I will start by saying that I am very glad that Save-A-Lot is so close to my house and that the store is clean and the workers are friendly. Its generally a great place to shop. This review is an indictment of the customer service I received via the phone by a polite lady named Brittany. Heres the story, on 5/14 I tried to purchase a gift card for a friend, but there was a mix up at the register and my credit card was charged but the gift card was never activated. On 5/15, trash day in my neighborhood, my friend whom I gave the gift card tried to use it and was turned away empty handed. Since I was not able to provide a receipt for them to verify my purchase.The policies in place by management did not enable her to assist me. She went as far to say to go back and check my card and that there was no way I could be charged in this instance. I have since disputed the charge via my credit card company, so I am not out any cash. I am angry that my friend, who is poor, had his poverty thrown in his face when he tried to use the gift card that I gave him. I am embarrassed and upset that he had to go through that in addition to all the things he deals with on a daily basis.

The basic grain bread costs more than cookies and waffles combined. Frozen section full of pizzas. Items would be randomly 25-50% more expensive than standard grocers. The only items that have bargains are unhealthy foods and some produce.

I love that the Staff is always consistant and turn over is low. I can always find what I need at an amazing price. I always feel welcomed and staff is always personable and kind. Hard to find with the bigger grocers.

This store is in a Very Bad Section of Durham. Armed Security in the Store. Lock your car!! Store closes at 9 P.M. due to the fact its a dangerous neighborhood. Prices are somewhat reasonable.

Store was clean and well stocked. Cashier was pleasant and friendly. I will shop there again, the prices was reasonable and the meat was fresh looking.
