into casual reading then this is the place to go. Students, better luck at amazon or chegg.

This is a good place to find used books, records, and even VHS! BUT.... selling to them is not really ideal. Ive only ever gotten $0.25 per book, and once I tried to sell them one of my video games. They offered me $0.50 for it and had the same thing in the game case marked at $60. Little bit of a sham, but you can still find good deals when they put out their coupons.

A very nice place to buy manga, books, textbooks, etc. for cheap. All the staff there is nice and I go there more than I go to Barnes and Noble not only for the price, but for what is in stock there. ~ ty for the OPM volume!

Great selection, great prices..staff is a bit aloof but I cant help but be happy every time I walk by the store and see the owners reading...these people have a serious love of books and their collection is quite diverse.

I dont think half price books is the way to go if your trying to get money from your books. However if youre buying, its a great location with a good selection. Its a lot bigger than any other locations in Houston.

If you still enjoy picking up and reading a good book, it doesnt get much better as far as price. They also buy books but I found the staff is not helpful and even grumpy on more than one occasion.

I think the guy purposely gave me the lowest price he could think of for a book that is not only still in use by colleges but is also a very expensive book. I will not be selling here again.

Half price books doesnt mean half price. Everything is to high, the service sucks. No one wants to help you find anything they just want your money and for you to get out there store.

I really like this Half Price Books. The employees are very helpful and the store is very quiet and peaceful. They have a nice selection of manga and comics and some good games too.
