they have a good layout and their produce certainly has produce you wouldnt find in other store. they offer a lot of latin flavored foods too but also african. the only drawback which is somewhat consistent is meat and poultry. i once bought chicken legs, or what i thought was chicken. thought it to be incredibly large but sucked it up to hormones they inject in animals. that was no chicken i bought. wife told me it was turkey. here and there ill buy meat. id freeze it for another week or so only to find a portion of it changing color once thawed. in my opinion, happens too often. lastly, music is turned up too high. this is my complaint for a lot of places you go nowadays.

Good on a few select sale items, but not the greatest quality on some meats, very thin sliced pork, and beef for the pricing. Better pricing at food lion/Wal-Mart if you want non meat groceries. $1.79 for Kraft Mac n cheese or idahoan potatoes is crazy. Sure a 10# bag of chicken for $4.90 on sale is good, yet the chicken seem kinda small. I can see coming here for sale items, and some select things. Yet for the most part this will not be my go-to store for shopping! Definitely a store to shop for goya, jalapenos, rices, duros, hot sauces, and much more Hispanic related items. Its just one of the stores where you weigh out the balance with quality with pricing..

This international grocery store is a hidden gem in Durham, but it takes some navigating to find the best deals. The fresh produce section is amazing -- both in diversity of items (whole, fresh banana leaves!) and quality. Also check out the meat section for its variety of cuts and types, but know that this isnt the place to find your free-range/local/organic selection, but its great if you just want to eat good + cheap! The sauce section is also great, and there are plenty of Caribbean and African food options in the aisle -- five different kinds of fufu!

Terrible experience here. Shoddy appearance from the outside, beggars as you approach, and dingy inside. To top it all off, the cashier was neither nice nor warm, and her only spoken word to me was my change (incorrectly stated, I might add). She directly resumed slouching over the conveyor. Terrible. Take the three extra minutes and go to the Super Target at South Square.

The staff are not that helpful. No one asks if you need help if they see you struggling in the aisles. I asked if they had a specific item while at the counter, it took them a while to figure it out then sent me to look for it, when i came empty handed they asked if i found it, i said no and they just brushed it off.

I have shopped there many times. It is best described as an ethnic latino supermarket. They stock many unusual fresh fruits, vegetables and prepared products from Mexico and the Carribean. If you are expecting Food Lion, Kroger, or WalMart, you will not find it to your liking.

Ive been shopping at Compare for about two years. Clean, uncluttered aisles, very-well stocked shelves. top quality produce and meats. Friendly, helpful staff. Its a very Durham sort of place, a neighborhood feel. Lots of regular customers.

I love coming here. Its always clean, meats are very affordable, and I can find anything I need to prepare my favorite traditional Puerto Rican foods. I love the music! Often I catch myself dancing down the aisles. Gracias Compare Foods!
