We have purchased a total of three cars from this Carmax. It had been a good experience. This is the story about the last car for our son. Our son was out of high school and preparing to go to college. He and my wife (cosigner) purchased a car from Carmax as we did two times previously. We elected to purchase GAP insurance. The payments were made by our son as he wanted this car to be "his". He then went to school at SHSU and he was having some difficulty making a payment. We called Carmax and asked it we could skip a payment and put it on the back of the note. They said that was fine, sent the paperwork and we sent it back. Our son was killed in an auto accident and the car was totaled in August 2016. The insurance company paid their portion and the GAP was supposed to cover the rest. Well, guess what. The GAP coverage, sold by Carmax told us that since we extended a payment... the GAP coverage was NO LONGER IN-FORCE and we would need to pay the difference on an upside down car. WHAT??? To add insult to injury, at one point at the first of November, we were told we would get a approx $179.00 refund from GAP and to call them back in a few days. At that point, we did and then were told we would only get $76.59 for a refund. WHAT??? I dont make these charges lightly, I WENT to the Carmax store where the car was purchased and asked to speak with a manager about this problem. A nice young man talked with me but to no avail. He told me the GAP (Safeguard Products International LLC.) was a separate company and I needed to deal with them. I told him this was not right and he acknowledged that. I then said something needed to be done about this deceptive business practice and he told me there was nothing Carmax could do. So the bottom line young people, NEVER ask Carmax to extend a payment if you have GAP Insurance, no one will tell you your GAP insurance (Safeguard Products International LLC.) will expire and should you need it... youre screwed. You arent told squat. Does Carmax own the GAP (Safeguard Products International LLC.) insurance? No. Do they sell it as an additional protection level product? YEP! My wife and I have spent a lot of time back and forth with Carmax. I will not purchase another vehicle from Carmax EVER! Update: We called Carmax as they requested... spoke to the manager and they did NOTHING. Their online response is just tactics to make the poster look bad and the company look better. We have now paid the vehicle in full. I stand by my advice... do not buy from Carmax.

The overall process of purchasing my car there was decent. I purchased in Feb 2015. When I test drove the car it was dirty but was assured it would be cleaned before my purchase. My sales rep told me he had looked over my car before I drove off in it and it was nice and clean. When I got home and looked through it completely it was filthy! I had to bring my car back to be cleaned, and it still wasnt that great of a cleaning. About a couple months after I purchased my car I was driving while it was raining and a gush of water shot out onto my passenger floor. Every time after that it rains my passenger floor is soak and wet. I brought my car in to be looked at recently. I spoke with a service rep that told me that when a car sits up for a while sometimes the systems can be clogged and there was a drainage tube clogged which causes the water to be dumped onto my floor.I drive my car every day so it has not been sitting up since I bought it. I mainly park in the garage so it doesnt always get rained in. However, every time I drive in the rain or park outside my garage I have been getting into a mold infested, smelly car. I spoke to the sales manager who is VERY rude. He was argumentative and horrible to deal with. They are trying to charge me $200 to get it fixed. He said they have been more than generous only charging me that amount because I didnt bring the car in within 30 days after purchase. I informed him that it did not rain until at least 60 days after I purchased my car and I called immediately. I work a lot and was unable to bring my car in at that time and now I am being charged for something that was wrong with my car before I purchased it. They did not inspect that drainage tube before they sold me the car and now Im stuck with mold infested carpet and a soaked floor every time it rains (which it has been doing a lot of recently). I am extremely disappointed with Carmax and will never purchase from or recommend them again. Who wants to pay for a car for the next 5 years that has a leak that was present before purchase. I will be reporting this location to the corporate office and possibly suing if me or my children get sick from inhaling mold spores every time we get in the car. I only gave one star because I had to provide something.

This was my second time purchasing a vehicle from Carmax. The first time I purchased a vehicle from the Baton Rouge, Louisiana location and I loved my experience. It was natural for me to want to return, but this experience was horrible. The car salesman told me whatever they thought I needed to hear to purchase the vehicle. I paid $849 to have a car shipped to the North Houston location, and I had to convince the salesman that I am allowed to ask questions about the vehicles condition. I been through that same procedure before, so I was very familiar. Everything about this process, I had to ask a manager, because I could not get any assistance from my salesman. When the car arrived, it was filthy, it had stains, scratches, and marks that was not disclosed when I asked about it. The salesman and the manager both told me it was because it is expected when purchasing "a used" vehicle. They said they would clean it up, but that is what happens. The vehicle I purchased was a 2016 Infiniti, so I did not expect for it to look the way that it did. I felt like I had no other choice but to purchase that vehicle, because I paid so much money to get it shipped here, I was already invested. I was so hurt and disappointed with my car experience, and I will NEVER purchase a vehicle from carmax again. This was the worst experience I have ever encountered, but as long as they got their money, they really did not care. Less than a week after I had the car, I realized all kinds of things broke on it, that obviously carmax knew about but hid from me and I was even more disgusted. I opened up the gas area to fill my car up, and the entire knob fell out. Carmax put gas in there before they gave me the car. They knew that was broke amongst other things, but really did not care about me, or valued me as a customer. I can not speak for all locations, but for sure this experience alone has turned me completely off from carmax for life...... Please go somewhere else, or DO NOT ORDER A CAR FROM ANOTHER LOCATION!
