Many of the new items instock are weird faux brands that arent necessarily well priced. Quality name brand items are usually overpriced. Theres an extra amount that Im willing to pay to support a local business but this exceeds it. Every once in a while a good used piece of clothing comes around as with most used gear shops. Ive rarely found good deals on hardgoods unless they are mispriced such as easton ultralight stakes priced the same as the solid aluminum hook ones (crazy). When I took a lot of my used items in, I was doing it as an alternative to the goodwill so wasnt too perturbed by not seeing much return. However its pretty crazy to see a mystery fill-power down jacket from the 90s priced at 60 bucks and when all was said and done, I only saw 20 dollars for the Arcteryx Jacket I left there. Couldve definitely made more money on craigslist or ebay if I had the time.

Weve only had good experiences at Second Gear. The staff have been cheerful and helpful. They dont always have certain items, but weve bought new and used things, and the gear was reasonably priced for the quality and apparent wear. I just bought two pairs of consigned pants and a jacket for my son. Theyre all in fantastic shape - they look like theyve never been worn. I looked up the brands online, I discovered I had paid a third the cost of those pants new and half the cost of the jacket new. VERY happy with the pricing. Since the remodel, the store is also easier to navigate.

Some friends and I drove up from Atlanta last weekend to climb Mount Mitchell. We reached the summit successfully on Friday, but one of our crew blew out a boot. We headed straight to 2nd Gear. Not only did he find a great deal on some lightly used boots, but the guys that worked there gave us directions to a great camp spot for Saturday night. I will be back and will proudly shill for them with their sticker on my Jeep.

Its like a way better version of play-it-again sports. This place has awesome outdoor gear for great prices. I wish I had known about this place a long time ago and probably would have a much thicker wallet. Also a great place to turn in your unused gear or technical apparel to get a few extra bucks.

Trek 2300 bike I purchased at Second Gear is turning out to be more than I hoped for . I am amazed at how much lighter and faster it is than my old mtn. bike. And best of all I got a really good deal. Dont say my deals alway work out but this one appears to be a good one.

I would call this a pawnshop for anything that has to do with outdoor activities. They got bikes, clothing, shoes, accessories basically everything your regular outdoor goods store would have. Just with a mix of used gear, which is priced pretty fairly btw. VHD

There might be a few gems here, but good luck finding them. Not much organization, OLD gear at absurd prices. Someone here needs to learn to say no. There was a 10+ year old snowboard in the window for $300. What a joke.

These guys are great! Ive gotten a lot of quality items at their store, and they have sold some items for me as well. I make it a point to stop in every few weeks just to see new items. Some great deals!

Nothing but good experiences here. They are some older gear in here and its still functional, everything Ive gotten there works. Staff is friendly and helpful. Just finished the remodle and looks great!
