A couple of years ago "Roger" repaired a tube on my bike while I waited. Nice service, reasonable price. Last year, I called to have a few kiddie bike tubes repaired, he told me he was backed up and he wouldnt be able to get to them for a few months. (So I opted for Park Ave Bikes, where it took 10 minutes) Today, I took in a decrepit old rust bucket in that needed a new tire/tube. If you are a big time tour D France type cyclist, this place, and "Roger" is for you. I do not doubt he is an expert at what he does., I am an occassional summer cyclist. While I was there he called me "brainless", and a few other choice names. I was pretty shocked-trust me, I had no "attitude", and his abuse seemed to come out of the blue. I actually said almost nothing to him (If I knew anything about bikes I wouldnt be taking it to him to change a simple tube) He was so abusive and disagreeable it was almost comical. Does he hate women? (as I was leaving he yelled, "You aint too bright are you..."). Again this was out of the blue, not in response to anything I said or did. He just seemed to be intent upon hurling invectives in my direction just to vent. I was also interested in purchasing a used bike for my daughter, and when I asked him if he sold used bikes (I saw several around the shop) he snapped, "You really are brainless, do you see any used bikes?" Um, well, yes I do. Including a yellow Schwinn 10 speed that bore a remarkable resemblance to one that was stolen from my daughter a couple of years ago.....Im not saying it WAS the same bike but.... Rochester is filled with bike repair/retail stores, I will avoid "freewheelersbikes" , and "Roger" like the plague. The man needs counseling. Seriously.

The service was absolutely incredible! I had gone to three different shops looking for a left crank arm specific to my bike. None of them had it, and wanted me to wait becaude they had to order it. So I called 3 other places with no luck (essentially all of the major bike shops on/near ROC). But then I called freewheelers and they had the part! They put it right no problem and charged me a relatively low price. The guys there were really friendly and had a friendly conversation with me while giving me tips on maintenance. Heres the kicker of the whole transaction, when I went to the other bike shops I was BLEEDING DOWN MY LEG and nobody noticed or said anything. I had fallen a few times earlier that day and was not in top top shape from that. When I went to freewheeles they gave me bandages and helped me clean the wounds. Then sent me off with extra bandages because "you know itll happen again, so keep them in your pack." The other Rochester local bike shops are great, but Freewheelers really took care of me better than anywhere else by far. Needless to say I will be a returning customer and they will be my first choice from here on out.

May years back... Called Roger and talked to him about replacing an axle on my rear wheel and building a set of wheels for me with my old hubs and new rims I bought. He said he had the axle in stock and he would build the wheels for me. I took time off from work to drive tho the other side of town to go to his shop. When I got there, he said he didnt have the axle I needed and wasnt going to order anything soon. Then he said he changed his mind and didnt want to build my wheels. I went there to give him my business, he has a small shop and is a one person operation... I could have gone to any of the other shops, but wanted to give him my business. He basicly didnt want it... Ive never been back and would never recommend him.

This is my favorite bike shop in Rochester. Roger has replaced the bottom brackets on two different bikes for me for a reasonable price and did a fantastic job. It was late winter/early spring both times and he was able to fix them within one day so I could bike to work, drop the bike off, and pick it up to go home. However, dont be surprised if this is not possible during the busier summer months. I always have great conversations with Roger during the time I spend at the shop and he has never been unkind or treated me unfairly. In my experience he is actually one of the most congenial bicycle shop owners in the city and the most willing to give advice.

After visiting both Full Moon Vista and Park Ave Bikes and being disappointed at both. Both stores had clerks with limited knowledge of bicycles. Full Moon could only look up answers in a catalog and the guy at Park Ave needed me to explain what a Touring bike was, as if no one had ever asked for one before. Roger was incredibly helpful and I swear my new Fuji Touring 2012 rides smoother and quieter than 95% of all bicycles Ive been on. He actually has passion for cycling and the fact that he reassembles all bikes himself proves this. The store front is small so be sure not to miss it! Wouldnt go anywhere else.

For 35yrs+ Ive been buying bikes from Roger at Freewheelers. I go back about once a year. He knows bikes better than anyone else I know in Rochester. We used to hang at Freewheelers as kids, but the shop is smaller now. Be reasonable - do not expect him to loan you tools, or give away freebies. Time is money. He is selling parts and fixing bikes at the same time. If there is a problem with anything you buy from him, he will fix it. Other reviewers complain they bought the wrong tube from him. Just tell him and he will exchange it. I order bikes for my kids through him, and it is worth the wait.

Extremely unprofessional. I stopped by before and explained the problem with my bike. My bike pedal was broken and rusty, hence hard to get off. He said he would do it. I then walked over with my bike the same day. When he saw it again, he said he had a hernia and could not fix it because of the rust. According to him, the bike is unfixable and needs to be thrown away because of the rusty pedal. I definitely do not recommend him. I think he decides on a whim whether or not he wants to work on your bike and if its too much work for him to do, he just refuses to do it.

This my store. Some of the reviews are very hurtful and do not seem true. I can only say that I was misunderstood and would like to make it up to them. If you check the reviews, the negative ones seem to be describing a totally different person. I have never called anyone brainless. What a shock! In fact I have had three hernias in the past three years and so I am not always able to do certain tasks, but my neighbors and other customers will always step in to help, so if there is a brief delay, that may be why I was misunderstood in that case.
