Im a commuter biker who got my bike from them 5 years ago. Ive been a member ever since. The service is great, I love all the repair/technicians they are great, knowable and quite flexible in helping. They have some free classes and events that get held now and then. Most of them are bike enthusiasts themselves so they speak from firsthand experience. If you come here often you may find an employee whose opinion fits your needs best. Dont be afraid to ask them questions. They have a nice selection of various items. Some more of than others. Anything they dont have can often be ordered in from their catalog. Just got to let them know what you need and they can help recommend things. Now they do have policies they follow and they let you know upfront about them. I have ordered a couple of items from them and gotten what I was looking for. On the repair and tune up side. Often times, if they are not busy they will help on adjustments and minor repairs right away. If they are busy, then it may be a wait. Now their tune up and clean up service does need to be scheduled in advance. They cannot serve all bikes at once and it is time consuming. I often schedule ahead of time by a week or two during the popular season (it is also due to my commuting schedule). Winter times I can usually get in within the next 3 days or so. Also listen and read their policies they have you sign. It gives them permission to work on your bike and also state how to get your bike back from them (so some random person doesnt state it is their bike and walks off with it). Ive had them call if they need to do something else and get permission for it. Now prices I think they are reasonable for this type of store. They arent the cheapest on the market, or the most expensive. Biking goods do tend to be pricier due to design for outdoor and specialty use. I personally have had their products worked well and Im quite mean to my bike stuff and gone thru a few accidents. Some things you can get cheaper elsewhere, but based upon my experience its longevity is often less from other places, especially helmets. If you are getting a new bike, I highly recommend a membership since the number of points or money value you get is great. For anyone who plans to regularly shop here, the membership pays off. I use the points all the time for surprise expenses. Some save them up for big items others use it with every purchase. Up to you but however you use them it saves you money. They do get some nice sales that last a nice amount of time for tire tubes, and bike glasses among other products.

We bought our bikes at Performance Bike after looking at a number of local bike shops. We were very happy with our purchase and the service during our first bike buying experience but it was the maintenance service that has blown us away and secured us as a customer for as long as we own bikes. My husband got three flats in three rides and as one can imagine it was unbelievably frustrating for us. Performance came through every time and worked tirelessly (no pun intended) to make sure we were taken care to the best of their ability. Along the way we asked a number of questions to the staff all of which were met with educated and experienced answers and a great attitude. They were apologetic about the issues we were having despite it not being any fault of theirs and gave us great service each time we came in until the problem was resolved. With a fixed bike and more knowledge, weve been enjoying rides every weekend since. Performance has an excellent staff that I trust and respect and I wouldnt recommend anywhere else.

I just returned from a very satisfying experience at the Chapel Hill store. I had a problem with a flat tire and was directed to the mechanics section where Scott was extremely helpful. My tire had become flat for unknown reasons (i.e. - not the usual puncture or tire pinch, etc.) and Scott was able to quickly appreciate the curious nature of this problem and resolve my issue immediately. Here-to-fore Id tended to look on large commercial bike operations as places where you may not get much individual attention. Well . . . this experience has enlightened me to the fact that you can indeed get great service at a large shop with Performance in Chapel Hill. This will be my go to place for any future biking needs.

I went in for the first time today and was so impressed! I had recently purchased a brand new bike from somewhere else and was already having trouble with it. I walked into Performance Bicycle and they checked it out for me on the spot. It became clear I was going to need to just return the original bike so I bought a new one from Performance Bicycle. I was really appreciative of the workers- they seemed to genuinely want to help you find a bike thats a good fit. They also give their bikes a quick inspection before you walk out the door, so you know its up to par.

I went in just to get a seasonal tune up on my bike, I knew going in I needed new pedals, and handle bar grips, which I was not trying to replace but I was told they were going to charge me a couple hundred dollars to clean it and get it in working order. I left and took it to a local shop and 3 days and 60 dollars later I was back on the road. If you are looking for a new bike or a trainer for your home, you can get great prices there because they carry in bulk. If you are looking for someone to do some work on your bike, look local.

Absolutely pathetic customer service! Buyer beware. Ordered product which I never received. Performance shipped item with no signature required. Item was stolen from doorstep. Performance refused to indemnify me "The Customer" until they were indemnified by the shipper. Apparently I purchased the product from the shipper and not Performance. Had to pay for the item again in order to get it shipped and then wait for a refund until Performance got reimbursed for their own screw up. I was a long time customer. NEVER AGAIN!

I almost didnt bother to go in after reading some of these reviews. (Im not only a woman, but over 60). A salesman named Chris came over and answered lots of questions I had about my current bike setup/ riding posture/ neck and arm concerns etc. And, from the upshot I told him I was not currently shopping for a new bike - just wanting to get info so that when/if I needed to upgrade, I would be a bit wiser. He gave me hints on how to make my current bike workable. He may have earned a customer when that time comes!

I walked in with my bike to be fixed, just some minor things. I waited for 15 minutes while the FOUR salespeople just stood around and acted busy. There was ONE guy who knew how anything worked in the store, and the other three neither knew nor cared anything about bikes. That poor guy was slammed, having to deal with repairs, customers, and basically run the store by himself. How those other people got hired, I have no clue. I just hope the bike repair goes okay.
