Chris Van Dyke is a master custom jewelry craftsman. After several years of trying to find a custom jeweler who would take on my rather difficult project of creating a squared-off version of the Mystic Knot and fill the 10 square holes with identically-sized diamonds and birthstones, no one was even willing to consider taking it on. Then, while on vacation, I walked into Chriss Asheville store, almost by accident, and casually mentioned to him that I had had a custom pendant project floating around in my head for a few years. Chis seemed immediately interested; so, we began long-distance communication via email. He became more intrigued with the project and I became more and more convinced that he was the right craftsman for the job with the right level of professional skill and the personal integrity needed to complete a project to the satisfaction of a totally compulsive person who obsesses over details (me). In the end, the pendant has turned out beautifully and it soon will become probably the best Christmas present I have ever given my wife.

After talking with a few jewelers around town, Chris felt to me like the right person for the job. I wanted to get a piece of star rutilated quartz quartz set in a gold bezel. He is familiar with Ayurvedic jewelry and so was able to custom design a bezel that would allow the stone to touch my skin as I wear it. He called me to come in and take a look at what he had when he wanted to know if I liked it, but when something pretty much had to go a certain way with the project, he went ahead and took initiative. He made sure that the piece was to my liking and even started again from scratch when it wasnt totally what I had in mind. At the end of the process, the stone and bezel were perfect. He ended up using more gold than he thought he would, but he didnt charge me a penny over what he quoted me at. I am grateful for his work and will consistently recommend him. Chris is another Asheville craftsman who is very skilled and fulfilled by what he does.

We headed to Van Dyke Jewelry at the recommendation of friends of ours who had had a ring custom made by Chris. I chose a unique piece as an engagement ring and Chris was able to size it before we left town for the day. The piece is unlike anything youd find anywhere else. My fiance opted for a custom band with a sapphire inlay. The design process was straightforward and enjoyable. I brought some stones in for Chris to make into earrings. Our goal was to create a design that would compliment a ring I had. Both the ring and the stones were gifts from my parents and were very sentimental to me. Chris came up with three beautiful designs for me to choose from with various pricing options. I dont live in the Asheville area, so Chris and I communicated by email which worked out great. He kept me updated on his progress and sent me pictures. He got them ready to coincide with my trip to Asheville and the earrings were everything I had hoped for. Chris designs beautiful, artistic pieces that make you feel like you are wearing art. Purchasing an engagement ring is quite a daunting task. I went to several other jewelry shops in Asheville and was underwhelmed to say the least. Chris at Van Dyke was absolutely a pleasure to work with. Unlike other shops that just want you to point at ring and try to sell you something at the top of your budget, he crafted a stunning ring with my input. The service provided by this jeweler was outstanding. He mounted a stone that had a particular family value; truly not much, if any, financial value. I brought in my own mountings, purchased through a jewelry supply store and rather than say that he could not use something I brought in, he went to work.
