Service engine soon light problem came up and I wanted to react fast. I took my BMW 2006 325i to Auto Zone, Ithaca, NY and they diagnosed the problem (misfire, ignition coil 4 to be replaced). One of the guys was nice enough to recommend Ridge Road Imports in Lansing to me, claiming that their mechanic Shawn is the best in the area for European cars. Even though it was a long drive for me I took the car there right away and Mr. Ray did the diagnostic again for free, which was really nice of him. The diagnosis was the same so I talked to Shawn briefly and he recommended changing all the spark plugs and 1 ignition coil and quoted me $192.50 (labor and tax included), which sounded reasonable to me so he scheduled me to come back within 2 days, once the parts he needs to order are in. When I returned, they did the job within 40 minutes or so (why they charge 1.5 hours for changing these minor parts is beyond me) and I was not offered an answer. I was called to settle the bill and it came down to over 350$, and I almost fainted. I tried to get explanations for the difference between the estimate and this bill, but they kept repeating that it was the amount I owed them and Elliot threatened to call the police. Of course, I was going to settle the bill, but I only wanted the explanations. When I saw the receipt, one of the items was diagnostics (which was not done on the day of service again) so they deducted it after some arguing. The only thing Mr. Elliot was interested in was getting the money. I ended up paying $350 minus diagnostic (unperformed service anyway), which boiled down to 312$. I do not know why Shawn made that mistake in the difference of almost 160$, he kept apologizing, but I was the one who had to pay for it. I feel that I was overcharged for the sparkplugs (they charged me almost 25$ each) and they refused to provide the original bill from the company they ordered parts from. Coincidentally, after I insisted to talk to Ray on the phone, the line was cut off when I asked this question. I lost most of my day going to Lansing and back, had a frustrating experience - my only fault was that I did not ask for the estimate in writing (for 192.50$). For 350$, I would not go back in the middle of nowhere!!! On the bright side, the car runs great and I am happy I did it, but the choice of the place was ghastly. My bad! Be careful when going to Rigde Road Imports. As they say: what goes round, comes round, so I am sure the good intention to give them a try will pay off eventually.

I work primarily with Ridge Road for my car purchasing and servicing needs. My car buying experience was very personalized, and although their prices are not rock bottom, they can be justified because of their niche; they are a nice and quality used car dealer, not a shady "buyer beware" kind of dealer. This, however, is only a small part of why Im a fan. Its their service center. Its a small facility, but very well run. Their lead mechanic Shawn is very knowledgeable, has never tried to push repairs that were unneeded, and has always been upfront about costs, priorities of repairs, and has always given advice about how best to manage the health of my vehicle. This is the first mechanic I have experienced who I felt like knew my car with all its quirks. That said, like the dealer, Shawn is very much a "fix it right" type of mechanic; he uses quality parts, and although at times he is willing to lower his high standard of repair to match a budget, like the dealership he primarily works in, and strives for, quality. If this is what you are looking for, they have my recommendation!

Their mechanics are incompetent at best and most likely simply lying frauds. Do not go there for repairs. You will be told of a problem that you most likely do not have, will be charged for unnecessary repairs and at the end will be told to go to the dealer. This happened to me with check engine light on my Subaru. They charged me for an oxygen sensor. 1 week later check engine light came back. They told me it is the 2nd oxygen sensor and charged me for replacing it. 1 week later the light came back on. Running out of oxygen sensors to change, they told me it was just dirt and charged me $45 for diagnosis. 1 week later the light came back on. This time, knowing that I will not pay them again, they told me to take my car to the dealer since they can do nothing. Thus, all of the wasted time and close to $600 in oxygen sensors repairs was unnecessary. I am sure they will try to reply with some excuse that makes them look honest. Do not believe them. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Ravin on Ridge Road Imports and Ray Tuhro, Owner/Operator. I have bought my last four imports from Ridge Road Imports in Lansing. Ray Tuhro is an mature, honest, and above the 90th percentile as pre-owned car dealerships go. His inventory is always solid with an excellent selection of imports to consider. The 2nd vehicle we purchased from Ray was a Subaru Legacy Wagon. We drove the car to 226,000 miles, and as with all four vehicles purchased from RRI all warantees for repairs were honored. My most recent purchase a 2004 BMW 325 xi is an incredible car, and I am very pleased with its performance, durability and longevity. Ray can be trusted. His prices are fair, and his precious family have lived in the community for over 35 years. My wife and I highly recommend Ridge Road Imports to used car buyers looking for a reputable dealership with integrity, affable humanity, and fairly priced vehicle purchases. You Rock Ray and Ridge Road Imports!!! Paul and Lori Remski, Homer, New York

I purchased a car from Ray at Ridge Road Imports. I was told the car had never been in an accident. After owning it for 2-3 years, it developed a large rust spot, which continued to grow and when I took it to Toyota to have it fixed under warranty for body rust thru, they discovered it had been in an accident and repaired incorrectly. Ray refused to compensate me, and I was told I could trade in it at a great loss towards another more expensive car on his lot, or try to sell it to some other unsuspecting person. It now had a huge hole in the rear fender, door panel and trunk. I have been unable to stop it. Buyer beware, if you arent careful, your investment could be worth nothing. I will never buy another car from him as he is certainly not honest and doesnt stand behind what he sells.

Ray and Elliott took great care of me at Ridge Road Imports. I have bought several cars from ray over the years and each time I have been impressed with his honest, no-nonsense approach to sales and service. It is no surprise that this company is still in business after so many years. Any local person who wants a high quality used vehicle at a reasonable price knows to take a ride over to Ridge Road. Integrity, flexibility, and quality....that s what you expect from Ray and Elliot. Top shelf.
