I took some jewelry that had been my grandmothers in for appraisal because I know I will not wear it and it seems pointless to hang on to it when other things such as my old photos of her are better souvenirs of my memory and enjoyment of her. Nonetheless, it was daunting to consider the process of getting it appraised and figuring out the best avenues for moving it along, especially since I had no idea whether the pieces were valuable or costume jewelry. I certainly wouldnt want things that were once dear to my grandmother to be lost in some shady transaction. The folks at John Laughter Jewelry were all incredibly warm and welcoming and inspected each piece with professional tools right within my view and gave me an assessment of each item from various standpoints and did not pressure or sway any of my decisions. They were willing to buy any of the gold and silver for remelt and advised me to personally sell or keep pieces that would yield a better profit to me as collector items than what they pay for the metal. They did not make me feel awkward at all, even thought the majority of what I had was only costume jewelry. I also appreciated that they didnt refer to the costume pieces in any derogatory way or make any assumptions without carefully inspecting each item. They understood that regardless of resale value on any of the pieces there was emotional value as well and that it was hard to reach the decision of selling any of it. I had been really nervous before hand, but I felt really good about the whole experience and appreciate how honest and helpful they were. It was clear that they only want to engage in everyone-wins scenarios, which is a great way to operate! If I ever need to repair any of the antique pieces I am keeping or custom make something from the family pieces or buy a special gift, I would be more than happy to do business with them again!

My fiancé and I commented 2 weeks ago about our wonderful experience choosing an engagement ring setting at John Laughter. We went back recently to pick up the finished ring, and once again Jimmy Koutsioumbis was extremely helpful, courteous and honest. Furthermore, the engagement ring is gorgeous. We are absolutely thrilled with their work. Because we got such an honest price on the engagement ring, we were able to purchase another piece of jewelry as a gift for my fiancés mother, which also looks great. Jimmy was once again patient and personable while working with us. We will definitely come back to John Laughter. Original review: My fiancé and I went to John Laughter Jewelry to purchase a new engagement ring setting and to have a family diamond set in it. Our experience was a tremendously positive one. Although we were working with a tight budget, we were treated as if we had come to buy a $15,000 piece of jewelry. Jimmy Koutsioumbis is the gentleman who helped us and he was a consummate professional; extraordinarily respectful and impressively honest. He worked with us for as long as we needed and did not try to rush us or push anything on us. There is no one we would rather do business with and we will DEFINTELY go back there to work with Jimmy again. The prices at this John Laughter are very reasonable and they are marked clearly in the showcases where they can be seen at all times! This makes shopping for jewelry much more comfortable. Thanks so much for your help, Jimmy! -Pete and Amanda

I dropped my engagement ring off for an appraisal; I like that they charge a flat fee for appraisals rather than a percentage of the value of the piece. I was told appraisals typically take a week and a half, but someone would call me when my ring was ready. I did not receive a phone call, but when I called after a week and a half my ring was ready. The value had increased quite a bit from the original appraisal so I decided to get my wedding band appraised as well. Once again I was told it would be a week and a half. Going through my purse I noticed the pick up date fell on a Sunday so I called the Friday before to see if it might be ready or if they were open on Sunday. I was told they were closed on Sunday, but it should be ready Monday. I called again the following Wednesday to be told it wasnt ready, but someone would call when it was ready. I stopped by Saturday only to discover my ring hadnt been appraised, but as appraisals only take a few days it would be ready in the next few days. I received a call a full week later that my ring was ready. I received one apology about the delay, and no one offered a discounted price on the appraisal even though I called twice to check on my ring which gave two opportunities for the mistake to be corrected without my knowledge of the mistake.

I recently went through the process of shopping for an engagement ring. After visiting some of the corporate type jewelry stores in the Asheville Mall I was referred by a friend at work to try John Laughter Jewelry on Hendersonville Road in Asheville. The first time I stopped by their location they were closed but I happened to catch the owner in the parking lot and he was nice enough to speak with me for about 30+ minutes about what I was looking for even though the store had already closed for the day. I returned several days later during store hours and had a awesome experience due to the assistance I received from Laura Laughter. She was very patient and kind answering all my questions. She did make suggestions but wasnt pushy at all and was very respectful of the budget I told her I had to stay under. After my store visit Laura and I stayed in contact via email for several weeks until I made my purchasing decision. Every time I visit their location it has been a warm and friendly atmosphere. The next time you are in the market for jewelry of any kind I highly recommend stopping by their location. I promise that you will not be disappointed. I am a customer for life! Thank you Laura and the entire staff at John Laughter Jewelry for making the jewelry buying experience a pleasant one.

My wife and I visited John Laughter Jewelry earlier this year while in the area. As soon as we entered your store, we were warmly greeted by the sales staff, namely Leslie Gearles, who took great care of us! She cleaned my wifes rings, and in doing so, discovered that my wifes engagement ring was missing one of its stones (a small diamond) and a prong on the center diamond. Leslie very professionally priced out the repair and assured us they would take wonderful care of it and see that it arrived safely at our home when the work was done, as we live out of state. She was as good as her word. Within a week, a package arrived with the ring tucked inside a satin pouch. Honestly, it looked better than the day I bought it almost 20 years ago! Not only was the original repair completed, but additional work and cleaning as well. The ring, which had been stained black underneath the main diamond, was shiny and gold again--something no one else had been able to fix. JLJ went above and beyond to help us. They are professional and thorough, friendly and helpful--like a small town jewelry store with folks who treated us like theyd known us for ages. Thank you, Leslie, and thank you John Laughter for a great experience. Well be back!
