Recently paid $950 for an exhaust manifold replacement. There are oxygen sensors in that system. The engine light was never lit before bringing the car to them. Immediately after picking up the car an oxygen sensor engine code appeared and lit up the check engine light. They absolutely refused to fix the issue they caused. They charged me an additionally $190 just to investigate the issue they caused. Anyone here who gives this garage a good review is being duped. I have the knowledge and skills to do my own repairs and almost always do so. I chose to use them once for a job that needed a vehicle lift (which I do not own) and now I regret it. If youre so delighted with Shadetree its because youre not knowledgable enough to realize youre being ripped off. Of course they treat customers well when they will simply pay whatever bill they are told to pay. They never found the reason for the engine light being lit. So they cant even say if its their fault or not. I now have to pay another shop to diagnose the issue properly so my vehicle will run properly.

We have been loyal customers of Shadetree Automotive for over 5 years and have never had a less than stellar experience. Wed gone to quite a few local mechanics for previous car repairs but after we found Shadetree, we never looked back. Not only does John and the team use common sense when they repair a vehicle, fixing what needs to be fixed and replacing parts only when necessary, they do not gouge their customers on labor or parts. From our experience owning various vehicles over the last 10 years, Shadetree Automotive is a unique entity in auto sales and repair. They stand behind the cars they sell and the work they do. No matter what kind of vehicle you have, foreign or domestic, you wont regret taking your business up the hill. Everyone is really nice and they even work on Saturday mornings! Shadetree cares about their customers and more importantly they treat us like they appreciate the opportunity to work on our cars each and every time. They wont do you wrong. 5 stars all day.

If you care about your car at all, Do Not take it here!!!!!! I have never written a review for anything before but I wish someone would have warned me about them before I spent literally most of my savings on poorly done repairs by them. I needed a new engine and they got the wrong one, charged me extra and then the head gasket broke 2 days later and even though I had a warrantee they charged me to fix their mistakes knowing I had no choice. Then I called every day for a week asking them for updates and begging them to call me before they did any more work and they just wet ahead and did it anyway leaving me with a bill close to $6000. No joke. My new mechanic has pointed out how lazy they were and I am still fixing problems caused by Shadetree. Luckily I was not hurt all the times my car broke down and I has to bring it back to them. So I just want to give a warning to people who really depend on their car and dont have thousands to spend on shoddy repairs. Please be careful!!

Ill cut right to the chase - this shop performed work WITHOUT being authorized to do so. We brought our vehicle in and specifically asked for a quote/estimate - after a lengthy phone call describing all that was wrong with it, the conversation ended with "Ill call you Monday with numbers". Monday I got a call and learned that $770 in parts and labor had already been done. Then Tuesday they called and said there was another $1200 job that needed to be done before it could be driven. We paid the $770 (after being threatened with small claims court) & drove our vehicle away. Shade Tree = SHADY! A horrible experience with a complete fraud - who says "estimates dont mean anything" when we tried to make the point that he got himself this deep without our permission. Who does this two weeks before Christmas? Shade Tree.

My wife and I have been bringing our old used Volvos to Shadetree for over a decade. My wife has purchased two or three cars from Shadetree. Overall they have a good track record of keeping our old cars going. My experience with them has been positive overall, and they have always treated me fairly. My 1991 740 sedan and my wifes 240 wagon, both with 300k miles on them, both have tall large stacks of Shadetree service receipts going back to 2007, so I have done alot of business with them.

Do not go to Shade Tree if you care about your care. I took my car there. The car was not starting. John changed the exhust and battary and charged my 900 dollars. But the car was not starting again. I towed the car and took it to someone in Lansing. The guy removed the alarm system and solved the problem. John at Shade Tree just chose to change things that allowed him to make the most money. He did not care about fixing the car. It was a terrible experience.

Very bad experience. They threatened me that they would not give me my car keys when I started to negotiate the price with them. They charged me more than $1500 and did not fix the problem. I discovered that they changed parts that are still in good shape just to maximize their profit. Do not go their if you care about your money and car.

Shadetree auto is the best and most reliable place I ever used for car repairs. We have been loyal customers for eight years and plan on being so for as long as Jon owns the place. What I love the best is that they use common sense when trying to repair things and not just fix it blindly independent of whether the cost justifies the work.

Worst experience ever. Those guys perform work without authorization. They changed things that do not need to be changed just to make money!

Shade Tree Auto does great work on my used Volvo. They are so friendly and ethical, and I would recommend them to anyone.
