People attack whole foods for their prices, but I STILL find some of their options are the cheapest of all, INCLUDING "cheap" grocers like Trader Joes. At least for the food I like to get. An example is their tofu and Soy Creamer can cost 50% less than other stores. I love their Salad Bar. I really think they do a great job with it, nationally, not just this location. I come here when I want fast salad, my way, and pretty cheap. (Used to be a dollar less per pound, which was a steal at the time!) Staff is great to look at, if you like happy cheerful people. Smoothie bar is pretty damn good, although Ive never gotten the same great "Strawberry Hempster" that I had the first time. A note to many grocery stores: Whole Foods does layout right. Plenty of space, thought out design, and the store is just pleasant to be in. They get ambiance right. So many stores just cram product in and it doesnt "flow" right. Not sure if anyone else thinks about this stuff, but I appreciate it. But, yeah, on some items, they could be cheaper, but when I can be in and out of there with a 1 lb salad with 15-20 ingredients in under 5 minutes, I think paying extra is worth it.

We dont usually shop at Whole Foods, but our preferred store is not in NW Portland, so occasionally. . . besides being more expensive we dont like that, like Trader Joes, they steal recipes from good organic companies and then underprice them until they no longer bother to carry the brand they stole from -- not great. I tried some of their whole organic chickens as they were on sale. RIP OFF. They had stuffed the insides with huge pieces of fat -- and the fat around the neck was excessively large -- but at least it belonged there, and had not been added. They also stuffed the insides with giblets and hearts but no liver. THIS WAS TRUE ON ALL THE WHOLE ORGANIC CHICKENS, which means it is an acceptable Whole Foods practice. Stay away from the meat department. Their bakery is overpriced and the baked goods we have had are so-so.

I like the location of this whole foods based on my proximity, but since its downtown it can be a little crazy due to limited parking. There is a parking garage around the block that is available. The staff are very friendly and willing to help you find whatever that crazy ingredient on your list it. The cheese mongers are extremely helpful and will offer great suggestions if you require some help. Ive found some great deals at this Whole Foods location (despite the whole paycheck nickname). While more expensive when compared to some other stores, this Whole Foods appears to have avoided some of the homeless problems faced by Safeway and Fred Meyer and as a result, feel much safer to visit at nighttime. The hot bar food is hit and miss depending on what time you arrive. Ive had great prepared food and not so great as well.

whole foods is a wonderful place , as i walked into the door an employee asked me if i was interested in a homemade peanut and banana doggy cookie . i had no dog but i was very interested and then they told me about how whole foods Unlike some mainstream brands, their vendors are committed to consumer education and wanted me to know exactly what is in their products, all of which are made without artificial flavors, colors or preservatives. These companies are also committed to safety, and none of the pet foods in their current selection have ever been affected by a safety recall. i was really impressed with their services i completely skipped picking up my groceries went home and wrote up a review ... sadly i still have no dog , but if i ever get one first place im taking it to is whole foods :)

Whole Foods burst onto the scene to claim its share of retail glory roughly 30 years ago. Since then it has grown to a well recognized chain famous for its healthy, moderately tasty, and fast hot food bar and sizeable selection of organic, fair trade (Expensive, arguably over-priced) foods, supplements, bath products, and a few home goods. This location, adjacent to the famous downtown Powell Books, features a neat little loft coffee shop. Unfortunately, it seems that the employees here seem more devoted to ensuring the continued misery and discomfort of Portlands homeless population than dealing with pesky customer inquiries or requests for assistance. Yes it looks great to be seen shopping here but stifle your need to keep up appearances for a moment and head to Trader Joes instead.

Oftentimes I feel downtrodden, sad, exhausted and frustrated. I need a pick me up. And I will tell you, George up in the Mezz is the guy who does it for me. At first glance you wouldnt be able to distinguish this furry little hipster apart from many of the gentlemen at whole foods, but there is a certain Je ne sais quoi? about his demure, personable attitude that keeps me coming back. I would say that on average I spend hundreds of dollars a week at whole foods market and about one third would have to be allocated to the mezz, solely because I enjoy George "Kirk"s presence. Nice addition whole foods on hiring an intelligent, kind and compassionate barista!

Wow, first impression is that this place is PACKED. If you go into this grocery store during your lunch break, I can guarantee that you are going to find a line. They have an okay deli area, but I do love the burrito section and I wish that all Whole Foods locations had this option. I didnt give this a high rating because its a pretty cramped store. The aisles are small and when its crowded, it feels even smaller. It is at a prime location in downtown and I highly recommend this store if you want to stop in quick for something to eat. Heavy duty shopping for the week? You may want to go somewhere else.

This just happened to me again, this year. Mind you, I dont shop here very often. The register has the wrong price. When I returned to point out the error, they credited the difference unapologetically. It wasted my time. Do they count on people accepting the wrong price? In other stores, including other Wholefoods, the wrong priced item would be given for free. Here, theres no penalty to err. No wonder it happens again and again. The Wholefoods at Tannasbourn isnt any better. Expired items on shelves. These 2 are the only stores I visited in OR. Much worse than those in WA.

I know, I know, its a giant corporation. But that just doesnt stop me from loving this store. The produce, seafood / meat counters, cheese, and bakery are all phenomenal - thoughtfully selected / prepared, clean, and well-stocked. The employees are awesome - they really know their stuff, and if you dont act like a self-entitled yuppie (it is the Pearl after all) they will bend over backwards to help you. Currently they are renovating to add more beer/wine, cheese, bakery, and deli, but they are doing a good job of not disrupting the store while they work.

Whole Foods is great, the salad bar has always been exceptional as is the bakery. Customer service is top rate...love that Im treated like I matter. Im starting to get a little bit bummed about the hot bar however. I use to love it, especially when they first opened. They use to rotate a much bigger variety of dishes, now it seems to be the same ol same ol. Getting very boring. And lately, for the breakfast hot bar...theyve had no sausage gravy, just the vegan, which its not horrible, but its not my favorite either. What is that about?
