The shop is very tiny (about 100 square feet), but the climbing instruction is excellent. There is no classroom work here - everything is done on the rock, ice, or snow. The guides are superb - friendly, patient, and well qualified. (Yes, you should tip them. They are responsible for your safety and risk their lives to set ropes.) There are numerous rock climbing routes for all skill levels just a few minutes from the school. Some ice-climbing sites are about an hour ride from the school. The classes include rental of technical equipment. The little bistro next door is great for breakfast and lunch. Try the German restaurant across the street for dinner.

They pack a surprising amount of climbing gear into the tiny space. For most gear of course youre better off shopping at Rock & Snow in New Paltz, but if you realize on your way to the crag that someone forgot an ATC or something, the EMS will save you a big detour! Also the guides are excellent. (This is not a regular EMS retail location, its just the guide office with a very small climbing shop.)

Excellent service and knowledge of trails / terrain. I walked in blind and the EMS rep Eric pointed me in the right direction. He is full of great information. I cant wait till spring to bring my kids for the repelling classes.
