We bought a very nice used Trek 400 for an amazing price (only $175, but it was practically brand new!). I avoided them before because of some high estimations for bike repair, opting to go check out performance bicycle. They moved a few miles away, so I figured Id give the bicycle chain another try. The service was prompt and they were friendly/knowledgeable. The only thing I was disappointed about was theyre unwillingness to try and fix my brake levers/shifters on my road bike. It hadnt been ridden in a couple years, so I figured it would just be a cable problem, but they said it needed to be replaced (new set at a minimum of $150). I decided to check online for a cheaper pair, and ended up getting advice from a craigslister to just spray em up with some WD-40. Worked like magic, at least for the right one, saving me a bunch of money! Just have to get new cables for the left (as I originally expected) and it should be good to go. All in all, good service but could use some more thorough inspection when repairing bikes.

This is an awesome bike shop! They have been super helpful to me and my wife, and have proven to be really reliable and reasonable with their prices. The shop manager, Jackson, has gone out of his way so many times for me. When I brought my bike in for a creaky bottom bracket, Jackson identified a defective part on my 6 year old frame. He called the manufacturer and had my frame warrantied. He was able to get me a brand new frame, and I didnt even buy the bike from Bicycle Chain. Also, my wife had a great experience with Des at the Durham location. Des did an awesome job fitting Maria to her new Amira and her old triathlon bike, has been more than willing to readjust the fit months later. Both shops are great and I highly recommend them to any cyclist (except to the person that wrote a negative review about a $250 bike being too expensive. Thats equivalent to going into a BMW dealership and asking for a car that is in the price range of a Kia. Go to Walmart if youre looking for $50 bike).

All decent companys can provide good service when things go well. The true test is when there is a problem and how that company responds. I recently brought a bike back to the Bicycle Chain that was almost 10years old. I had never been happy with the way the bike road. They spent the time to look at it and determined there was a manufacturer defect in the fork. Then they worked with the manufacturer to find a replacement fork which was no longer available. The bike was 10 years old. They had no real obligation to me other than they cared about me as customer. There is a reason they have been around for 20 some years. Buy your bike from them. They will take care of you.

If you are looking for a bike light or a helmet, than you will probably leave a good review. But DONT BUY A BIKE HERE! We did. The bike was all messed up and they told me that I was just "riding hard". We found out that they hadnt assembled it probably after a half year of them saying that it was our fault that the bike was broken. They also said the we needed to buy a new chain when the bike was only 2 weeks old. All they care about is making money.

Excellent shop and tremendous customer service, especially if youre serious about bikes and dont mind spending a bit more than the cheapest thing online. The employees are friendly and their passion with bikes is contagious. Theyve helped me get fitted with my road bike which has made it much more comfortable and enjoyable.

$12 for a bicycle lock at Lowes, over $30 for the exact same lock at this store. This place is all quality with no value, even the stores as close as Carrboro have far more reasonable prices and labor rates along with a much less snobby attitude. I know several motorcycle repair shops with lower labor rates than these guys.

Cheapest bike they had: a $250 used bike. Ok, fair enough, they are "fancy". I bought a bike on Amazon for $85. It came unassembled, but I could mostly assemble it myself, except for seat, handlebars and brakes. They wanted $100 to tighten my seat/handlebars and assemble the brakes. Absolutely abusive.

I cant speak to what they offer to people who bike casually or only want a cheap beater bike, but their maintenance on higher end bikes is fantastic. Very reasonable prices and every time Ive needed something fixed theyve thrown in a lot of tune-up work at no charge - great guys.

Main line Cannondale. Didnt open on time. Not especially friendly. My bike was making a noise and they wouldnt check it out for me even though there was no one else in the shop. $80+ for tube/tire

Pricey. Slow turn around on bike tune-up (5 days). When got bike back it had shifting problems. Had to return twice to get it redone.
