I purchased a 2006 Honda Ridgeline on Aug 14th, 2015. I drove from Maryland to Ohio (About 250 miles each way) to get this particular vehicle that had a decent price for what options I was looking for. I got to the dealership and test drove the vehicle for about 20-25 minutes. During the test drive the check engine light came on. I took it back to the dealership and brought it to their attention. I asked if they could look at the code and get me the specifics on what the issue is. They came back with a code (P0741). This can be anything from as simple as dirty transmission fluid to the entire transmission. After some discussion I was ready to walk. Said my goodbyes and thanks. I was offered to go look around the lot after that and see if anything else may have struck me. At this time I was looking for something pretty specific, but decided to take a walk to see (You never really know!). Made it about halfway around the lot and the salesman drove up to me and said that they would take the hit and replace the transmission fluid and see if that fixes it. With Honda, that means you have to drain/fill it 3 separate times with driving it 15 mins in between each drain/fill. So my fiance and I decided to get some early dinner while this happened. Got back to the dealership and test drove it again. Seemed to still be doing ok and decided to buy it after a 2nd look over and drive! Ended up getting a hotel and staying in town since the deal took longer than expected. After about an hour of driving the next day the engine light came back on. In MD, you have to get a state inspection done to get tags and make it "Safe and road worthy". I took it to a Honda Dealership and got a quote for $7500 in repairs. Brakes and rotors on the front needed replaced, Axle and CV joint and a transmission will need to be replace. In my mind, that is one opinion and overpriced (Dealerships do that often). The mechanic tells me that Im free to take it elsewhere and get another opinion, but he is seeing metal shavings in the fluid and it smells burnt. When I told him it has been driven less than 300 miles after a AT fluid flush he reiterates that it is for sure a transmission and it shouldve been easily noticed during the last flush. So, of course, I take it to another mechanic (The mechanic that works on all my landlords vehicles over the years). Same response. Im not 100% satisfied. I take it to a 3rd shop... same results. Smells burnt and metal shavings. Mind you, I told the salesman that I was purchasing a truck cause I was getting married and needed something reliable, because I am driving from Maryland to Indiana next month. Stressed that quite a few times. Now here I am 4 days before the best day of my life and my transmission is being rebuilt. In HOPES that it is done tomorrow so I can drive it 550 miles and haul all the wedding supplies there and back. Also the new $4500 bill on repairs 4 days before the wedding that (anyone that had an average wedding knows) is not so cheap. The GM did contact me directly and is sending me some money for my troubles. Ive raised my initial rating since he was very apologetic and is at least trying to do something for me. I did not ask how much, but will get in the mail in the next 4-7 days according to him.

Well I should have stuck to my first thought of not buying anything from Coughlin. I had problems with Coughlin Chevrolet years ago when they were in Hebron Ohio. Actually had to pull my truck out of their Bay not fixed and towed it home because of something they broke and they wanted me to pay for. So against my better judgement, I bought my boy a car about 6 months ago from Coughlin Toyota in Heath Ohio. We bought a used 2005 cavalier. I felt like we got a pretty good deal on it. And had a great experience with the salesmen. So we decided to go back in November and buy a new / used 2014 Toyota Corolla S. The windshield was chipped in a couple spots so they gave us an IOU to fix it. So after the first time washing the car I also noticed the fog light on the driver side was sitting back a little farther than it was suppose to be. Didnt really think much about it just figured it was loose or something so never called them about it. My fault I guess. So after 4 months of calling and stopping by the dealership, and talking to salesman, two managers (Tyler and Gary) and a parts guy (Bill ) I finally got my car in to be fixed on March 11th. I also asked him to check the fog light for me see if they can adjust it out. So they called me when the car was done and of course the fog lights housing was broken. So they want 200 and some odd dollars to fix it. The 200 some dollars is just for the light, NOT to put it in. The service guy talked to the managers and guess what? Managers not willing to help me out. Once again my fault for not reporting it, I guess. So needless to say after about $20,000 later. Ill be getting my car serviced in Columbus. Dont plan on giving ANY Coughlin dealerships anymore of my money. I feel they were great when they were selling me the cars but once I purchased the cars their customer service was lacking. Good luck to you all. Dean Slone

I purchased a Toyota Tacoma that would beep every time the lock or unlock buttons on the key fob were activated. According to the owner’s manual, the owner cannot turn this feature off by his/herself, but you can take the vehicle to the dealer to have it turned off. I made an appointment with Coughlin to have the beep turned off, and was amazed when the service department rep told me the technicians could not turn off the beep. When I told her the owner’s manual states the dealer can turn it off, she told me that I was wrong and that they had even “called Toyota” and verified it was not possible to turn off the beep. On my Coughlin service department invoice, it states “No availability to change” next to that item. This simply did not make sense to me, so I researched it on Tacoma message boards and found simple instructions how to turn off the beep by myself! Hey, Coughlin, since you say it’s impossible to turn off the beep, here’s how you do it: Step one: Open the driver’s door and insert the key into the ignition Step two: Remove the key from the ignition and, within 5 seconds, reinsert the key back into the ignition and switch to the on position Step three: After 10 seconds, the system enters the answer-back mode Step four: Within 10 seconds of the answer-back beep the switching mode is started, press the remote twice and the system will turn off/on based upon which the system is set Since Coughlin couldn’t complete this simple task and even told me they “called Toyota” for instructions, I will have a hard time trusting them in the future.

My wife began our journey to purchasing a 3rd family car for the kids to use. Given the fact we live where the snow flies we narrowed it down to a reliable Toyota 4Runner. As fate would have it the color my wife loved was concrete. Little did we know that meant tying to find a needle in the haystack! Especially since concrete is only available in the TRD package and will be obsoleted next year! Thats where Coughlin came into play. By posting an ad on the internet via Car Max I was able to triangulate on this car at their dealership. In a matter of 48 hours I was able to purchase the car via wire transfer and shuttle paperwork back and forth overnight. Steven Gutowitz shepherded me through the process and made everything seamless. His willingness to pick up the phone and stick with me through the entire process without even meeting in person was incredible. I really appreciate the professionalism and doggedness to get the deal done! Our entire family is totally stoked to add this amazing vehicle to our modest collection of SUVs. Thanks to Steven and the entire Coughlin staff for making this possible. Especially while on vacation in northern Michigan ! -Dan Byrne
