Player 1 has many things going for it. The store is clean, well laid out, neatly arranged, and has a large and varied inventory of retro games, accessories, and systems. Plus, the guys behind the counter are very friendly and helpful. However, I wont be paying them another visit anytime soon. Why? Their pricing is all over the place. I managed to purchase a couple of games for relatively decent prices but had to sift through several sections of their store just to find them. $50 for a fair condition loose copy of Pokemon Emerald? No thanks, more like $30 tops. Thats just one of several dozens of examples of wonky pricing I came upon throughout the store. I would have docked another star off of this review had their pricing been that consistently terrible, but it ranged across a wide margin so I cant fault them much for that. If youre an avid retro game collector I would still recommend paying them at least one visit, but beyond that stick to the Game Over Videogames just inside 610 off 59, or hit up Game Bros. over in La Porte.

Player1 is a locally owned, independent used, trade-in (and to a lesser extent) new video game store. The store is clean and well organized. Selection consists of systems and games ranging from the older Atari consoles to the current consoles and everything in between. Also has a decent selection of handheld systems, ranging from the Sega Nomad to the Nintendo and Sony systems. Mike, the owner, is helpful and knows what about the products in the store. Most welcomed is that there is no pressure placed on customers unlike GameStop. Player1 also allows for customers to try a game before purchase. Cant say enough good things about this place.

Like the othsr reviews have stated, this is one of the best game stores in existence when bit comes to classic games and systems. The staff is super friendly and easy to share classic gaming stories with. Their prices are very good considering you get to see and test the systems amd gamez in the store, they dont much more than ebay and sometimes even less. I respect that while they have to turn a profit, they dont try to rip off less knowledgeable customers. As long as you dont go there looking for day one new system game releases you will not be disappointed.

Selection is great, and guys who work there are great. However, their prices are WAY to high. Went in to buy an original Gameboy, expecting to pay around $30 (which is normal pricing as of the time Im writing this). I look at them and they wanted $80. EIGHTY DOLLARS. No way. And this isnt the first time that Ive gone in there and turned away empty handed because they wanted way too much for something. If Its a necessity and youve just got to have it, theyre youre guys. However, expect to pay more than twice as other people have them listed for in most cases

Im in my mid 30s and recently, I was inspired to revisit my childhood gaming days by searching for a Houston vintage video game store that sold 80s/90s gaming consoles. Lo and behold, after many Google attempts at scouring the internet for a vintage video game shop, I finally stumbled onto Gamer 1! Gamer 1 specializes in vintage gaming consoles, and although they sell xbox and other newer games/equipment, the real meat and potatoes of this store is its amazing collection of old school gaming equipment! Great prices too!

As a tourist who stopped here and Game Over in Houston proper, I have to give this store the edge. It doesnt have quite the breadth of games, but this place has so many collection-worthy games at solid prices. Plus, their selection of games for lesser-known platforms (Sega Saturn, Neo-Geo, etc.) and import selections are off the chain! Staff was also more talkative and seemingly knowledgeable.

The employees are nice enough, mostly helpful but the pricing is way out of line. They dont allow you to return items, only give you store credit. They never offered this fact up to my 83 year old grandmother, just over charged her for a first gen 3DS $175 for a console you can get from game stop for $100. I do Not recommend anyone to shop here unless you really have to.

Great, knowledgeable staff, very friendly and willing to help find what I needed. A very large assortment of the games and systems I wanted, needed, and desire with a passion. All in beautiful condition! Im just so happy I found this place in Houston. They will be getting 90% of my gaming business from now on!

Great variety of games, sometimes buying pokemon games are expensive, they have a lot of old and new time video games and systems, employees have lots of knowledge of the games, and will recommend games for you or for gifts, theyre good for trading in your old games for new ones

Top quality on everything. I tried to trade a controller in that had a little bit of wear but he wouldnt take it. Speaks quality. I love that they have all the Atari, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, 64, game cube, PlayStation, PS2, PS3, Xbox, and so on. All the ones I grew up with.!

Great - the people who work here are not only very knowledgeable, they also dont try and up sell everything. Almost bought a game that wouldnt work with my N64, until he reminded me of the required expansion card. I would have wasted time by having to go back.

These guys are awesome, fun environment and they know their stuff. Helpful and give reasonable prices. If at all you need help with vintage gaming or repairs or purchases, do it here. Game Stop will never treat you as well as these guys

Very over priced, very lazy people working there. No one came out from behind the counter to help me at any point. No one welcomed me to the store asked what I need or if they could help me. I do not recommend this place to anyone ever.

The customer service is not bad. The selection is pretty vast, but not the best in the area. Overall, this store is likely to have what you need. I would prefer a store like this over a Gamestop any day.

I love this place, I just wish it wasnt so far away. Admittedly some of the prices are high, but thats a decent downside to have a great classic gaming store around. Plus the staff is great too.

The people working there know the games and consoles better than any place else Ive been. Better prices and better quality used items. I highly recommend this store for all your gaming needs.

Place is okay but their web site is a little misleading. They do not "buy" anything from you. They will ofrer you store credit only. Though they claim Buy, sell or trade.
