The first time I went to Syracuse Bicycle, I brought my then 4 year old road bike with me. I thought I wanted a new one. Paul made some adjustments and gave me some pointers and recommended I keep my bike for another season. At the end of the following season, I emailed Paul to let him know I was ready for my new bike. As I travel from over an hour away, Paul offered to email me a list of bikes that met my needs. He initially sent me a list of more than 10 bikes and after countless emails back and forth (while he was out of town on business), my list was narrowed down to two bikes, but, thanks to Pauls emails, I was truly making an educated decision. He taught me things about fit and components that I never would have known, otherwise. When the day came for my test ride, Paul introduced me to Dan, who would be working with me that day. Dan put my seat and my pedals I brought with me on the first bike, put me on the trainer to ensure it was the proper fit, then took me outside for my test drive. It just wasnt my bike. Dan repeated the process with the second bike and assured me it was ok if I had to go back to the drawing board to choose the bike that was right for me. When I came back into the parking lot, I was beaming and I knew it was the one for me. Dan then spent another 30-45 minutes with me on the trainer ensuring it was exactly the right fit for me. He then sent me out for another test drive and I think my smile got even bigger! Because there were a lot of differences between my other road bike and this one, Dan made sure to point out the differences and taught me how I could use the bikes engineering and technology to improve my riding. By the time I left, I was walking on cloud nine! I had the bike I never dared to dream to own (although its not top of the line), and working with both Paul and Dan only made the whole experience richer. I truly felt that it was important to all the employees there that I was happy and they were celebrating along with me. Since my purchase last year, both Dan and Paul have initiated contact with me to be sure I was happy and to offer further support. I have made the trip more than once since I bought my bike, just to check out their newly remodeled store and to get a few other items for my bike. I will surely purchase another bike from Syracuse Bicycle again and always look forward to visiting them. Regardless of the miles or the weather.

Went with my wife to buy bikes for us. It took forever to get anyone to even talk to us. She settled on a bike after a dangerous "test drive" in the parking lot. I found a bike and on the first ride found mechanical malfunctions. It was taken in the back to be fixed. I reluctantly bought the $500+ bike and a bike rack ($145) for the car. The salesman put on the rack and we drove away. Within 2 miles I had to stop to tighten the rack before the bikes fell off. While adjusting the rack, I noticed that there were holes, nicks and dings in the back of the leather seat. I immediately turned around and drove back to the store. The same salesman offered me a $20 store coupon for compensation for the seat. I had to coax him into ordering me a new saddle arguing that I didnt come here to buy a used bike! I had to stop 4 more times in a 50 mile drive to continually adjust the bike rack. I rode the bike for 30 minutes when I got home. Got a flat tire! Took the bike back to the store the next day and the same sales man came out and explained without remorse or apology "Bikes get flat tires buddy. Want to buy a new tube for the bike?" I told him that I wanted to return the bike and the rack and without argument or even another word he walked back into the store and credited my card. I had no sooner signed the receipt and he was gone. I will NEVER return to that store for ANYTHING!

Two thumbs up. Well merchandised, knowledgeable, kind and helpful salespeople. The selection was larger and more complete than any store I could find from Albany to Rochester. My salesperson was great. She was very patient with my lack of knowledge but still somehow managed to stay excited and engaged. We spent a lot of time deciding on the ideal bike option, along with all the needed accessories (which added up way too quick). I love my bike but most impressive were the fit services I purchased. I chose to upgrade the included basic fit for their top of the line fitting service. I have to admit, the service itself was a bit pricey but it was well worth both the experience and the outcome. I can’t imagine that David, the fitter (whom I believe is also a kinesiologist), all that 3D motion capture equipment and dynamic fit bike came cheap, so I imagine all of that stuff justified the cost. I would have never imagined any local shop would make an investment like that in equipment or even offer that level of service. I left impressed, comfortable and fired up about my new bike. I have trouble keeping myself out of there. It doesn’t help that it is an addictive sport.

Full Disclosure: My wife and I are frequent shoppers at Syracuse Bicycle. Theyve been very good to us from day 1, and weve repaid them with loyalty. Always helpful with great service, and never condescending. In reading some of the other reviews, its clear that most of them are positive, but like most businesses, a couple are negative. I guess no one bats a 1000 all of the time, but I am certain that the owners Paul and Trish would love to hear directly from anyone thats had a negative experience. Not only is the shop great, but Ive done a lot of group and charity rides that were led by Syracuse Bicycle, and despite being the biggest shop in town, they still spend a ton of time giving back to the community. The owners Paul and Trish "get it," and as a result, their employees do as well. Again, if you have a negative experience Id urge you to reach out to the owners. For that matter, Im guessing theyd love to hear from you when you have a positive experience as well!

A great selection of bikes and a good selection of gear, but after several visits last summer, I wont be returning. The owners are very helpful, but some of the staff are not very knowledgeable. On one trip looking for a part, I was given the wrong one, even though I clearly described what I was looking for. When I returned, one of the owners immediately agreed that I had been given the wrong part (two single brake handles for the same side of the handlebars instead of a matched pair left/right). On a repair job, there was a problem with the repair that should have been obvious when the bike was being repaired (after replacement of a bottom bracket, the inner chainring was rubbing against the chainstay). Both times, corrections were immediately made, no questions asked, when I returned, but it is a hassle to have to return to the shop to get it done right, every time.
