This store is awesome! The guys are very friendly and knowledgable. The store is clean/organized and has everything you could possibly need for cycling at any age/skill level. If you need a part thats not in the store they can order it quickly and then install it. I moved a few months ago to Newport News and decided to start commuting to work on my bike since I was so close. Im pretty new to bike commuting, it had been a while since Id ridden a bike consistently. The weekend I moved in, I realized my tires had no air in them. Called the shop, and they said I could drop in whenever it was convenient. I showed up and they pumped the tires, no charge. Offered to show me floor pumps so I could do it at home. They didnt try to oversell me something really expensive, just what I needed as a newbie still getting comfortable. I also wanted a rack for grocery shopping, so they showed me what they had and made sure it was compatible with my bike as well as showing me baskets that could go on the rack. They ordered the parts, which came in promptly and they installed the rack (TPK MTX Beam Rack E-Type) free of charge. Jeffrey was great! Now Ive been riding everyday for about 3 months and had my first flat last night (luckily after I got home). I called them up this morning to see if they could fix it, they said come on in. I showed up, wheeled to the back and Mark starting working immediately. He let me watch what he was doing and ask questions so Id know what to do next time. He was quick but also very thorough. He made sure the pressure in my tires was even (explaining how when its hot outside, its better to have the pressure a bit lower), then tightened up the nuts and bolts and had me back me on my way within 10 minutes. Also got me set up with a set of tire levers and an extra tube for next time :) I highly recommend this shop. They even have classes to teach bike maintenance on the third Thursday of the month (I think Ill be attending one soon lol). Thanks guys!

I love Contes! The team at the store is super friendly and very talented. I have been riding less than a year and they have taught me everything I know about the sport. They host various group rides that will help you learn the sport first and then excel and ride with other more experienced riders. I recently had a intermittent manufacture issue with my bike I purchased at Contes that was insanely difficult to diagnose and correct. I must have went into Contes bike shop nearly ten times for them to look at it and every time I went in they were understanding and professional. If you have ever had an issue that never seems to appear when the right person is there to fix it, these things can become quite frustrating. After many attempts I finally had the issue appear in the shop. They diagnosed the problem to the best of their ability and realized ultimately it was a manufacture issue. They ended up replacing the bike with a brand new one, one year newer, at no cost to me! Contes is a local brand, with a staff that actually care about their people more than just customers, but also as friends. I highly recommend them for anything bike related, whether just getting into the sport or an experienced rider.

I do not write reviews...but the service I was provided by Sandy went above and beyond what is normally provided by local bike shops. This is now MY local bike shop and I would not hesitate to refer someone to this shop. Jeff also helped me out big time in clarifying some last second technical questions which I had and it is very much appreciated. My hat, or helmet, is off to the both of these gentlemen. It is great to see true customer service is still around!

old dude was hard to work with, kept interrupting and acted like he had to keep proving that he was smarter than me. He kept trying to get me to apply for a credit card to buy a $1400 bike. Only good thing was the design of the shop

Went in to ask about a beginner tri bike (I dont know anything about bikes) and was told there is no such thing. Very bad customer service. As well, they were not receptive to my children. Hope it was just an off day for them.

Always pleasant, super-helpful. Honest salespeople who want you on a good bike more than they care about the sale. Competent, fast shop work.

Went there looking for a hitch mount bike rack. The salesperson seemed a little pushy but maybe he just wanted to negotiate.
