The draws to this place - AMBIENCE 5 STARS + The design / decor is SUPER CUTE +: It is probably the coziest yet freshest feeling place on St Marks Place. Warm wood paneling in raw texture, concrete floors, clean white counters, clear glass walls for feeling of fresh openness, outdoor seating, recessed lighting that feels like sunlight beaming down, little fake neon green plots of grass.. surreal like being on a tv set! but sophisticated and in good taste. Seriously, you would never think you were in a sublevel / basement venue. Plus its so packed and lively. + Service is super friendly. A little bit of a wait, went at 12:30am on Friday night, but totally worth it. + The chocolate green tea lava cake is Really Quite Nice. Has your chocolate cake ever oozed green tea ganache (note: instead of the usual chocolate ooze)? Unique! Its their #1 menu item and when the host told me that I was like.. yeah yeah whatever, but it is true! yum. $8.75 is not bad for unique gourmet dessert in awesome ambience on St Marks Place open late. (the only other place I go to for desserts is the small super cute white-minimalit-modern-curved-wall-interior Japanese dessert place on 49th & 9th, so it is a pleasure to see this DOWNTOWN and accessible) + They have WIFI!! Did you just win my heart? - Maybe I got the wrong flavor combo: 1 scoop green tea ice cream with 1 scoop ovaltine. The green tea was melting on its own and the ovaltine was hard and the two consistencies at different melting speeds (the ovaltine just did not melt) was a bit weird to me. I think I am used to my green tea ice cream being a little bit more potent in flavor.. and colder. I couldnt sit back and enjoy.. i was scrambling to eat but it was like watching the green wicked witch of the west from Wizard of Oz... Im MELTING I"M MELTING AHHHH. and i was like noooo please dont melt into soup. :/ Perhaps next time I will try coconut or condensed milk. But very decent prices for late night dessert hot spot: 1 scoop = $3, 2 scoops = $5.50, 3 scoops $7.50. not bad!!!

Food: - Molten green tea lava cake - my default go-to dessert here - yummy. The cake itself is very sweet, and really nice and gooey on the inside with green tea goo too. It comes with a scoop with very yummy green tea ice cream - the more bitter kind; which helps balance out the sweetness of the cake. - Black forest cake with Pistachio - thick fudgey cake cube coated with pistacio crumbs, goes very well with the pistachio ice cream (which is default in the sit-down place, but optional in the take-away one) - In fact the pistachio ice cream stands pretty well on its own - its very flavorful and nutty, not that fake green color - never knew I liked pistachio ice cream until I had this one - cream puff thing with the caramelized banana - is pretty good - the cream puff was very flaky and crunchy still and tasted fresh. They used fresh banana. The white chocolate honeycomb thing was a bit too sweet, but overall it was good dish. It came with ice cream which tasted like regular vanilla. The dish wasnt super-sweet overall like some of the other ones. - I tried the eskimo pie and one that looked like pot of dirt, was only okay with them. - Matcha milk cream bun - They were being really weird and wouldnt let us have it in-store and we had to take it to go after we got our check. It came in extremely large cardboard packaging that was pretty, but extremely wasteful for just 1 bun. The bun overall was pretty good tasting, even though I ate it the next day. It was fairly soft and fluffy and had a nice cream. It didnt taste too oily. Overall it was good, but not worth $6 (the packaging was probably most of the cost) so I wouldnt get it again. Ambiance: - The main one gets very crowded, always. They have several large tables that you might share with other people. - There is also a smaller shop a few doors down, with the same menu, and they have seating for almost the same number of people.

R. is in the SPOT...SPOT DESSERT BAR that is. asian-inspired desserts. rich sweet flavors. St. Marks oasis for the "sweet life." space is medium/ish, brightly lit, pretty clean. modern decor and feel. simple aesthetic. the desserts for dine-in or takeout. i prefer takeout as the line can get crazy as the weather gets warmer... dessert musts: Chocolate Green Tea Lava Cake. Warmed dark chocolate cake filled with a well of green tea ganache + a scoop of green tea ice cream on the side. Rich dessert. Shareable. The contrast between the cake, ganache, and ice cream is smooth and each balances the other well. The Harvest: Served too look as if it were a tiny potted plant (in restaurant). I got it to go, so it was served in a plastic container. Its cheese cake, meringue, strawberries, etc. topped with cookie and cocoa crumbles. Its delicious. and shareable as well. Yuzu Eskimo: IF you dont like Yuzu/extremely citrusy dessert...do not order. Basically its a deconstructed ice cream bar with chocolate ganache & strawberry slices. Banana Chouff: Banana-y dessert. Banana crulee. Banana ice cream. Crunchy pastry puffs. Caramel. Very sweet. Shareable. Theres also a rainbow of variety of macarons. & there are beer & wine options. Service is friendly-ish. Seriously grab n go. There are plenty ofgreat public spaces in the area to sit outside and enjoy these desserts. PRO TIP: theres a smaller version of this dessert spot just a few storefront down on the same side of St. Marks if you walk towards 3rd Ave. no booze. and a condensed menu. worth a look if the wait is long at this location and you cant do takeout. drops mic cuz im sugar high!

Given the concept and signature green tea desserts, this dessert spot in St. Marks Place is something I thought Id really, really like. I love cozy dessert hangouts and green tea anything, so when I saw the photos of the chocolate green tea lava cake and green tearamisu, I knew I had to come here. And thats what I did - dragged myself through the wind and snow on the first official day of spring to Spot Dessert. I first ended up at Spot Dessert Shoppe and serendipitously ended up getting a free macaron for Macaron Day, but Spot Dessert Bar is about six doors down. I ended up at the bar and after much agonizing between the lava cake and tearamisu, chose the chocolate green tea lava cake. They have 8 other dessert tapas, like Thai tea crème brûlée. They also offer cupcakes in flavors like green tea and Vietnamese coffee, macarons, and cookies. Of course, they also have hot and cold drinks like matcha latte and bubble tea. The chocolate green tea lava cake looked pretty and consisted of a warm dark chocolate cake with green tea ganache, a ball of green tea ice cream sitting on top of walnut soil, and sprinkled with green tea powder. The green tea ice cream was delicious. I wish I just got green tea ice cream honestly. The chocolate lava cake was a little decadent but I think Im starting to grow out of rich desserts. If youre in the area and are in the mood for something sweet, its worth a try. If Im back in East Village, I wouldnt mind coming back to try the green tearamisu. Little pricey, all dessert tapas are $9.15. But its a cute and intimate spot to hang out with loved ones and friends.
