What mixed emotions I feel about this place… Although I appreciate the casual approach to this neighborhood coffee shop, I often leave wanting a more consistent drink and experience. Atmosphere = * Parking is limited on the curb, but (TIP) a parking lot across the street allows free parking for customers any time. The front patio is inviting, but often really crowded so finding a spot here might be hard. The interior is also really welcoming with tables and more casual seating arrangements to choose from. Order food or a drink from the counter at the back. Local art is featured on the walls and available for sale. Games for the kids are displayed on a bookcase with literature from local businesses. The restroom, located in the back hall, is generally very clean. Service = ½* The staff is generally pretty friendly; the baristas have always willing to explain a menu item or make a recommendation. On several visits, I’ve found that the “relaxed” style of service can be frustrating – when you’re waiting at the front of the line to order for more than a minute, when you’re waiting for a drink that you’ve already ordered that was never made, etc. Food = * I can speak only for the drinks here… Any iced toddy (coffee concentrate) combination that I’ve tried is good. The five dollar mocha and other specialty drinks are delicious! Value = ½ * Although I hate to admit paying too much for coffee, you do here. I began frequenting Boomtown, ordering an iced toddy with almond milk every day for a few weeks. Some days, I was charged $3.50, the menu price. Other days, I was charged as much as $4.25 for the same item. I asked a staff member about the difference in price and was told that there is additional charge for syrup, but not for milk substitutes; apparently, some servers apply this charge and some don’t. Assuming you will pay $3.50 for a 12 ounce iced coffee beverage, or $4.00 to $5.00 for a specialty drink, your money is spent more wisely somewhere else

Their iced coffee drinks are simply fantastic. The Crüd is a cold brew coffee that is lightly sweetened and served with a touch of cream. It is my favorite drink there as it really highlights the fantastic flavor of their coffee beans and is still great on a hot summer day. There is another drink (unfortunately, I cant think of the name) that is espresso shaken over ice with orange bitters and ginger that is also quite nice. And the Undertow, which is layered hot coffee and cold cream is a very unique experience as well. The only hot drink that Ive had is the flat white. You can choose between the house blend and a single-source varietal for the coffee. Unfortunately, the ristretto isnt quite as strong it is in my favorite flat whites in Berlin and Copenhagen, leading to a weaker coffee flavor. Although I havent gotten any of their flavored lattes, they flavors look interesting (like maple) and you have the option of scaling the amount of flavor from 1 to 5, so you dont have to worry about it being too sweet. The food that Ive had there is good cafe food. They also carry (amongst other high end soft drinks) delicious Main Root Blueberry Soda. The music selection is great, the art is interesting, and there is a decent amount of comfortable seating. Unfortunately, the WiFi is a bit spotty, which can be annoying if you are trying to get work done. Update: Since today was a surprisingly cold August day in Houston (only 77 at 1 p.m.?!?!?), I decided to try a flavored hot latte. The white chocolate spice consists of white chocolate, hazelnut, and nutmeg, and is dusted with coffee grounds. I got a 2 (out of 5) for sweetness, which was the perfect amount for me. It was delicious.

I went to Boomtown Coffee on an early Sunday afternoon with my girlfriend. We noticed that there was a big private parking lot across the street with some empty spaces; this is always a positive note for a Houston business. As we walked towards the coffee shop, we observed that there was an outdoor patio area with a bunch of tables and chairs. Unfortunately, as soon as I opened the front door, a blast of cigarette/cigar smell punched me in the face. Its very noticeable. Their neighboring business, the Heights Cigar Lounge, doesnt have a very effective ventilation system, and this definitely needs to be addressed. This coffee shop is very spacious and has many chairs and tables to sit at. Free Wi-Fi is provided as well. In the middle of the shop, there is a beautiful, giant blackboard with their coffee menu. This is the best part about Boomtown; theres a variety of quality coffee to choose from. I went with the Iced Mayan Mocha, and my girlfriend went with the Chocolate Toddy. These drinks were delicious, but we had to escape the smell and drink them outside on the patio. I would go with a 5-star rating, but I cant get ever how bad this place smells. What to order: -Iced Mayan Mocha Pros: -Extensive Coffee Menu -Free Wi-Fi -Spacious with many tables to sit -Outdoor patio -Private parking lot across the street Cons: -Reeks of cigarette/cigar smoke from the neighboring business (Heights Cigar Lounge)

What a great neighborhood coffee shop! When my home internet is spotty, I find myself driving down the road to Boomtown. I have always been able to find parking in front of the shop. They offer a wide selection of coffee drinks. I particularly like the Milk & Honey latte. If youre in a smoothie mood, they offer that too, but the baristas dont hesitate to suggest you try Juicy in the Sky next door. Yes, you can bring your smoothie into Boomtown. They also have an assortment of pastries, although a little steep if you ask me. $3 for a chocolate croissant? The croissant was good, but not $3 worth. It would be nice to know where the pastries are sourced from. All the tables situated next to the wall have a long strip of outlets to plug your laptop into. Perfect for getting work done. Minus one star for the smokey smell. Smoking is allowed outside, and unfortunately, the smell makes its ugly way inside. I got home and reeked of smoke.

Cool location and Hot coffee make Boomtown a must stop in the Heights. In the Texas heat, Boomtown is a cool oasis featuring quality coffee. The employees are friendly and the shop is clean. A friend and I came based on a recommendation and we were not disappointed. The woman at the counter was very gracious and gave my friend a free cup of drip. The coffee was outstanding and my only complaint is that because the crockery is traditional heavy white it cools the coffee quite quickly. The decor is a cool streamlined white featuring modern art. There is plenty of seating inside and out, with a large covered patio. Overall a great coffee shop and one I look forward to visiting again.

Had a fantastic experience at Boomtown Coffee this morning. I ordered a latte and opted to purchase some of their roasted whole beans to take home. The atmosphere of the cafe is fantastic -- great outdoor and indoor seating with tons of natural light. The latte was not only gorgeous as well as delicious. The espresso was flawless -- all of the notes shined through and the milk had the perfect level of microfoam. I got the opportunity to talk with the general manager (who was totally awesome, huge shout out :]) and geek out over their espresso machine. 10/10, great experience, would highly recommend stopping in!
