Great Place!! Theres a few things that a lot of Americans do thats really quite annoying. 1. complaints about corporate greed and economic turmoil-however continuously shopping/referring people to go/shop at corporations! Its maddening. Literally, in all seriousness theyll complain about corporations whilst spending 100% of their paychecks there! Newsflash, small biz employs 90%+ of all American workers, corporation income is NEVER put back into the local economy, small biz income? Well only 95% plus gets put back into the economy! 2. Place emotions over logic and reasoning-now we are getting political really? As if a store needs to be in line with your worldly views to shop there? What is this North Korea? Newsflash, corporate CEOs are some of the biggest Marcist in the world. They want you to shop at their establishment, that way the little guy gets stomped out and they have a monopoly! Take a loon around you! You people are the CAUSE of economic collapse! 3. You will literally allow a corporation to get away with MURDER, provide awful services, cold food, slave child labor, and continue to shop and shop and shop there! All the while giving the small guy ONE chance-oh boy if he doesnt meet your expectations 100% youre not going back. This wouldnt be so bad if you wouldnt constantly claim-you care about the "poor", underdog, little guy. Its really maddening. As a fellow biz owner, I see it. Ill shop small biz as much as Possible. If I can stand fast food being wrong 80 percent of the time, I can take a little attitude. Great shop!!

A hidden "Hardware Gem". Whatever hard to find hardware item you need, you can find it at Salem Hardware. They stock items that the big box stores just cant stock. The old hardware store atmosphere is just awesome and brings back a lot of great memories. As far as the review left by bentrider, are you serious? you obviously havent done a lot of ladder work, when a man is standing on a ladder changing light bulbs, his mind is focused on safety, like not falling or possibly dropping a flouresent light bulb on a customer who doesnt have enough sense to get out of the way. If you think "The home depot" is going to give you a better buying experience, then have at it. All Ive ever gotten from their employees when asking a question is a blank stare or a "I dont know, this isnt my department". I WILL keep supporting my local small businesses like Salem Hardware even if the owner doesnt give me a warm and fuzzy feeling everytime I go there. Hes obviously doing something right, been in business for a long time.

Would love to shop small business (and usually do) but cannot justify shopping here. The owner, Steve, is very angry and rude. If you dont believe me, I challenge you to find any other small business with as many negative reviews (on various sites) as Salem Hardware has. Or, simply go buy something and make the mistake of asking a question - youll never go back. Its a shame, would be a cool store if not for the owner. *** look no further than at his own response! "Emotional, child"? Im just a customer that does not want to spend my hard-earned money to be treated like sh**. So yes, Ill "burden" any other business with my money. How are you in business again?

the owner is completely unhinged. Edit: if you read below my review, youll see that like a typical thin skinned, overly emotional manchild, the owner decided to respond to bad reviews, obviously not understanding that you need to have a thick skin to be a business owner. The owner loves to pick fights on Facebook about political issues that he has no understanding of, then cry when his illogical arguments are torn apart. Im sure this store was good in 1954, but in 2017 theres no reason to bother. And yes, Ive been to this store. The owner is much more interested in pushing his political agenda than selling products. Maybe hes in the wrong biz?

Everytime Ive been here, Ive found what I needed and/or was assisted with any issues I had. I dont understand why there are so many negative reviews, the owner seems to just want to provide people with quality merchandise and help with whatever you need. Even when there was something he didnt offer, he was able to give me a few places to check out for those purposes. My sister was even able to find carpenter pencils that werent available at any of the large-scale hardware retailers for miles. I definitely recommend checking this place out.

Best hardware store around! Sure, politics come into play sometimes but you have to have a sense of humor! Its his business and he can run it how he pleases! If you arent a snowflake, this is the place to shop! The owner is very knowledgeable when it comes to every item he sells and projects you are working on. If you get offended by the political commentary then I recommend purchasing a hand warmer to use on your butthurt bottom. They are usually located on the front counter or to the left next to the cleaning supplies.

Walking in, I couldnt figure out whether this was a hardware store or a right wing pleasure palace. They seemed to have hardware items, so I continued in. Before I even began looking for what I came for, I saw the owner (at least, who I assume to have been the owner) guffaw out loud over a naive question from a customer. The customer meant no harm, but was treated as if they completely interrupted the owner. I like to use local stores, but I wont use this one. Youll be treated much better at Lowes or Home Depot.

This clown is the classic "I got my a** whipped in high school so Im mad at the world" kind of toolbox that nobody likes. Hes also about 53" which explains the obsession with guns. In any case, while the store itself might be OK, hes a terrible human being and rude to about 99% of his customers. Avoid his store - people like this do not deserve your hard-earned money. And his dimwitted attempts at snarky responses to legitimate customer reviews tells you all you need to know about Mr. Duffey.

Friendly and much more helpful than the big box stores, they were able to answer all of my questions. I go here for all of my hardware needs. Buy local! Dont believe the 1 star reviews since the middle of 2016. The owner put up several Trump campaign signs and this is just the usual liberal nonsense of trying to silence opinions they dont agree with. Its funny how liberals are all about free speech until someone has the audacity to disagree with them.

DO NOT shop here. The owner is an angry, antagonistic lunatic. Tried to return a $14.00 product a month after purchase with original receipt - he threw it back over the counter at me and told me to take my business elsewhere as he didnt take returns after 15 days. He then added a couple of insults as I walked out the door with my young daughter. Real classy. So much for supporting local businesses - go to Lowes or Home Depot, dont make my mistake.

I had a great experience. This place is a jewel in the Anderson area. I was in a bind and thought I would drop in and see if they could help me find a certain kind of nut and bolt. Steve was super knowledgeable and probably saved me a ton of time trying to find what I needed. I recommend this hardware store to anyone who wants in depth knowledge and great customer service. Great prices too!
