The extraordinary thing about this place is how beautiful their desserts and pastries look. They are exquisite, I give them that. Not a big dessert person but I do enjoy cakes immensely and apparently so does the rest of San Diego. This place gets super packed at night. The wait is absurdly long on the weekends. I came here with a group of friends and we waited an hour or more in line. Theres also not a lot of seating for large parties, so we ended up having to cram into a booth. 10 people in one booth was very intimate. They have a variety of cakes and pastries to try as well as beverages. Our group decided to share 4 different slices of cake. The cake slices are pretty big. If youre not that big into desserts, one slice is more than enough for 2 people. I also got a mocha on the side because coffee is good any hour of the day! CAKES: We got the Banana creme pie, Black Velvet Cake, Chocolate Dulce de Leche, and Ivoire Royale. Our group really enjoyed the Ivoire Royale but my personal favorite was the Banana Creme pie. The banana creme was light and had a delightful banana flavor that wasnt artificial. The Ivoire Royale was really good though, I loved the fruits in the cake. The Chocolate Dulce de Leche was just too much. It was too rich, too chocolatey, and too dense of a cake. I LOVEEEE chocolate cake but I thought that cake was over the top. The black velvet was good, it was simple. Overall, it was a little too sweet for my liking. I really enjoyed my Mocha. It served as a nice contrasting flavor to the cake. They use bittersweet chocolate, so the drink wasnt too sweet. I dont know if I would come back again but its a cute dessert shop.

Located in Balboa Park, this one of a kind dessert parlor is far beyond extraordinary. I went for a wonderful night out in old downtown San Diego. Everything in this sit down bakery looked decadent and superb. From golden edible leaved strawberry tarts to creme brûlée custards, a favorite could be chosen from the wide variated dessert fare. “It was a chocolate lovers haven and a fruit seekers paradise.” The atmosphere mirrored one of a cafe coffee shop; customers joined at tables sipping lattes with the most divine works of art splattered across the realm of the room. Each table lined with little bitty tea light candles, just enough luminescence to capture your acquaintance under the starry night sky. Now the desserts told a story of their own. The chocolate desserts I was told were extremely rich by my peers. I however, can divulge all the true secrets behind the beauty of the passion fruit cake shown in my photo posted. Let me start with the sauce, wow where do I begin. It was a kiwi and raspberry and mango fiasco. Nothing like I have ever tasted before! The cake portion was very synonymous to that of an angel food cake; light fluffy moist creamy goodness. Overall, while each dish is a bit pricey (around $9-15), each morsel was worth every penny and the portion size was large enough to share with a huge party of friends.

Oh, God knows Ive tried. And boy, have I really tried. But as big as the "fad" of extraordinary desserts is, I cant help but think that their desserts are nothing but ordinary. Ordinarily horrible, too. As a San Diego native, I know theres better desserts out there. Maybe not as aesthetically pleasing or ornately decorated with flowers, but their desserts taste just like that: flowers. Rose water must be their staple, and so their most decedent deserts taste like something your grandma had left in her freezer and forgotten about for much too long. In its prime, this place was the cutest date place you could stumble upon with romance flowering from its chocolaty menu. Now, its an overpriced, overcrowded "show" with horrible and tasteless desserts. (And trust me, Ive tasted more than my share of their menu.) There are much better finds than this. Dont fall into the hype and think youll have something extraordinary, because quite frankly, youre just ordinary for going to extraordinary.

I enjoy going to ED when I have the time, but up front, a few warnings: the set up is not well designed (you have to wait in line to choose your dessert and the case with most of the desserts is on the wrong side so you have to step out of line and look for whats available and then get back in line - most people know the drill so no one objects when you get back in line in your original spot), the place is small, it takes a fair amount of time to get your order (were talking about a slice of cake here, not brain surgery), and it is a little pricey. All that said, there is a reason that the place gets packed on a regular basis. The desserts are really good (although I tend to stay away from the chocolate desserts because they are so heavy on the frosting and ganache, but maybe thats what youre into) and it is all very pretty to look at. Its almost a shame to eat the desserts since they look so good. If youre interested, go on a week night when theyre not so busy.

Best desserts in San Diego, hands down. And the best tea options. The desserts here cost mostly upward of 8$ because they are more like a meal. Ask for the ice cream pairing with most of the desserts. The coffee is very good although typically not very hot. I like it more warm, but again a personal choice. Make sure you atleast try one of the teas, my favorite is the grapefruit green. The desserts keep changing but make sure you get one based of chocolate. Gets pretty crowded on the weekends but they are open till midnight. So expect a lot of party crowd on Saturday nights. We typically go in the evening where there is a small wait. I would not recommend it for groups more than 8 though, the place has a lot of seating but not a lot of big tables. It is more for a cozy romantic date. They literally put flower petals in all of the deserts as decoration. For two people, take on of those big desserts and something smaller, a tea to share and you will not regret it.

This is my 3rd time here. I have to say, there is no real competition for this place and that is why they can pull the crap they do. Its Valentines Day...a day I suspect would be a HUGE day for them.. they have instructions for you to know what you want prior to getting on the line. However, there is no menu available and you have to wait 30 min to an hour to get to the register just to see what they have and then be pushed to make a decision. Once you get there, the checker is rude when you ask which dessert is which because they dont have it listed. Im so upset that the marketing team for this restaurant knows that if a consumer waits for 45 min on a line...they wont care what they order, just because they waited in line soooo long. $20 spent on 2 coffees and a scone and all we wanted was a piece of cheesecake. We would have left if we would have known they werent selling that
