Century21 department stores customer service if foul. I have a shoe buying habit and went to the Century21 store in Philadelphia’s Gallery mall today. I spent about 30 minutes of my lunch break browsing the store looking for something that I must have. I found a pair of G-Star jeans that were marked at $44.99 which I thought to be a bargain since most items on this same rack was $79.99 or more. After deciding this was my must have item, I went to the shoe department to look around because that was my actual mission. I didn’t find any shoes so I went to the cashier to check out. These jeans came up “item not found” according to the cashier so she asked for assistance from a front end manager but there was no resolution. A man named Isaiah came to the register that did the same search on the computer. Isaiah then went to the rack the jeans came from. I should have returned to work by now so I went to inquire what was happening. At this point Isaiah said “I am going to look at the security cameras and I’m going to let you tell me now if you switched the tags”. I asked what exactly was he accusing me of and he repeated his assertion and again suggested I should tell him now. I told Isaiah that I was already late returning to work but I was so aggravated that I’d be waiting for him to do whatever it is he felt he needed to do since he’d made this accusation. As I’m waiting, I returned to the register and conveyed this incredible story to the cashier. Another man walks though the cashiering area and I could tell by the employee’s reaction that he might be in management. The cashier informed me this man was Jason the store manager. I went to Jason and repeated this story and he too acted as if I might be a culprit of some type. I’m talking to Jason hoping he’d see how this is a terrible customer experience; however he didn’t seem to understand what I was experiencing. I asked Jason how is it that C21 does not have store protocol to deal with these instances and can’t he see how this is lousy customer service. At this point Jason advises me that I am free to leave if I wished to do so. I responded that I realize it’s my prerogative to leave but I need the situation to be resolved in any manner other that my leaving infuriated. Another man came through the cashiering station and performs the exact same procedure of checking the jeans in the computer. More time passes and he comes to tell me “this is not the correct price for these jeans, and if you want to buy them they are $79.99”. I informed him that I wouldn’t be buying anything from C21. I told him what Isaiah said to me and asked where Isaiah was now. He told me “he’s currently dealing with another theft issue”. I then asked if he thought I was a thief and who he was. He responded that he was the manager of loss prevention. When I asked his name he said Tyrese Williams and then gave me his business card and wrote Isaiah’s name on the back of that card. This can’t be the first time C21 has had an item that was improperly tagged. Century21 must have issues with the training of employees in the proper way to serve their customers. I Googled C21 and there are mostly negative comments about their customers experience. I’ve been to this particular store several times seeking that special item and was never impressed with the product selection. I’ve made a few purchases from the store in Manhattan and found the selection there much better. What’s most surprising is neither of the 2 people who said they’re managers, offered an apology or said they were sorry for what I experienced today.

Returns are an absolute hassle and they do a ridiculous dance keeping you waiting 20+ min in a hot store while 2-3 of them figure out how to process. Also, they claim returns can only be done on 2nd floor because they are concerned about property loss. When asked how that factored in when the merch was coming back IN and not going out, they fumbled for some other BS excuse. Further, The first floor has the security guards, not the 2nd...so? Since its opening, Ive been in only a handful of times. When faced with making a return, I remember why! As for fly fashions, take a good look at what you are buying. Some items are defective, stained, past seasons. Know your product, price points, designer, and quality construction before you assume youre getting a deal. Also, RTW mass merch designers like nine west, jax, Calvin Klein, Taylor, August Silk, etc are priced better at off price stores like Ross, Marshalls, and Burlington. I wish them well, but the Philly store is a far cry from the wall street area flagship store in NYC.

Have been looking forward to going to the new Philly store...finally did..WHAT A LET DOWN!!! Was confused about how to get around, doors and stairways blocked, poor signage. Was NEVER ONCE acknowledged by a saleperson. In fact the only person who did greet me was a woman giving out religious pamphlets!!! 2 Salesmen in the mens shoe dept were so engrossed in their conversation that I had to ask a question twice before I got a response. Then they didnt even know what brands Century 21 carries!!! Another salesman in mens clothing, scared me when Ihe came out of an aisle..more make up than a corner hooker. He gave me a look as if to say, "what are you doing in here". I am a professional and was wearing jeans and a expensive hoodie with a name brand jacket, so i was not dressed like a bum or anything. Much more merchandise on line than in store. Went to buy Levi jeans and sneakers, salespeople didnt even know Century 21 carried Levis. I wont go back!

DO NOT SHOP ONLINE WITH THIS STORE!!!!! Ordered 8 pieces of clothing. They shipped 5. And sent me an packing slip that said the other three had been packed and were just waiting to be shipped separately. Then they emailed me on the 6th item and told me they were not going to ship it to me (what?). I waited a week and then followed up for the remaining two items. After three phone calls to customer support who said they would contact the warehouse, I get an email saying "Hi, They have informed me they will not be shipping the [sportcoat]." Seriously, who is running this place? Two weeks and three phone calls to tell me you dont have the item in stock that your website said was in stock? TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!! SHOP ELSEWHERE, PLEASE!!!!!!! Or go into an actual store where you can see what they actually have in stock. I cannot wait to see what they charge me on the credit card. What a HEADACHE!!!!

If you grew up in NY like I did you know that C21 is NOT the best department store. Theyre not known for their cleanliness or customer service and thats just how it is. Yet their discounts are astounding and they offer a lot of brands at decent prices. Now they used to be "New Yorks best kept secret" so it kind of upset me when they brought it to philly because it was my number one shopping spot and also felt like my little gem when I would go back to NY to visit my family. The philly store also completely changed its aesthetic front the stores I grew up with in NY. They decided to revamp and make it look super high class and clean when the stores in NY are really the equivalent of a Ross..... That being said, C21 is great if you like designer clothes and dont like to pay the full price. You just cant be picky with little things like customer service as thats never been their strong suit.
