I generally do not believe in wasting time on negativity or posting a very negative review. I am posting this review because I doubt very much that Discount Tire Co. of Utah, Inc. executives are aware of s serious management problem with their South Salt Lake City location. There is no way Smuel would still be working there and most appalling of all, "managing" (or mis-managing, depending on how you lok at it I suppose, the South Salt Lakce City Discount Tire Company. The worst tire purchasing experience Ive ever had. Incompetence led to my wheel coming off while driving down the highway. Mechanic asked me about spacers and I told him I had no idea. He thought they were not necessary. I told him to put it back together how it was because it was working fine. My wheel came flying off at 55 mph and nearly caused my premature death. Guess what? Spacers are gone and wheel lugs bottom out before the lug hits the rim. Im not sure it was the spacers that were the problem. It may have been the fact that the mechanic who actually did the work did not use a torque wrench when carelessly tightening down my wheel. I had meant to check his work using my own calibrated torque wrench, but before I could, my wheel came a flying off on the highway. It almost hit a semi, but what was worse is my family and I almost hit that same semi! Since I live about 3 hours away from SLC, I called the day before I came to make sure that they could have me a tire and the required parts to fix These bums had me drive across the state for a tire that was supposed to replace my destroyed tire, but when I arrived, there was no tire. Then Samuel, who is the store manager at the South Salt Lake City store, told me it was a mistake and would be here the next day and I patiently waited another day. Then another. Then another, and just to be sure I was good and irritated, another day. Each day I called and talked to Samuel and each day he made up a new excuse for why the tire did not arrive as promised. It became a game with Samuel, and slowly became clear that he had no intention of making the situation right and I decided that Samuel was purposely trying to make my experience inconvenient. I knew there had to be someone at Discount Tire Company who had enough common sense to fix my problem before my wheel came flying off again and killed me, so I went to the Bountiful, Utah location of Discount Tire Company. Cally Cason, a Senior Assistant Manager at that store in fact is really smart and understood the ramifications that Discount Tire Company was set to incur should the wheels come flying off again. HE was as reasonable as you would expect from a profesional. He did a quick check on his computer and said he could have me a tire and some properly fitting wheel studs on my car by the end of the day. He sent me acros the stret to Tunex, who was also as reasonable as normal people are, and there was no issue. So as for my review of Discount Tire Company, I would say that they are generally a decent company. All companies make mistakes in hiring, and Samuel is this mistake for Discount Tire Company (and likely for his mother as well. :p). Theres no problem with Discount Tire Company, other than they have a problem at their South Salt Lake City store management. See my positive review of the Bountiful location, and go there instead. No chips on shoulders at the Bountiful store. While I was there I also noticed a major difference in attitude of both the employees working there, but also in the customers who were waiting for work being rendered. At the South Sal Lake City location, there are always about 20 people waiting and for hours. At the Bountiful location, there were about three people waiting, but at least their cars were actually being worked on and they were not waiting just to get in line like at the South Salt Lake City location. Check out my review of the Bountiful store, then save yourself some hours and major frustration by simply driving the extra 15 miles to Bountiful.

I bought my tires at a different location sometime ago, after some wer and tear my rear-driver side tire needed a patch and the service fella at the desk came out to take a look and said it was too worn out to patch, I thought he was wrong but didnt say anything and asked me to hold on while he checks if they had a used tire to hold me over til I can replace them all at once, after a 15 min wait he came and told me they had nothing used and I would have to buy a new one (after I told him I couldnt do that until Friday) when I said that I couldnt buy new he actually insisted it to me AGAIN! When I finally got him to stop talking I just asked if he could fill up my tire with air now and Ill be on my way he tells me to pull up to the front of the store and he will get it taken care of, I did as instructed and waited for about 45 minutes with service guys walking around me and past me just looking at me and not one of them asked a question to see if I needed help or something. It was fxxxing ridiculous. I went into the office and talked to the manager who acted as if I just asked him if I could have a million dollars when all I wanted was some air in my tire, he did walk out there himself and put the air in and apologized for the wait so that I forgive but all in all it was a pretty ridiculous experience, I have always gone to big O tires and the past two times I have gone to discount (there is no big O in my area) but now I dont have an excuse to not go back to big O.

I usually by tires from Discount Tire however this was the first time i visited this location, and I experienced a very poor quality of customer service. I will start by saying I will continue to buy tires from Discount as they provide the best prices and a very good replacement warranty, should you choose to buy it. That being said I called ahead to get a price quote and verify the tires were in stock. They had the 5 tires in house and I liked the price so I made an appointment. When I arrived I found out they now only had 4 tires available. Instead of reserving the 5 tires, or getting a call before my appointment to let me know, I had to return the following day to pick up the spare. While I was at the shop getting the first 4 tires mounted the representative that was helping me passed the paperwork off to a technician stating my vehicle was next. The tech quickly stated he didnt have time to do it as the whole shop was backed up, right in front of a lobby full of customers. All in all I have my tires for the price I was quoted, but not before I was inconvenienced and displeased by the quality of customer service. Next time I buy tires Ill simply call before my appointment to ensure they havent sold the tires I reserved.
