I was never too happy with the grooming service because of the frequent delays but it has gotten worse lately because of absurd rules they seem to have come up with now to add extra charges to grooming bills. The latest scam is that if you bring in your own oatmeal shampoo (in this case one bought over the counter in that same store), they consider it a "prescription" product whose instructions for use they "must" abide by as if they were dealing with real prescribed medication. Hence, if the label "recommends" to leave the shampoo on the dogs skin for 10 minutes for better results, they cannot rinse it any sooner than that and, therefore, have to charge an extra fee for the "soaking time". So, if you think you can do better for your dog by buying a better than average shampoo and expect the Petco groomers to use it -instead of whatever probably lower grade product they may use- you are in for a surprise. They penalize you with an extra fee because the "recommended" use of the product is consider by the Company a "medical treatment". To add insult to injury one cannot even expect the store staff, including the manager, to admit the absurdity of this scam. This was the last straw for my family. After discovering better dog food prices at the local feed-and-seed store and observing the stores very poor animal husbandry, particularly in the case of fish, this is all we needed to boycott Petco from now on.

Corvallis Oregon Petco experience: Totally unable to communicate on a basic level. Filled out pet adoption application told clerk we had recently lost a cat about three weeks ago and thought we would adopt again. Denied!!! Why clerk changed the story three times: Story one you have a dog? the dog you never asked about also a recuse has no contact with the past cat, dog lives outside and inside at night on a totally different floor of the house. No contact with cat stop by closed door. Story two: you recently adopted a cat and lost it three weeks ago. What??? I adopted the cat SEVEN years go and lost if three weeks ago. Also have owned 5 other cats previously all living into the 12-18 range in age all recused. Seven years ago was not a recent adoption!!!! Story three: "you lost cat recently and you have a dog, You think you lost cat because it got outside and a feral cat ate it, so you live in an area with Feral cats..... " Oh please this lady did not listen or want to hear, made decision and told adopt agency I adopted and lost a cat is three week period of time... No wonder! She was unwilling to call the agency and correct her story!!!!!!!!!!!! Please get some staff that will listen...CUSTOMER SERVICE CAN HEAR!!!!!!

Dont go here for grooming. I used to go to Petsmart but then I moved and Petco was a much closer location. My appointment was at 1:00 and they told me 2-3 hours. I got a call at 3:30 saying that they hadnt even started the drying process on the bath (and therefore hadnt even started grooming him!) because he wasnt started until 2:15 (over an hour after his appointment) and then was asked if he had back problems because he could barely stand. I changed from a full groom to just do his stomach and the back of his legs so that they stayed away from his back, and told them Id prefer a wet dog to one that couldnt walk. I went to get him and I saw her push on my dogs back to get at his back legs to cut the hair after I told her that he did have issues AND after she had asked and noted problems to me. In addition, for only a partial groom (that did not look well done at all) and not being completely dried I was charged $57. I am very unhappy with the entire experience.

Bad customer service. After taking my dogs there for grooming for a couples of years, I gave up. The groomers were usually nice and did a decent job, but it seemed like there was a lot of turnover. But we mainly quit going because we got tired of being pressured to pay extra for "the works" and on two different occasions they gave our dogs "the works" without our consent and changed us for it. I complained to the store manager the second time it happened and he refused to take the charges off saying that it wouldnt be fair to the groomer who did the work since she would get less money. I told him the groomer would make even less off us if we took our business elsewhere, but he didnt seem to care about that. We now go to Dogz Rule for grooming (they do an awesome job & cost less than Petco). For dog food we go to Denson Feed & Seed Store. Plus I like that Im now giving more of my money to local businesses.

Experienced marine aquarist here. Bought a couple fish that seemed healthy, got a very good price for them. They wouldnt eat anything. Tried live food, frozen food, pellets, flakes, and tried all of them with and appetite stimulant. Went back into store and asked what they fed the fish. Bought that. The fish didnt eat it either. They wouldnt show me the fish eating in the store, and they mentioned that they might now eat for a few days while they adjust to a new tank. They dont take returns on marine fish. I had to open the fish food they sold me, so it couldnt be returned either. The fish eventually starved to death. If there was an option for zero stars that would be my choice.

I have just endured the last of several terrible experiences at Petco. All of the fish I have purchased at Petco died within 2 weeks, most within 2 days. Customer service issues have all been handled VERY poorly. An employees dog bit my 3 year old daughter and the response I got from the manager on duty was, "What do you want me to do about it?" (To be fair, the store manager later followed up with a phone call and apology.) I cant tell you how glad I was to see that were getting a Petsmart! I urge everyone to avoid Petco if at all possible! I, for one, will not set foot in that store again.

This is a typical Petco. It feels somewhat dirty, especially around the crickets and worm refrigerator. They are slow and understaffed. I feel sorry for the poor parrots they keep there; they all look sick and unhappy. Their prices are way too high and their selection isnt great. Half of the store is Petco brand. We go to the Corvallis Petco, because there really isnt another place like it nearby. It’s alright, but petco is not a great pet store in general. Try Animal Crackers, they are a great store that focuses mainly on cats and dogs, but they may have supplies for other animals as well.

3 of the 4 groomers were awesome. But there was one woman who kept giving me obedience advice when my dog was doing nothing wrong. "He just needs to learn when to not be crazy." Apparently being crazy means not wanting to get his nails cut. Not only that but when we got there and entered into the tiny waiting room, another dog came out, started going nuts wanting to meet my dog so when my dog showed interest in meeting she asked me if MY dog had done obedience. Im sorry, but if I wanted training advice I would have asked for it. Just cut my dogs nails.
