I actually like Walmart stores, but the Riverhead Walmart is not the best. Inventory control is this stores worst problem. When they run out of something, you sometimes dont see it again for months. Ive mentioned it to management -- and they acknowledge the problem -- but the problem never gets fixed. Im also really surprised at how expensive things are here on Long Island. Much more expensive than other place in the tri-state area. By the way, why exactly is that? Anyway, I cant believe that Long Island doesnt have a Walmart Superstore (with reasonably priced products). Some people just dont get it. People have apparently protested against Walmart, yet Long Island seems to have an overpriced 7/11 every few miles or so. People dont realize that stores like Walmart have deep pockets. If you need to return something, they take it back. Sometimes without a box or receipt. Try doing that at a Mom and Pop store. They cant afford to do this. And when Mom and Pop give you a refund, its usually a store credit. Not a full refund. In other areas, I often find two or more Walmart Superstores in most towns. No one is hurt by this. Walmart employs a lot of people. And prices are better than anywhere else. Not even Target can compete with Walmart. And places like Riverheads PC Richards, for example, will guarantee to beat their competitor prices, but what they dont tell you is that you have to come in with a competitor price to get the deal. For example, I wanted to buy a refrigerator at Home Depot, but they didnt have it in stock. So I went over to PC Richards and their price for the same exact refrigerator was $100 more. When I said I could buy it at Home Depot for $100 less, they matched the price. But if I hadnt done my homework -- or done any comparison shopping -- I would have been charged $100 more. Thats no way to run a business. Its borderline price gauging. But you never have this problem at Walmart. The price is the price. No con games. No BS. Anyway, I wish we had a decent Walmart in Riverhead. Walmart says a Superstore will be opening within 5 years at the Tanger Outlet, but 5 years is a long time away. In the meantime, Target is a nicer place to shop. Bottom line, the Riverhead Walmart gets three stars because its just "OK." In short, I really wish Riverheads Walmart was a larger, more modern Superstore.
