We have been taking our chocolate lab to PetsMart for boarding, doggie day camp and training services since we got her as a puppy a year ago. Because we have had such great service and because I depend on these reviews for other providers when we travel, I felt the need to weigh in on the quality of PetsMarts boarding, doggie day camp and dog training. Let me start by saying I understand the bathroom issue mentioned by the other reviewer. It is definitely a negative in my mind, but it should not be characterized as a problem with the employees, its a store policy issue. As a puppy, our dog often broke house training after she returned from PetsMart as a result of this policy and that was REALLY frustrating, but with maturity and us being more diligent upon her return, we got through that and its no longer an issue. While I would much prefer a situation where she has outdoor time, we have found that the positives far, far outweigh this negative. I was also initially skeptical about the big box store over a private provider but again the positives outweighed this hesitancy, and I am so happy I gave this store a try. The positives for us are these: * the central location makes it easy to drop my dog off on the way out of town * the long and flexible (and Sunday!) hours help to ensure that we can get her as soon as we return 95% of the time * the facility is always very clean * there are a variety of sizes of kennels * even the larger, private spaces are affordable (though I have never opted for the suites) * the staff really do care about your pets * the staff are very flexible and diligent about specific needs * the staff are knowledgeable (Dee, the trainer, is exceptional), and * (most importantly for our dog) there is plenty of opportunity for play time with other dogs. Our dog returns home happy and exhausted even after a one-day or one-night stay, and when we return to PetsMart, she cant wait to get out of the car. After traveling cross-country with her and working with a variety of providers across the country while we were on the road, I can say with confidence that this PetsMart is among the best youll find.

I will never ever use their grooming salon again. We have a jack russell/pug just over a year old. Brought her here for a pawdicure package - nails trimmed and ground, ears cleaned, teeth brushed. She has been going there since she was 8 weeks old, never had a problem. Normally we have a girl (I think named Brynon?) who is terrific with our dog. Very patient and kind, but unfortunately she wasnt there that day. From the cash register line I watched in horror as this girl put her in a bear hug under her arm and squeezed her between her leg and side then flipped, pulled, and grabbed at her to try and get at her back feet! Yes, she is a puppy, yes she does squirm a little, but never ever have I seen anything like this in my life! I ran into the salon and just as I opened the door I hear my poor little puppy choking on the restraint and the girl full on screaming at her STOP STOP! I called to the girl to be more gentle - totally ignored me - kept ripping at her feet and legs. Then when she was done butchering her - she wiped her ears out with a DRY cotton ball - squirted fresh breath spray in her mouth and didnt even brush her teeth! I got her outside and checked her feet - down to the quick on 2 of her nails and bleeding! And obviously completely shaken up from the whole experience! If she did all of this within my eye shot who knows what happens when people arent there to watch! I am mortified at all of this! I just spoke with the store manager who did express genuine concern and assured me it would be handled personally with the individual responsible. He was very professional in that he offered me a refund for the service and a free grooming package for us to return. Which I was appreciative of, but I dont feel comfortable going back at this point. I really hope this person gets the direction she needs so this doesnt happen again.

I have been using Petsmart for medical, boarding, grooming, and training for several years now, and have never experienced any of the issues expressed here. My dog has always been happy to be there, and has never shown any ill effects after being picked up. While I agree that it would be nice if they had a fenced outside run area, there would still be weather days where inside play would be necessary. The groomers are very friendly and seem to know what they are doing. My dog looks and smells good each time I pick him up, and I have never noticed any symptoms of him being sick afterward. I have only had one issue with my dog scratching for several days following one visit to the groomer. I spoke with the store, we determined he may have some allergic reaction to their shampoo, and they changed to a different type...no problems since. I will continue to use the Lancaster Petsmarts (I have used both), and have no concerns regarding my dogs safety or health while in their care. The only thing I dont like about Petsmart (any store) is their product pricing. I wish they were more comparable to other major chain stores, but other than that, I like them and will continue to patronize them.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PET SMART !!!!! THEY CAUSED MY RABBIT TO DIE. I took my rabbit here to get his nails clipped in January, and the vet (she was the vet assistant but they called her a vet) paralyzed my rabbit. Yes I said PARALYZED. I heard my rabbit scream 5 minutes after i gave the women my rabbit. My rabbit was healthy and in good shape before i took him their. When i got home, i let him out to run around, and he was using his front feet to move around. His legs were dragging behind him. I called the lady and was furious. I took him back and asked her what she had done to my rabbit. She denied that she had done anything. He got an X-ray taken and nothing was broken. So i hoped and prayed he would get better. 2 days later, he passed away. I am never going back to petsmart every again. I wouldnt want anything that happened to my rabbit to happen to anyones pet.

DO NOT RECOMMEND GROOMING SERVICES. I took my shih tzu there for a 9:30am appointment to get groomed. I was told it would take about 3 hours. After 3 hours I still hadnt heard from them so I called to check on her. The person answered to tell me THEY FORGOT she was in the back waiting to get groomed. My dog sat in a cage for 3 hours until someone acknowledged she was there. Of course when they finally groomed her they rushed the service giving her a crappy haircut and hurting her paw. When I arrived to pick her up they ignored the whole situation and handed me a invoice of $51. If I wouldnt have called, how much longer would my dog have been waiting before anybody decided to check on her? Never going there for anything ever again.
